Making Pinecone Syrup (Mugolio) Part 2
Просмотров 312 месяца назад
In part 1 I collected green pinecones from my scot's pine tree and some wild single-leaf pinyon pines. They were washed, some I chopped up (I recommend chopping them up!), and put in a jar with a simple syrup made from equal parts sugar and water. The first week or so I'd frequently burp the jars since it ferments a lot at first, then I left them alone in a dark spot in the kitchen. Leaving the...

Does this apply to ethical farms doing taxidermy with the same colors? Or just cruel farms?
@@Michael_afton_obsessed This applies to all fur farms, or in the very least all fur farms that sell in the fur market (usually auctions, often times world-wide). If you are buying foxes that are taxidermy quality one of two things is probably happening. One is your buy from a smaller farm that specializes in solid things for taxidermy, which I have seen two farms do this, one very ethical and one very unethical. Otherwise I've seen this done with breeder animals. The skinning required for a taxidermy quality pelt is more intense/involved than what any fur farm that sells pelts for garments would bother with (garment skinning almost always omits the groin and legs, and won't turn out faces). If you're buying directly from a farm, or directly from somebody who goes to farms and skins out the animals for taxidermy you'll need to ask or otherwise investigate about the conditions of that specific farm.
This is why im finna steal my dad’s taxidermy’s he has in the garage.
They have the skull mask’s at Walmart too-! They also have this really pretty grey wolf fur suit head:P (its not an actual fur suit head but you get it)

@@EmeraldMothz I got him from The Corner Shoppe in Austin, TX. This type of raccoon mount is VERY common though so you can find similar looking ones at a variety of places =) Try Google searching "raccoon taxidermy peanut butter jar" and I'll bet you can find one for sale (they even had 2 of them out at the store I bought him from, lol).

As you say. The only foxes "in the process of domestication" are the Russian foxes of Akademgorodok. But we don't know how long it will take to have domesticated foxes "like dogs". I live in France and it is illegal to have a fox if you have not passed "certification" (refuge, zoo, and so on). I think it's very good. People already have difficulty taking good care of their dogs, their cats or their goldfish...
Idk this just popped up in my head but can you make a fur suit out of taxonomy like is it possible?
@@Scoobydoo122-y9h I assume you mean out of a taxidermy mount? It could be done, but it wouldn't be a good idea at all. I actually made a video about this but I'm not sure if I uploaded it here or just on my TikTok, lol. There's a taxidermist who made a couple of costume pieces using taxidermy techniques that you could look up: Zhon Creations (their work on these is on DeviantArt). You would have to make something new if you wanted it to be wearable, not just core out an existing taxidermy mount, and it would be uncomfortable and hot and expensive. Overall a better route to go would be a taxidermy style headdress, but otherwise it's not worth doing.
Ok idk it just popped up in my head lol
Wake up ma spirit Halloween is selling fursuit bases

This is so cute omg
I got a fox fursuit mask yesterday, it creeps everyone out, but it's so ugly I like it XD
It’s impressive how she got them to stand still for that long
WOAAA I RLLY LIKE IT THOU!!
Spirituality is another reason people have soft mounts. Some folks need to connect with the indigenous culture and learn something. I love your collection
And I also have a question.. I don’t wanna seem weird to my parents, (and my mom doesn’t like taxidermy), but I’ve been wanting some fox tails for room decor for a while.. I’m trying to turn my room into kind of a forest-theme. I bought some fake plants to put up, and I have a fake cherry blossom vine that I also haven’t put up yet. I really love the forest, and the fox tail(s) are something that I feel like would complete it. However, I know that Amazon has some pretty bad non-ethically sourced fox tails, and I don’t know where else to get some. Perhaps you know a good online store with faux fur tails? Or even ethically sourced tails, if my mom lets me get one, which she probably won’t lol.
@@Simplebn "Ethically sourced" will depend entirely on what you consider to be ethical. At this point it's hard for me to recommend a seller who is guaranteed not to be selling tails that come from China short of saying to buy directly from hunters/trappers (but then you also need to worry about getting them tanned). There may be some ebay stores or small shops who mainly source locally. If you want to go the faux route look into the furry community =) The Dealer's Den is a good starting point; it's a furry centered auction type website where you can find sellers/makers. You could even DIY a tail using faux fur or make a yarn tail ^-^ I hope this helps!
Woahhh did you draw that?!? 😱 I wish I could draw that well
@@Simplebn It's mostly just traced 😅 I go over the outlines and basic details then add in additional details by hand. It's cheating, but it's what I do for fun not profit or something so not truly harming anyone or anything. Makes good practice when I do free-hand work.
Hey I have a question! I have 2 tails that were purchased from Amazon way back before I knew this kind of stuff, I would like help on knowing if it’s cruel or anything! So description of the first tail: silver fox tail with the regular coloring and yellow-ish white tip, not blue so they didn’t try to hide anything? It is very plump and fluffy, and when I dig in the fur I find what is most likely leather, very high quality too it seems somehow too lol. Second tail: even bigger and longer than the other one, somewhat plumper. Golden island fox is what it was advertised as, sandy tan-orange color with soft gray tints and a few darker grey stripy looking parts. But weirdly enough when I dig in the fur I find no leather??? If you took your time to read this thank you so! I’m very much in a pickle and I’d like to have the chance to feel less guilty. Just crossing my fingers over here, but i’m prepared for harsh truth. :)
All/Most tails from Amazon are from cruel fur farms since Asia/China has no animal cruelty laws! (By memory)
Imagine losing your tiniest oddity in that room💀
I have a question!1!1! Where would you recommend getting ethically sourced oddities or taxidermy? / And awesome video!
@@BugzTheCoyoye It'll depend on what your definition of "ethical" taxidermy is. Like, do you want things from animals that died naturally? I personally don't know any sources. I used to know one taxidermist who would source from a zoos (which can also vary in ethics) and animal breeders, but I haven't seen them post anything in ages. Making friends with people who could supply you natural death pelts then commissioning a taxidermist would be your best route. Do you think following a "reduce, reuse, recycle" mindset is ethical and prefer to buy second-hand? Thrift stores, antique stores, estate sales, and online groups where other collectors sell off their stuff from time to time are excellent (don't forget online auctions, too! I know there's a weekly Taxidermy Auction account on Instagram and some larger auction sites where people will sell off entire collections that they get from various sources...just be warned some items will be made for the auction itself). Are you okay with animals that are killed for food? Aim for species that people eat, like domestic livestock, deer and other ungulates, fish (which can get tricky), etc. Ask lots of questions before buying and avoid animals like predators unless you know they were eaten or the parts were all used. Are you okay with hunting but not trapping or farming? Buy pelts and ask questions, and ask taxidermists/taxidermy sellers if they know the history. Just wanna avoid fur farming? Only a few species are farmed so either learn how to tell wild from farmed or avoid those species altogether. Tanuki, foxes, and mink are the main ones you'll see on the market, but you may also see polecats and rabbits (usually also raised for their meat). Is it just that you want to avoid supporting certain things like coyote derbies or rattlesnake roundups or duckling/chick culling or hunting animals in areas where their populations are lower? Ask tons of questions before buying or avoid a species altogether that has issues you don't want to support. Overall it's hard for me to recommend a single source. I buy a lot from other collectors or taxidermists, or second hand shops and estate sales, so those are what I know best.
ty for information!!! Very appreciated!!! But since I’m still a minor I can’t really do auctions or like instagrams but I could do Etsy and other reliable sources and also antique stores and estate sales, I really wanna try and be careful where I buy fox pelts or tails tho, cause a couple years ago I bought a fox tail off of Etsy their account has been taken down by now, and the tail was just bad, it stunk, it was shedding, and it was from a fur farm! So from that point I promised myself too be really careful. And it’s also why I asked you, So again Thank you so much for this information!!!
Stop this took me a few seconds to understand and my jaw literally dropped!! this is hilarious!!!
Hi! Are your dogs scared of the taxidermy? Have they ever mistaken it to be real? Also.. do you plan on burying your dogs.. or making them into taxidermy..? (I hope not)
@@Simplebn When my aussie first saw my taxidermy wolves he got upset 'cause he thought it was a giant dog 😂 It's kinda like when dogs see a dog doll, or a really realistic photo. Some react, some don't. I don't know what I'll be doing with my current dogs since my husband said no to another skeleton articulation. I'm thinking probably have their skulls cleaned, hearts preserved as wet specimens, and the rest of them cremated and having a pendant made from some of their cremated ashes.
@@wolfforce58205 woah.. I didn’t know people could do that (preserve their pets’ hearts).! That kinda creeps me out a little tbh.. 😂 And by skeleton articulation, do you mean that you’ve preserved your past dog’s skeletons? It sounds cool but also eerie at the same time. Something about preserving a part (taxidermy or skeleton) of a pet seems off to me, because it’s a pet, so you’ve had a connection with them, but at the same time you want to keep a part of them “alive” in some way.. which I understand. I used to have a guinea pig, I’ve had 2 betta fish, and I currently have a cat. I would probably just save some fur or make a clay paw print of his little paws 🥹.
As a fox, I can confidently say the people in this song are incredibly wrong!! Awesome moves <3

How do u do it ?❤
@@Blitz_InBoots I want to preface my comment by saying the majority of bones in my collection I didn't personally clean. Most of my collection was purchased already-cleaned by someone else, and most of the bones I've found were nature cleaned and sun bleached so if I did choose to clean them I would be risking breaking them. My experience with bone cleaning is mostly limited to bones I purchase that aren't 100% clean (eg. beetle cleaned only). I just soak in warm water with dish soap (blue Dawn dish soap, specifically). I like to set it up in a sunny spot in an old glass fish tank to help heat the water instead of relying on fish tank heaters or other heating methods. I'll usually let it soak for a couple days or as long as a week before changing the water out because I tend to forget about it 😅 I'll repeat that until the bones no longer smell/leech out grease when fully dried (water seems to stay mostly clear when soaking) since I'm not a stickler for 100% perfectly white bones. The greasiest skull I've worked with was my pronghorn which stank and was rather dark colored with grease and this method worked very well. Short of cleaning something like a pig I think most bones can be degreased this way rather than using harsher methods.
