No flaring

1. This landing is fairly smooth. It's the rollout which is bumpy because of a rough runway. 2. From the FCOM (flight crew operational manual): "the criteria for a safe landing is not a smooth one". Which is true. In fact, a smooth landing can be less safe than a firm one - notice how I use the word 'firm' not 'hard', we'll get to that. 2.a. Touching down really smooth (butter as you MSFS2020 "experts" would call it) can lead to the speedbrakes not extending automatically, potentially causing the aircraft to not decelerate enough and cause a runway excursion. EGSS has a fairly long runway so that likely isn't an issue in this particular case, but can be in smaller airports (Ryanair do fly to a lot of small airports remember). 2.b. If pilots try and touch smoothly, they are likely to float. This could mean landing after the touchdown zone, and could definitely lead to an overrun, even at a larger airport like STN. 2.c. Aquaplaning is a real problem with soft landings. If the runway was wet, and a pilot gentle touches the ground, there will be a layer of water between the a/c and the runway, causing all sorts of problems like skidding or lack of deceleration. 2.d. All of these could lead to a runway excursion, especially when combined. 3. A hard landing is a landing which exceeds 2.1g (so it creates a force 2 and a bit times your bodyweight). That definitely is not the case here. 4. Just because everyone else is sharing videos and talking about how bad Ryanair's landings are, doesn't mean you have to. Don't leave comments like that to attract likes. 5. Who are you to critique this crew's landing. Just because you completely a landing challenge and got so many XP on MSFS2020, doesn't make you an expert. These are the guys who have gone through years of training and had experience landing the 737 - which by the way is actually quite difficult to touch down smoothly in because of the tire configuration.

Here's what is happening. Throttles to 40%, stabilised, hit TOGA. Take off thrust set, indications normal. 80kts, check. V1, check. Rotate 2 to 2.5 deg/sec, on to the FD's and pull through the dead band. Positive rate of climb, gear up.

Boeing are keen to point out that a smooth landing is not a criteria for a safe landing. But this was in fact butter! The decel on the runway is always rocky. A lot of kinetic energy to turn into heat.

People on here saying what hard landing it was? What?! Surely that was a very gentle touchdown. Stansted has an incredibly bumpy runway with lots of repaired patches, especially when hitting the central runway lights. Not all Ryanair landings are bad. Stop following the trend. Great video!
