    Hello from San Diego! We installed Antique Black Limestone coping around our pool. We have noticed that when wet it's the beautiful black color we wanted. However, when dry, it's a chalky, charcoal grey color. Can you recommend a color enhancer sealer brand to assist in getting the dry color deeper. We are not looking for a "wet look". We only want the color to be deeper and/or darker. Thank you!

    A question: We're gut reno-ing our kitchen (well, a GC and his team is), and have ordered matte acrylic cabinets. Quite modern. My wife and I both love Carrara marble and are torn between honed and polished. Which do you think works better with a modern matte look? Wife thinks honed is more of a match to the matte. I think it would be nice to have the countertops really pop, with polished. I know it's all about personal preference, but can you make a suggestion to help break the tie?

    • @santabarbarastonemasters2025
      @santabarbarastonemasters2025 Год назад

      Apologies for the delayed response! Carrera marble is indeed beautiful, and you are right- it comes down to preference regarding the sheen of the stone. Rather than break the tie- how about I offer this: go in between sheens. Honed means “little to no reflectivity” and polished is often shiny- like a mirror. However, you can do a light in-between sheen that gives a touch of reflectivity but isn’t “Las Vegas” shiny and it pairs well with almost any design. Keep in mind, Carrera marble is a soft, calcium-based stone and will etch very easily. If you want to keep your new marble etch and stain-free, it will take a lot of preventative care (wine spill or squirt of lemon juice will etch it in seconds) and ongoing maintenance which can get expensive. You might consider investing in TuffSkin. The low-sheen option of TuffSkin would mimic my suggested shine choice and it will protect the stone with a 10-year warranty. There are TuffSkin dealers all over the States- look one up if you want to minimize the cost of maintenance over time. Hope this help!

    Looking to repair a chipped flagstone. Any videos on that?

    • @santabarbarastonemasters2025
      @santabarbarastonemasters2025 2 года назад

      Unfortunately, we still have yet to make a video of that sort. But here is some information that might help! Flagstone is notorious for chipping and spalling. Flagstone is made up of sand, so water, the elements, and the weather can cause it to break down over time. You cannot fix the chipping, but you can stop it from continuing, or at least stall it. Dry Treat’s 40 SK is a densifying sealer that penetrates deep into the pores of the stone and hardens it, making it stronger and helping it last longer. Hope this helps!

    How do you find out what kind of countertop you have? I know it’s some kind of stone. Not sure is it cultured marble, marble, or porcelain. All I know is my kids use Lysol whips and the shine is gone. I have tried everything.

    • @santabarbarastonemasters2025
      @santabarbarastonemasters2025 2 года назад

      If it’s unknown, take some good quality photos and find a good tile store or natural stone supply yard- walk in and ask the experts- they likely can give you an idea. If pre-saturated wipes remove the shine- that indicates a softer stone such as marble. With denser stones such as granite or cultured stones such as quartzite, that would not happen.

    What a good sealer that's not slippery?

    • @santabarbarastonemasters2025
      @santabarbarastonemasters2025 3 года назад

      How to choose a sealer depends on several factors, and we would need more information to give a specific answer. What is the aesthetic you are looking for? What type of stone do you have? What is the environment the stone is in? (Inside? Outside?) In the kitchen or bathroom (water environment) or in the living room? Sealers that are “slippery” are generally topical. Proper application methods can mitigate the slip coefficient, but you need to ensure you are using the correct sealer on the right floor type. Impregnating sealers penetrate the stone and do not change the slip coefficient. However, this type of sealer is not always the best choice. What is your project? If you give a little more information we will try to help!

    I had granite counter tops installed and the guy who sealed them used that same sealer. He definitely did not do it that way and I'm guessing thats why I still get water marks. So I picked up some and will do it my self. My question is, is it ok to reapply it over whats already there and is if so how should I prep the surface? Thanks!

    • @santabarbarastonemasters2025
      @santabarbarastonemasters2025 3 года назад

      Watermarks are not indicative of sealer efficacy, rather water that has dried on top of the surface. To determine sealer efficacy, place a few quarter size drops of water on the counter in a small area. Let them sit for 10 minutes. Wipe completely dry. If the stone subsurface is dramatically darker than the surrounding areas, they did not properly seal the surface. Watermarks, drips, etc., will happen when the water simply air dries and is not wiped off, and then the surface is polished with a microfiber cloth. Chemicals in water or the hardness of water will affect the degree to which you see the marks. Hope this helps!

    • @steveh8224
      @steveh8224 3 года назад

      @@santabarbarastonemasters2025 I'm sorry I meant that is was darker as if it soaked it up and left a darker mark. So I'm guessing it has to be done again? Some parts seem pretty resistant but others not so much haha. Thanks for the reply 👍

    • @santabarbarastonemasters2025
      @santabarbarastonemasters2025 3 года назад

      @@steveh8224 An indication of ineffective sealer efficacy or sealer application, is when water placed on a surface and allowed to dwell for 10 minutes, and then wiped completely dry, if the sub surface is dramatically darker the sealer was not appropriately applied or was an ineffective sealer. The sub surface of the stone should not be dramatically darker and upon being wiped dry the darkness should turn back to the surrounding color of the stone very readily. So altogether, yes you would need to re-seal again.
