Big band sounding music of this era just makes me so happy.

Recorded on 07 March 1963 at Van Gelder Studio in Englewood Cliffs,NJ. Coltrane, Hartman, McCoy Tyner-piano, Jimmy Garrison-bass, Elvin Jones-drums. Coltrane was keen to record with Hartman, his favorite jazz vocalist, and producer Bob Thiele made it happen. Coltrane as a leader recorded with no other vocalist.

Recorded at Van Gelder Studio in Englewood Cliffs,NJ. Original producer was Bob Thiele who was also responsible for teaming Ellington with Louis Armstrong and Coleman Hawkins. Reissue producer was the late, great Michael Cuscuna. The digitally remastered CD was released in 1995 - Impulse! IMPD-166.

I admire Charlie Rouse so much. And I think he was the perfect saxophone player for Monk. He dug into the relationship of the melody with the harmony and used monks voicings. and monk and all of his bands always swung!!

Charlie Rouse doesn't get the recognition he deserves. Too many other good sax players in that era.

Wow, is this great or not? I just love the line "The cops took her in but that women didn't need no bail, ahh she wiggled one time for the judge and the judge put the cops in jail..!!!"
