    Can you ask for an increase in stipend if yours is lower than the maximum? With my company they are putting more of the money towards the overtime rate and although the stipend offered is not super low it’s almost $200 less than the max according to the website?

    I have a question about 'auto offer". I have had an Auto offer, and the recruiter says that I can decline the offer when I speak to the facility, but they want me to sign the contract before that happens... is that a thing? Can I REALLY decline it after signing without some sort of consequences like being blackballed or something? I know the contract isn't really binding, but I have heard horror stories...

      If you are not sure if you want the contract then I would not sign the contract. Most the time an auto offer means you to not do a phone interview/get to talk to hospital.

      There are 3 qualifications to qualify for tax free stipends. 1. Maintain tax home 2. Duplicate expenses 3. Distance You haven’t given me enough info. The only requirement I know you likely meet is the distance requirement. I do not know if you have a tax home and I do not know if you are paying fair market value to stay at your friend’s home.

    do agencies even follow these rules

    • @TravelNursesGuide
      @TravelNursesGuide Год назад

      Agencies are not required to pay you the maximum amount. But they should never pay you more than the maximum amount. If they are paying more than the maximum amount you need to make your agency aware and get them to adjust your pay package appropriately.

    • @TravelNursesGuide
      @TravelNursesGuide Год назад

      They are not suppose to pay you more than the maximum amount set by GSA. If your agency offers to pay you more than the maximum ask them To lower the stipend and add that amount to the hourly rate.

      I’m not a tax expert but I believe you are suppose to report it when you file your taxes. I’m not sure the best way to do that tho because most travel nurses are w-2 which means your employer pays half of the FICA taxes but if it’s at the end of the year I’m not sure how that would work. Maybe you have to pay all the FICA taxes. Idk. I would ask your cpa.

      There are 3 requirements to qualify for tax free stipends. One of the requirements is to duplicate expenses. If you are not paying for a place to stay at your contract location then you do not qualify for tax free stipends per the IRS rules. Accept tax advice from recruiters cautiously. Just because an agency will pay you in the form of tax free stipends does not mean you qualify for them.

    Now what if you rent with a friend or family member and pay fair market value. Obviously you need proof of this for your taxes but once your proof is made and you pay your rent, can they pay you back under the table without IRS knowing of this? We want to make the most out of our stipends. For example I know my parents would allow me to stay with them for free so if I paid them fair market value to have that proof for my taxes, can they pay it back to me with no worries of me losing that proof?

    • @TravelNursesGuide
      @TravelNursesGuide 2 года назад

      It you are receiving tax free stipends when you don’t qualify for them that is breaking tax laws. If you get audited by the IRS you will likely be required to pay back taxes and penalties

    What are the rules that would disqualify me from receiving my stipend?

    • @TravelNursesGuide

      There are 3 requirements to qualify. However, if you receive more than 365 days of tax free stipends in a 2 year period within the same metro area then that metro area could be considered your new tax home. Which would then make you not qualify for tax free stipends.

    Let’s say I’m renting a room at my mom’s in Bakersfield, CA, and my assignment is also in CA, in San Jose. I would still need to be duplicating my expenses right? REGARDLESS of me being in the same state. I will be renting a room in San Jose! My plan is to pay the fair market value for a room rental in Bakersfield. And pay about $2500 a month for a room in SJ. Albeit, my stipends are all maxed out in SJ. Would this be enough to demonstrate that I am duplicating my expenses?

    • @TravelNursesGuide
