I made a rather brief presentation once about the origins & composants of Electro, and it's continuation towards Italo Disco (from big bands to synthesizers), and later Synthwave, SpaceSynth, Retrowave, etc. Disco + Funk + (some) hiphop => gave birth to Electro. "Electro is a musical subgenre integrated into the "Electronics" family and is born from the genres of DISCO (Electro-Boogie), FUNK (Electro-Funk), and Kraftwerk's Electro-pop." What's ironic is that Italo-Disco, as a sub-genre, which arrived later in Europe, after the trend passed in the USA, influenced most of the subsequent movements in electronic music even decades after. Between 1970’s and 1980’s, bands associated with FUNK and HIPHOP have been scrapping the bands with copper instruments, Replacement by synthesizers, until using Vocoder also: Examples like: “Atomic Dog” - George Clinton (Electro-Funk= 1980s) & “What’s My Name” - Snoop Dogg & Dr. Dre en 1993 (G-Funk = 1990’s)... Refined Synths; Djs in continuous search for sound improvements: "Nu-Electro" & "Detroit Techno" (with the "Funky Breaks" & "Big Beat" sub-genres). As a Cultural Phenomenon: We are witnessing in actuality (2010-2020) a resurgence since 2008-2009, of the passion for synthesizers and music considered as Eighties / 80's all over the world.

I love Italo Disco and Space Synth. Best genre ever. Italo Dance, Euro Dance are great too but I listen more to Italo Disco. I just love the sound of analog synthesizers, Jupiter 8, Korg PolySix, Roland Juno 60, Linndrum LM2, Simmons SDS, and especially the Elka Synthex! I produce Italo Disco too currently I'm going dawless. I have recently got myself a MC-500 sequencer. I already have a few vintage synths, a reel to reel recorder, an analog 32 channel mixer and the best part is Behringer is cloning all these iconic synths from the 80s/70s. I started to listen to Italo Disco since I was a kid, in my city it was very popular among the unlicensed radio stations. I just love it how a simple 2 octave bassline, and a simple drum pattern in combination with some chords and a symmetric melody can sound so damn beautiful. In the US people have Synthwave, TBH I dislike Synthwave a lot since most producers have no idea what they're doing it sounds more like EDM than anything 80s, thats not 80s music. If anyone would talk about 80s music from the US I would immediately think about High NRG, Freestyle and Latin Disco (done mainly by Hispanics), too bad these Synthwave producers don't replicate this sound. Thats what I love about New Italo Disco, it's still the same as the old in a way, maybe it sounds too digital since they don't use a reel to reel recorder, or analog hardware instruments. I have nothing against that I've done some tracks with VSTi's of Arturia.
