Thank you! I pulled a bunch of tubes from a junk pile and was afraid to clean them since I was under the impression the labels would just come off. This did the trick!
A wire brush to the pins really helps also
Sounds good to me
Thank you, they are really good sounding tubes
I dig the sound from the Svetlanas
They are great tubes for sure
GOOD tips! I've seen valves like this before!
definitely no good and could harm your amp
@@vacuumtubesandguitars Yep!
Both suck
It could me that sucks also

Keep up the great work! I’m sitting in my audio room now surrounded by Dynaco and Fender tube amplifiers 😊
I think you did comparisons with Amperex and GE, Westinghouse, etcetera
Probably every brand
Love your videos! I am a tube freak, listening to bugle boyz now in Dynaco & Fender amplifiers
Amperex are among the best
Novosibirsk vacuum tubes are something else. Nothing ever comes close to them
It is also interesting to try the tubes EL34II, E34L, EL37, KT77.
It is interesting to try the Svetlana 6П27С 6P27S (EL34) tubes.
It is interesting to compare the Svetlana 6L6GC and 5881/6L6WGC tubes.
I will be comparing these this week in a video
Bro that helped me so much I am fixing my brothers guitar and I’m still pretty new but it was so easy thanks❤
Glad to be of help, I learned the hard way
Marshall ECC 83 sounded more aggressive?
The Fender was brighter also
RCA allowed more bass through, and had less muddled mids. Sovtek was brighter, with more harmonic content.
I do agree
Muting the chug hard really shows how tight they are.Like to hear that.Because being aggressive and light shows the range. Some tubes are mushy but when you really play aggressive the sound completely changes. That is why I like tubes over SState. You can control the destortion by how hard you play.SS always sounds the same, there are no dynamics or feedback that can sing.SS isnt bad if you play Pantera but when play ozzy or Priest it sounds like poop.
Tube amps are the best for sure
The sovtek sounded maybe a little bit brighter. Maybe a little more gain? What's your take on these two tubes? Which one do you like best in V1?
The RCA was smoother, less gain. But I really liked the grit of the Sovtek tall plate
@vacuumtubesandguitars yeah, I think I heard the same thing also, now that you mention it. Thanks for telling me your thoughts on both tubes!
Can you recommend site for buying chinese inexpensive 12az7 6V6 el84. I barely play guitar but got carried away the last five years buying second hand tube amps with worn tube's. I just wanna be able to enjoy them a bit. Thanks for listening

It definitely was
How are you able to grasp the hot tube bare handed?!
The preamp tubes do not get hot in only a few minutes time.
I liked the sound of the Mesa 12ax7 's the best. They sounded like they had a fuller overall sound to them.
A little more gain also. Even tough all 4 were China made, they have a different build
5881!
the old Tung Sol are great
The Russian 12ax7 tube sounded like it had more top end and didn't sound as beefy as the Sylvania tube
Exactly how it sounded in the room
@@vacuumtubesandguitars - Cool!
Only eight views and no comments? Where are you people?
I am not exciting or entertaining enough.
I liked the sound of the CBS 12ax7 tube the best. Probably because that's what my ears are used to hearing. The 12ay7 sounded thin to me
It definitely has more gain
@@vacuumtubesandguitars for sure. Maybe the 12ay7 just sounded thin through my phone
I’ve found that swapping phase-splitter tubes has a noticeable effect also.
This is true. You are correct
Than you very much

JJ's are made in Slovakia, not the Czech Republic
I have some 12ax7 JJ tube boxes that say made in Czech Republic, some are Slovakian and some are even China made
Hello, I have a Triplet 3413 meter similar to yours, but I can't find the specs for measuring tubes [EL34, KT88, KT77, etc.]. Can you help? Thanks in advance.
Sorry I sold it a while back so I have no settings
Good job
Do the shuguang Chinese 12ax7 tubes have a round or a square getter? I couldn't tell a whole lot of difference but I will probably hear the difference after I hook it up to my stereo
Chinese 12AX7 tubes have a square getter 2:15. These are really Chinese tubes.
@@АлександрЕрмаков-ю1э -the 80s square getter ECC 83 tubes were Chinese military spec. I have a few of them. They sound completely different and better than the current Chinese round getter tubes
@@td7426 Such a 12AX7 with an O-getter? i.pinimg.com/564x/9b/5e/ef/9b5eef76482773daae2d820b91c6f324.jpg
@@td7426 i hope you all know the getter does nothing but indicate when it was produced.
@@nasticanasta - yes but I stand by my statement. The 80s Beijing military spec ecc83 tubes were built to a higher standard and sound 10 times better than the current shuguang ecc83 tubes. Do your research
It would be interesting to try the Electro-Harmonix 7025EH tubes. Presumably they combine the high gain of 7025WA and the clear sound of 5751. But it needs to be tested in practice. i.pinimg.com/originals/87/14/3b/87143bf5889d69f832059a62a5242245.jpg
the 5751 tube has a gain of 70% whilst the 12ax7 has a gain of 100%... an 12at7 also has a gain of 70%... 12au7 has a gain of 40%... using a 5751 the amp will sound cleaner on the same settings with a little less gain...
@@raucousrowdy6540 -right on!
You are correct on all of this!
But that was just listening through my phone speaker. Later I will hook it up to my stereo and listen to them
The Sovtek seemed to have more air and gain to me when playing them
@@vacuumtubesandguitars cool. Sovtek 12ax7wa tubes don't seem to be very popular but I've always loved the way they react in all of my amps. They seem to have a neat compression to them that I don't find in other tubes.
@@td7426 They are fantastic low cost tubes!
The sovtek sounded warmer and furrier and seemed to have more gain
Tune the thing! I just got a brand new FFSPS with the maple fretboard and locking tuners, and the pickups are WEAK. Not even close to real Gibson humbuckers. The rest of the guitar is OK, although no match for any of my 5 Gibsons. I've already ordered better pickups to replace the Firefly cheapos.
My arthritic neuropathy hands are the problem. I agree that these are great upgradeable guitars
Maybe it was just me but the Sylvania seemed to have a little more of everything. Not necessary good or bad. In this duo it would come down to what you’re looking for. Personally, I’m rather fine if thyou 50s short plate Sylvanias with square getter. They always get overlooked by the long plate of other brands. Then again I like the early long plates as well. Recently picked up a rare Ates ECC83 with very wide plates. I was shocked out how bold it was. Reminded me of the old Tungsol JTL12ax7 I think it is…just full and dynamic. That tube led me does a rabbit hole and happened a miniwatt Dario la rafuotechnique lol from France. Strange design like a mix between a Tunsgram and Tesla. But my primary amp I use for rolling went down before I could try it. It blew a fuse-just don’t know what caused it to blow yet.
I forgot about the MINIWATT tubes, it has been a long time since I had one. Those short plate Sylvania's are great too.
Sound the same, but maybe a tad louder in output.
I thought the same
@@vacuumtubesandguitars I have a Bugera V55 head and it came with 6L6s, but they blew & I had them changed to 5181 & I found they weren't as loud & broke up sooner, but the overall sound was about the same! The output wattage is a bit lower.
@@DMSProduktions I wonder why the tubes blew? May have been from a bad production batch of tubes
@@vacuumtubesandguitars Umm it was a Mk1 and i think it was from the overheating regulator issue, & it took the fuses and a valve with it! MY particular amp became the Mk2 version, & was improved & revised here, with my 1 being the prototype that was followed by Behringer after that!
The only difference in power tubes I've ever been able to actually hear was the difference between telefunken el34's and others in my marshalls and it was astonishing you can't get the telefunken's any longer wish I would have purchased a hundred back in the day they were louder and crunchy my marshalls really mis them cheers !
It is interesting to compare the 5751 and 7025 tubes.
I am gonna do a RCA 7025 against a Sylvania 5751 soon
I like the overall warmer gutsy sound of the RCA tube better. But I've always been kind of partial to RCA preamp and Power tubes
@@td7426 I am gonna do few 5751 to 12AX7 and 7025's coming next
I've been told that the 5751 were a communications tube for the radio guys soldiers in Vietnam for calling in air strike's
@@davidhutson4257 Ad were the 6681 also, There were some of the bigger Silverface amps that came with 5751.
Is the CK512AX (Raytheon) (Industrial type #6281) listed on your Seco 107/107A flip chart? It has a 0.625 volt .02 amp filament. I have a scan of the Seco 107 flip chart and it's not listed either way. I don't have card for my Hickok Cardmatic KS-15874-L2 as well, Thanks
It is not on mine either
@@vacuumtubesandguitars There is a scan of Industrial vacuum tubes on BAMA, but it isn't listed there either. I have an original copy of the Hickok/Navships USM-118A/B tube data as well, and it's not listed there either. I suppose with the tube data I can make up an adapter and match it up to a 1960s vacuum tube AM car radio. Those all have a B+ of no more than 12vdc. Then use the 1volt setting on my 107B and pad it down with a resistor to .6volts, but that will require some research and experimentation.
I will have to listen again tomorrow through my stereo. But on first listen it seems like the RCA had a bit more treble. Do you use a looper when you make these comparisons or do the different sound characteristics of the tubes make you play a certain way when you do these comparisons? I do appreciate you doing these comparisons!
I have never used a looper, I try to play the same regardless of which tube I use, but occasionally a tube gets me excited, usually when I am using 2 completely different types, like 12at7 against a 12ax7
@@vacuumtubesandguitars I understand completely! Same here. I can hear the differences between the different 12ax7 tubes I have in my DSL 40cr. And I can also feel the compression differences between the different el34 tubes that I've tried. Having said that, I just use the stock preamp tubes in my DSL 40cr because I like the way the amp sounds as it is. If it ain't broke don't fix it is kind of how I look at things. Lol
@@vacuumtubesandguitars I forgot to add that I have only tried a couple of 60s short gray plate RCA 12ax7's in V1. The stock JJ tube sounded the best so I put it back in
@@td7426 JJ tubes are great for new production. For EL34's, the Mullard re-issues and Svetlana's are really good. You can really hear a difference if you have the 60's fat bottle Sylvania's, but they are too expensive these days
While my Seco 107B is the unit I use in the field, It doesn't have a power supply big enough to effectively test a power output vacuum tube larger than a 6V6. The 6L6 and 6550 for example requires higher b+ voltages for effective testing.
If the eye tube in your 107 is the 6AF6/6AD6G and is so faded you can barely see it, they are still available as NOS from a vendor I purchase vacuum tubes from.
The only regret I have with my 107b is it is too "new" (if you can believe that) to test Raytheon Sub-miniature hearing aid vacuum tubes. I have a Hickok WECO KS-15874-L2 which will, but it needs a power supply rebuild, and that is one of many back projects I have here waiting.
@@DandyDon1 I did not about the power supply not being enough for the 6L6 and above. I have a couple 6AF6 on hand. I know the feeling about many back projects!
@@vacuumtubesandguitars With a 6550 I believe the best the 107b can do is basically test it as a diode. I have a Hickok 539B as well which as you may know contains two rather large transformers. One is for the filament voltages and the other is for the B+. When I bought it, I did not know the meter movement was on it's last legs. The meters Hickok used in their early testers were prone to failure from several problems. One of the movement pivots is damaged. The early testers run hot from the heat of the 83 and 5Y3 which causes them to drift after having been powered on for a while. The transformers both have AC leakage from their primaries to the case. So badly now that it's not safe to use the tester. The Seco 107B's amplifier circuit is much more sensitive to shorts than a Hickok which uses a neon lamp for this purpose. etc. etc.
@@vacuumtubesandguitars Here is what Alan Douglas explains in his book on page 81 about the Seco Electronics Tube tester: "While Seco's main business was tube testers, its models are not common. The 107 measures Gm and emission for most tubes, with a magic eye to read leakage. But it's plate voltage sags for higher-power tubes, to as little as 12V for the 6L6, at only 10mA plate current, so its readings are not comparable with those of other testers. It measures gas as a ratio of plate to grid current in the emission test, not the best method. Incidentally my 107 circuitry has only a passing resemblance to the schematic in the manual; evidently there were continual changes."
Not a fair comparison, 12AX7 has a gain factor of 100 while the 5751 has a gain factor of 70. I do find the 5751 are a more "musical" tube. Slightly less gain and less harsh with more smoothness. 5751 is a great tube.
The 6072 doesn't have the hair dryer top end like the 12ax7. I like the 6072.
smooth and sweet!
I didn't hear any difference in sound between these two. Did you?
Sounded the same to me also, surprisingly
No service
Oh my god this is so useful! YOU ROCK
Thank you
