США
Добавлен 13 фев 2020
SAB is the official School of New York City Ballet. Founded in 1934 by George Balanchine and Lincoln Kirstein, The School of American Ballet has been training ballet dancers for generations.
SAB is a vision realized...
The School of American Ballet is not just a place, it's the people who make it special. It is generations of people dedicated to preserving and passing on the legacy of the School. To wrap up our 90th Anniversary year, we asked members of our alumni community and faculty to sum up what SAB means to them in one word. See what they had to say, and join us in celebrating nine decades of pursuing the vision of Lincoln Kirstein and George Balanchine.

Advice from SAB's 2024 Capstone Students

SAB Artistic Director Jonathan Stafford once said, "Ballet is an art form that has to be passed on from person to person, and, as we like to say, heart to heart." In that spirit, we're excited to share what our recent SAB graduates had to say when asked what heartfelt advice they would have given their younger selves. We hope it provides inspiration and guidance to all our current students as t...

I appreciate these 'behind the scenes' documentaries. Very interesting. Thank you for posting.
"Life-changing" I'd say. When Violette Verdy gave me a SAB scholarship in 1972, life was never the same again.
I could watch an entire hour of this 💜
Sumo was a a wonderful dancer. Legendary teacher. She took over where Danilova left off. Watch the Balanchine essays. Nothing g escapes her eyes. Great that the magnificent dancer Jay BBC Mezzo is teaching. If they’re always looking, find a way to get Farrell and Kirkland to teach the advanced students.
So much to impart. Thank you for the memorable moments from your impressive dancing. There were wonderful dancers but I mainly bought tickets when she was in the program so I went a lot. Every time I saw her in ballets like Symphony in C or Concerto Barocco or Tchaikovsky pas or so many others, she lit up the theater. I became more impressed as there were more subtleties I noticed. I was overjoyed when she returned from Bejart.
Love love Debra! She had one of the purest legato lines of all American ballerinas. So musical, such clean phrasing. And just beautiful.
I see that you have many videos on your channel. But your videos are not ranking. The number of viewers on the videos is very low.
But aesha ash teaches at sab and has a big title but Suzanne doesn't have a job there. Or gelsey Kirkland. Or merril Ashley. Doesn't make sense.
Thank you for pointing this out.
So wonderful to see this interview, thank you. She is a living Legend. Love you Suzanne Farrell. Curiously the only time I saw her dance was when she was with Béjart, she had an incredible stage presence.
Still the best mother ginger! 🎉
Love Debra Austin. Amazing dancer!
What a blessing to the students to have the opportunity to learn Debrah Austin❤
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Brillant, she is living Legend.
Thank you for this share. I had never heard of Debra Austin and she seems like such a wonderful person. I'm happy that former alumni are now coming back to SAB to teach and share their gifts. The school will undoubtedly benefit as alumni studied with such legendary faculty and each teacher will undoubtedly bring fresh perspective and inspiration to the next generation.
Congratulations dude for everything. Just making your dreams come true and enjoying your life, just as it’s supposed to be.
Ms. Richard, Megan Fairchild could not be a better role model. Not only is she one of the most talented and inspirational dancers in the world, she is a mother of 3, and somehow managed to get her undergrad degree from Fordham and has recently finished her MBA from NY University!!! WOW. You are very lucky to have her for inspiration and I know how much you must value and appreciate the experience. The spring performance was amazing and Monday Night was truly a memorable experience. Congratulations and hoping you achieve what you set out to accomplish.
love you from brazil
I loved Tumi. Her classes were so challenging. Fond memories ❤
Jenifer Ringer was my favorite principal at NYC Ballet. I attended many of her performances, especially the Mendelssohn Scotch Symphony - I watched amazed as she jumped into the arms of waiting men. She was the essence of feminity and refinement. So glad she will be taking an important role at SAB. Obviously, her personal and leadership qualities were noticed by the administration and recognized.
❤
SAB hands are so over the top now. I don’t remember them ever being so harsh. It totally disrupts the line of the arm.
Victoria is so adorable.
I saw her in the on pointe documentary!
Olivia you worked with me on Nutcracker day ty
In dallas
Not even a mention of her father who was a star at NYCB
Thank goodness there are still professions where you have to know your stuff, not just sail on being a nepo baby!
Does anyone know where I can watch On Pointe? Disney took it off Disney+ and I've missed it so 😢
I'm right with you; miss it a LOT
Me too. I came back to it regularly. Please let me know if you find it somewhere
Those bronze shoes are gorgeous and such a good match.
Incredible! I will do all these hacks!
Lovely, Suki! My best to you.
He speaks with great sincerity - he is impressive. I see why he was chosen to be a teacher. I spoke to him once after a presentation. These memories are fascinating!
This school is my dream collage and summer program. i wish to be a professional dancer on Broadway. (:
I am so jealous of these guys wearing colored tights! That is my biggest dream ever!
Extra tights. Great idea. I’ll try that next audition. Congrats
This is so incredible!!!
Huh. Kay Mazzo is now 77 (as I write this). We're all getting old, aren't we? I saw her during her "dancer days" But after she "hung it up", she's still an active part of what Balanchine and Kristen created. She now shares the chair of the School of American Ballet. Huh. Still doing it all... I think all of the original Balanchine ballerinas should be doing something... SOMETHING in that company. If they're too old and injured to be personally hoofing onstage, they should be doing something behind the scenes... "Dance while you can..." --Shirley MacLaine
She is charming! More than a dancer, she is a real personality. No wonder she was taken into the company.
Living legend Kay, SAB is so lucky that she is still actively involved.
i love this series!
The performers seem as enchanted by Balanchine's Nutcracker as the audience children.
So well spoken!
"One month." Brilliant!!!😁
I have a question, please- where can I watch On Pointe, please? It was a two year tradition with my children, but I cannot find it.
Sadly, DisneyPlus took it down and there is no other place to watch it. Contact DisneyPlus and let them know you want it back! ;)
SAB students are so lucky to work with her, a living legend.
A legend!
❤ I love it !
awww! adorable. i love the part about crying all the time. lol.
Please please take off the masks! So unnecessary!
Why are these people wearing masks??? I refuse to watch a video portraying the dehumanization of human beings into lowly slaves. Somebody at ABC/SAB needs to wake up unless they are purposely displaying slavery in their dancers. Those masks protect you and anybody else against nothing in terms of disease. Maybe they think that dancers don't have brains or will do anything to get a spot in the company. How pathetic. I guess that they think that breathing CO2 is healthy for the dancers or maybe they are training for a marathon. Disgusting. Are you going to put them on stage with the masks too? Why not?
It would be great to actually see them put the shoes on after they share their hacks. Really enjoy these videos, thanks!
