DIY CAR REPAIR CHALLENGE $$$
Auto repair shops have a tool to help you save money by repairing the car yourself instead of paying them to do it! If you have noticed user car prices and repair costs going up, then you might want to consider paying an auto-shop to ONLY inspect it and provide a report on what is wrong with the car before deciding to have them repair it or not. Sometimes the issues can be fixed yourself with basic mechanical skill or the shop may even be mistaken about something they think is wrong. A shop I used took detailed pictures of the issues and location of the broken parts and I saved several thousand dollars by making some of the repairs myself.

I think you’re brilliant and competent I’m a diy guy myself and I love learning and challenging myself. Most don’t have the confidence
Thanks, I think it may be more that I’m always broke and so try to not be so broke. Haha.
Thank you so much I have a extension cord reel I need to do this I know this is a hose reel but like u said is the same mechanism
Yep, did one on mine as well.
Great video . Can you just re tile that top part of the pool without re plastering the pool ? I want to re do my tile top . And paint the pool is that possible without replastering ?
Yes, you can retile without replastering. But beware of pool paint as it tends to only lasts a couple years.
@ thanks mate 🙏🏻
Anybody who has used the real aircraft paint remover in the 80’s, 90’s & early 2000’s, knows this product is trash. They shouldn’t be allowed to sell it. It’s totally useless, unless it’s latex, cheap 1k or water paints. You’ll get the aroma of ammonia & get to clean it up. Don’t waste your money or time. Be prepared to strip mechanically.
It’s definitely not the same stuff and doesn’t work as well. It I can see using it to get a portion of the old finish off and then mechanically strip the rest down.
Why not “epoxy garage-floor” the pool instead of plaster?? Last for 3-4 years ?
Everything I’ve read says the epoxy stuff might only last a couple years before it starts chaulking up and I wanted the solution that lasts a couple decades.
I have a feeling some dishwashing gloves might do the trick.
Different primers cause difference
Interesting, that makes sense.
Hey brother, I need one of that. How much is gonna be one of that?
Still have them up on my website link if you want one.
Primeweld and FlexZilla... Good man!
Add some grout between your coping and tile as well id go with epoxy incase the concrete moves it wont crack so easy. If pool gets to full water will start seeking thru there and tile will eventually pop out especially the small glass tiles .
Added caulking to the joint to allow for movement.
Dude. We wanna skate your pool. It’s perfect.
It’s full of water now! 😉
Are you in Knoxville? Do you still have this mower? Or did you happen to sell it in April for $150?
Mower was sold.
@@bdpgarage did you sell it in April to a guy with a grey Nissan? 🤣
@@artemartem1134 i don’t remember those detail but it’s possible!
@@bdpgarage what I’m getting at is, I bought it from you HAHA
@@artemartem1134ha, hopefully you made some use of it. I ended up with a JD instead.
Very interesting I am in the pool business and have seen many decks drop.I may have you make me one! Do you have any issues with the slab cracking on you a customer of mine had his deck lifted and somehow a corner was broken off??
Mine has not cracked yet. It does seem that you need to make sure the slab can actually move before trying to lift it, otherwise the tool will keep lifting and something will break. I’ve found that it helps to not “pinch” the concrete slab between the lifting arm and the hook. Adding wooden shims under the lifting arm to keep it close to horizontal seems to help. Also try lifting the slab a little bit at a time and see if it moves. If it’s not moving, figure out where it’s hung up on before continuing. Some decks are reinforced with rebar and so what looks like a small section can actually be quite a bit larger. You may need to cut an expansion joint in that case.
Luv the design
Thanks!
Its very strong stuff. Its the best available
Really really strong stuff!
Would you install the tile BEFORE completing the demo of the plaster and why?
Demo the plaster first, at least remove the plaster near the tile before installing new tile. That way you don’t damage the new tile. The chipping hammer doesn’t always go where you intend. 😉
Thank you. That's what I was thinking but they put the tiles in yesterday anyway. I'm not the expert but I do have common sense.
Nope!! I only do leak detection and repairs that are superficial. My company will fix things that don't involve draining pools. Especially in the keys. But I commend you sir. It's not easy work.
Definitely some hard work! Thanks.
Are you selling the plans?
I was giving away the part outlines in DXF format and then selling fully assembled/welded parts. I’ve only got one left of the current batch.
@@bdpgarage can i get the dxf outlines? Thank you
@@CHAOTiCxWAYzsend me an email from the link on my website and I can send.

1. Thanks for making this video. It's great and very helpful to us others in the 'pool with cracks community', haha. Not to get off topic, but at 6:15 into the video, regarding the main drain, I would definitely abandon this single, out of code main drain for safety reasons. While it may be nice to have a main drain for circulation, cleaning, etc, it's not worth the entrapment risk that it poses. You could retro-fit to a code-compliant multi-port main drain system, but that would be a fairly big, expensive project. With today's powerful and often over-sized pumps, main drains like this one can become really dangerous, especially to kids who just love to poke around at them. Alternatively, they do make a retro-fit 'safety' main drain cover, which can bring this type drain up to code. I think 'AquaStar' company makes these. And not to be a 'debbie downer', but I'd consider getting rid of the pool light (120 VAC?) too. Pool lights are great and pretty to look at, and I believe may even be required by modern code (the idea being that you can see if a person is laying on the bottom of the pool), but regardless of code, I feel that the electrocution risk does not outweigh the benefit. Of course, GFCI and proper pool bonding will help mitigate the risk. However, I prefer to light the pool water via an external source, such as a spotlight mounted on the house, a post, or similar alternative solution.
It got a new drain cover that’s code compliant. But most of the time, I don’t use the main drain and let all the water get cleaned through the skimmers.
I just changed all the fluids in my 2002 Jeep running gears - front/back differential - transfer case - transmission - engine oil … knucklehead how much I saved doing simple stuff
It would be a disaster without a doubt, unless you happen to be an expert and have 4 expert friends. Good call to pay for the plaster job, make up the money by doing other task which don't require that very specialized experience.
Yep, Still replenishing my bank account from that expense and having to repair other stuff.
I didn't know you were fabricating them to sell: I thought you made one for yourself. I will go visit your website. I honestly don't know if I could use your slab-jack. I am in the early stages of either remodeling, repairing or restoring our swimming pool deck and tiles etc.
Originally I wasnt but after getting so many requests I decided to do so. Have 3 left of the latest batch. You would need to be able to access one side of any sunken slabs and be able to fill them with something once they are lifted to the height needed. I used stone and construction grout to fill the voids underneath.
Exactly what I was looking for
Mine just arrived! The packaging was outstanding. I will be putting it to work tomorrow.
Glad to hear that. They are heavy and so I always worry how the packaging holds up.
@Mrlexlopez12 howd it work?
Thank you for talking me out of plaster
🤣🤣
great job. Your welding and metal skills are awesome
Thanks! Some others would not agree with you though. Still a lot to learn.
you can waterproof the tie wire
It was pretty easy to grind out and fill with hydraulic cement.
Shorts...sucks
Theres a more detailed long form video on the channel.
Did you contact pool companies or concrete companies?
All the companies I contacted were pool companies. I assumed concrete contractors wouldn’t be too interested in that. But maybe I’m wrong?
I don't have to watch to know you can. I got a quote on my Vulcan Nomad for 5k. Strange engine tick. Did it myself and WITH the special Kawasaki tools I had to buy it cost me 500 bucks. But that's not all. That 500 bucks included a boatload more than just fixing the issue. I was able to replace half a dozen wear parts while I had the engine out.
Yes, but watching the video helps out the channel. 😉🤣
The “hack” is paying the shop just for an inspection and then doing the repairs for items you can do yourself. They will actually tell you which parts are the problem and you can see from my numbers the savings can be huge.
Thanks for sharing your Maker Project! Your slab lifting tool reminded me of our Plymouth Fury III jacks and jack hook. I have to repair our swimming pool, but the more I watch YT channels like your channel I realize that our slabs aren't as bad. Some of tiles have fallen off the pool wall and that is when I learned that my parents paid a contractor 15 years ago to give the swimming pool a makeover, which included new tiles glued over the original tiles, new grout/mastic/mortar and provide a less slippery deck. Five years later in 2014 we experienced a couple of tropical storms that caused extreme flooding in northwest Florida, which shifted the slabs, I honestly don't think the slabs have shifted any further since 2014. I am trying to determine the best methods and solutions with a fair cost. I think I will be forced to do the DIY method because we received a bid for 25K
Got a picture of the fury jack you can point me to? Curious what it looks like.
How many times have you broke the concrete where the definitely awesome invention meets the concrete under the slab?
I have not had it break at all, but I did have one customer who reported it breaking. It sounded like he was trying to lift up a slab that was too large or was not free to move.
Do you think this might be the same thing for a garden water hose?
I’d bet its the same mechanism but I havent tried it.
If it's that easy . Thanks
Not hard at all. Works with retractable power cords too.
Super interesting
One should really use an Oxy/Acetylene torch with around a #2 tip for heat shrinking so one can more control the heat effected area. Propane/Butane or MAP gas have way to large of flame and heat a significantly larger area. Which intern creates a lot more distortion on sheet metal. Also the use of the spray bottle and rag is to CONTROL your heat effected area. We don't want it to reach the good area around the damage. There is no point in checking your panel until it has completely returned to room temperature U WILL GET A FALSE READING! The shrinking disc is a great tool. However lets keep in mind it's intended use is to iron out the minor HIGH spots after our hammer n dolly work. At this point You really want to be using the spray bottle and rag to again CONTOL the shrinkage. Think of it as BLENDING the last little bit of metal work. Lets remember he is learning. Learning is trial and error fact of life! Without failure how do we learn what to do? LOL The struggle is real but it's part of the process. I think this was a great video. It shows U don't be afraid to try an that U can correct your mistakes. He will figure it out and U will also. If your really nervous what I did was go to my local body shop and ask them if they had an old panel they didn't want? Cant recall if the just gave me a fender I believe been years. Take it home n try U aren't out anything and U can learn so much. Plus if U can correct it. Hit it with a hammer n do it again. LOL
😂😂
My brothers company made some out of rebar folded them like staples
I did the same for a couple cracks that I was unsure about. Supposedly the downside to that is you dont get any clamping force from them, just holding the concrete where its at.
Cut 1/2” rebar 16” long bend ends 2” down..boom you got a staple.Everyone does it different
I did just that in a couple spots so I didnt have to order w whole pack of new staples.
Do you mind to share the contact for a good bid from Florida?
How long could you have the gunite exposed to sunlight ? Im thinking about resurfacing my pool backyard entirely myself.. im not sure if thts even possible. Pool is about 33 thousand gallons.
I dont know if theres a limit to exposed gunite, but lots of people have it exposed for many months while waiting for plaster crews. Its the plaster that has some limits on exposure.
Have you tried side cretes roll on plaster?
@@Gummy1991 i have not, but I did consider it. Ive read a lot about the type of coatings that can be rolled on and they dont seem to last very long, though I havent heard much specific feedback on sidercrete to judge.
cool tool
Thanks!
Next time you can pressure wash and acid wash it, then apply a bond kote. No need to remove old plaster unless it’s delaminated.
More than 1/2 of it was delaminated so I decided I disnt want to risk it.
Government made em take out the methylene chloride
Yep
Shoulda definitely straight acid washed it then power wash
Turns out another option was needed, hence the next video. 😉
do you have to demolish the entire plaster? Could someone technically try to detect every single hollow points and just make those repairs. Man i really dont want to take out all the plaster T_T . I am kinda in your situation, most of the plaster seems to be glued to the ppool , but there are some hollow spots. More context here: my pool been sitting empty no water for years btw and some of the plaster seem to be doing fine and some arnt.
You can try finding all the hollow spots. Lots of contractors do that and then replaster. But if they miss spot or the plaater becomes loose later, the brand new plater can fail as well.
I am in the same boat. I am in SC near Charlotte and looking for a crew to replaster my pool.
See if you can find a local pool store that has business cards. That was a good resource for me.
@@bdpgarage That is a great idea
