Why the S5IIX does NOT need a rig ...
Welcome to the channel guys. Doing my best here to keep consistent with S5IIX content. Today I want to share from my experience using my camera in the industry why I backed it all down and decided to run with a much simpler rig.
It might be worth mentioning that I also have a top handle with a 5-inch monitor that I do have when needed. However, I do find that due to the speed of content creation, I choose not to set this up, as I often have to switch from tripod to gimble regularly.

DJI RS3 Mini Does Not Work With a Cage ... Unless ...

In this video we take a look at the DJI RS3 Mini and not the fact that you need an extension arm to be able to use a cage on the camera. Hope this is helpful to some. Filmed on S5 with Sigma 28 - 70mm. Here is the extension arm that I looked at: www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0CTQL73QM/ref=ox_sc_saved_title_5?smid=A38BAGQ812OD4L&psc=1 Thanks
L-Mount Samyang 35-150mm ... I AM RETURNING IT!

What a disappointment! Though it isn't the end of the world to have some lens creep, from all the reviews I had seen I thought this was a guaranteed fixed issue, but I was wrong. The Samyant 35-150mm is a fantastic lens, but if your not happy with lenses with lens creep, then this isn't the lens for you. If your interested in videos around the Panasonic ecosystem and film making then please sub...
Thank you. I have the S5ii and I know it won't be a big deal to rig it properly. I get the whole box shaped camera thing. Sure, it can be a little easier to rig it symmetrically. But, rigging a DSLR shaped camera is not as big a deal as the box shaped camera lovers make it out to be. I shot a feature film with the GH5. No problems with rigging etc. whatsoever.
Who cares man!?
Absolutely! This is the only reasonable way to have this camera! Putting extras at least for me is just a flexing, the camera won't produce better video. The most common thing is loosing option to shoot important moment, because your rig is heavy or uncomfortable or whatever. You can change between handheld, tripod and gimbal, im shooting racing cars and nobody is going to wait me to change the camera setup and also feeling super cool, when I can switch between video and photos in just a click. Happy that somebody is speaking about that!
I completely disagree. I rig my camera out so I have power all day and a follow focus for manual lenses. It’s not heavy, and the form factor with a battery makes it more comfortable to hold
Yeah, just depends on what you are used to I guess. What type of work do you do? My point with these cameras is it's not necessary. Changing a battery takes moments, and unless you are filming a 1 - 2 hours ceremony or interview that shouldn't be a problem. I often find time is always against me, not sure what type of work you do, but I am often jumping between gimbal, sticks and handheld.
Hi, tell me why did you suddenly decide that the LUMIX DC-S5 S5 is better? Can LUMIX S5IS be compared to canon and Sony for wedding photography ?
i struggle a lot to get my s5 "set up" and now i dont use it. The truth is that all that money was a bad investment. I use mine naked.
If i can go back in time i just buy a better lens.
Thank you for your video. However, could you tell us more about the transfer speed to a computer? 50GB via an SSD to a computer vs. 50GB via V3 to a computer? Thank you.
Merci
wow, actually a video about something NO ONE is talking about, thx!
Great news, big thanks! 🤗 Just for the sake of maximum safety on commissioned work: I am shooting my S5mk2X (mostly just Long GOP) into a SanDisk Extreme PROV90 card in slot 1 and 2. After watching your informative and encouraging video, I am thinking of using a V60 or V30 512GB backup in card slot 2. Any idea would there be issues if the backup (slot 2) is writing into a slower card than the slot 1 ...? I have never had any issues with SanDisk Extreme PRO cards. But backups are a important in all work 😅
Hey! Glad the video was helpful. Not sure how to help other then trying out, have a play, and see what results you get. As you know you can shoot with different card brands and sizes so as long as you are in Long GOP and have a V30 card which is fast enough it should work? The Extreme PRO's are great though, and ultimately if you have the money it's always a good decision to make so you have access to the ALL Intra whenever you might need it. Thanks again!
Unfortunately, Lumix is IRRELEVANT nowadays. Far are the golden years of the GH2/3/4/5, the G7, the g80, the G9. Lumix used to be class leading photo-video capabilities. Full frame was a dumb movement, m43 has so much potential in terms of stabilisation, fps, processing power, small bodies and lenses. L-mount lenses are scarce, heavy and expensive. That's why nobody talks of the S5 or any other Lumix model. Sony and even Nikon are ahead now in video capabilities.
Well at this rate, if you're not using the external SD to record and not even the All I codec, than it's even better to go for the S5 II rather than the X version as it's even cheaper
I currently have my s pro 70-200 f4 for sale on eBay for a good price.
They don't anymore charge a percentage on eBay
To sell or to buy??
@michaelgreenvideo to sell
I’m on America, I drink tea too. Probably because I don’t like coffee. LOL!!!
Hey Michael Green, my name is Johnny and I'm a freelance logo designer, would you love to have a logo for your new channel to have a branding image ready for your videographer channel journey to come to make new audience attracted to click in, know where to find your contents and also as merchs prints as well? Let me know if you interested and I love to design it for you! Also, it's nice you be yourself and you drink tea instead of coffee, I like tea more than coffee and alcohol too! :-)
thanks, a great tip, but I was thinking, if you have spent all that cash for the S52X, specifically for those super-high codex, well, really, you need the V90 don't you? If you are just going to use the non Intra Long-Gop....why buy the X....if you see what I mean?
So the big sell is the Pro Res which you need the drive for. Which I brought with the camera. But, I only need that if I ever get clients who require Pro Res. But for RUclips bits or other projects I have going on it’s not necessary. Having the drive on the camera though, though small still isn’t super comfortable compared to just the body. But these things are a process, sure one day I will have some V90’s. But they are not essential. Make sense?
Talk about being invested coming from multiple GH5. I now have a S5 IIX, 3 - S5 II & the S9 for Weddings & Events, these Cameras are absolutely brilliant. Now using Sabrent Rocket V60 256gb Cards and I’m never worried. As someone that shoots paid work on multiple brands LUMIX has set a standard that I am very much appreciative of, being able to use less expensive SD Cards are again just another “Thank You” from me 🍾
If you want to record to both SD cards at the same time (dual/backup recording), V90 cards are needed for high bitrate codecs.
Wow thank you for sharing this. 😊
No worries, thank for commenting bro
Just subscribed...love your casual and relaxed music and format!
Awesome, that’s encouraging, been trying to fit these in around work and another channel I do on faith and spirituality, and all other bits I do, that I just though, “lets just record and share what I know!” Good to be able to add to the community, and hope it becomes useful! What camera do you have?
Subbed back
@michaelgreenvideo Hello from rainy Seattle!!! I've been testing every one of the super low-budget Lumix cameras I can (with limitations on time, money as well) which included the GX1, GH2, GH4, G3, G5, G7, GX85, G85 and my favorite, the FZ000...I have a website where I've been storing all of my test settings...I hope to get a GH5 when budget allows😃
Coffee is SO MUCH BETTER than tea.
Lool I am with you mate to be honest! I just happened to have tea there at the time!
My Lumix s5IIX records in 5.8K open gate 10-bit ProRes 422 with external 2T T7 SD.
Isn't open gate only 10bit 420 ?
@@AIexisD Yes, 10bit 422 at 24fps and 30fps in full frame.
Thanks for sharing Michael 🙏✅ like & sub 🤩
@@christianwmeyer Thanks mate, your content is awesome! Subbed to you too!
Isn't shooting to an external SSD still even cheaper?
long GOP codecs that can be write on V30 cards are one of the best modern day inventions
No reason to use a card at all when you can get a TB ssd for larger storage and transfer speeds.
An SSD is nice, but.. I don't think you can do redundant recording while recording to an SSD, so if the USB-C cable unplugs, then that's a bad day. Also, can't use an external USB PD battery if recording to an SSD.
Ive had a s5iix in my cart for ages and youve added another tick to my checklist of reasons to buy it!
Nice, I am going to release a video on the best way to get a good deal on the camera. But have you check Panasonic website? They sometimes have a great deal, and if you know anyone who is a student they should be able to get you 15% off with studentbeans
I actually had a V90 when I just purchased it...and a a-Data really small and effective SD, non listed in Panasonics site...but working perfectly well. So thanks...I´ve been buying some of this for daily work!
for 4:2:2 Long GOP I use V30's all the time!! I will suggest using the extreme pro 300/MB/s over the gold Extreme 150MB/s cards. Though the Gold cards work I had one fail on me for a long recording once which was sketchy. Great video mate!
Appreciate it!
Sony A7SIII can record 4k 50p on V30 sd cards !
Whats the cage you have on the 5iix and the hand strap please?

@michaelgreenvideo thanks✌️ may i ask youhave the fullcage? Pls
If it had cfexpress B I would switch from my x-h2s but that 2tb card i got inside it is insane and cheap.
Hm I use v60 Cards but I use the S1h. V30 are slow for All intra
I hear ya. He did say that in the video.
Ahah happens the same to me, I buy ssd drive for my s5iix, but I had one card at the office and wend I try that, works great, so now I just use the, rip the ssd drive 😂😂😂😂
Good content, keep it up Michael!
I also only have v30s. I’ve heard though that when they get full they slow down a lot and can crash the camera while it records so I’d be careful with that
Interesting, I have maxed out my 256GB a few times with no issues? Maybe it's the slower versions?
@@michaelgreenvideo I will give it a try for sure
V30 means it has a 30MB/s write speed guarantee. That is about 240 Mbps, which is more than enough for all the Long GOP formats in the camera, which top out at 200 Mbps I believe.
This guy solved the problem with an o-ring - check his video if you are interested: ruclips.net/video/R-Odqz0t7HE/видео.html&lc=UgztEEQX8jwmBRZEvxR4AaABAg
I purchased 4 of the s5iix cameras and I was happy after I realized I just needed 8 of these cards. I got the 1 TB micro versions and have filmed several weddings. I’ll just leave them recording for 6-8 hours straight with a battery attached tot he usb. I am a little bit newer to weddings and I always have anxiety about missing important moments.
4!!! And your a bit newer to weddings! Man that's awesome haha! I wish I could have jumped into the same. Honestly, the second best thing about these cameras is you can get decent B cameras for them for around £600 for the S5, but if you can go all in with the S5IIX's as B cameras then awesome!
😂😂😂 ...secret yeah ? umm what's next... let me guess ...you are discovering v-mount batteries ?! Dickhead !
Yeah, it's a different mindset. People were complaining that the Canon C80 records to SD cards -- yes 'complaining' that it only records cheapo-inexpensive media. I defended the decision saying that the camera doesn't need expensive high speed, proprietary media -- that should be a bonus! Americans are different man, they want new, bigger, faster, longer, heavier. They don't understand economics. They only know that 10 is more than 9. Yes, 'they' -- I no longer identify as 'American.' ;-)
Haha this comment made me laugh, appreciate you adding to the convo. That was the great thing about the C100. You could film all day on a 60GB Sandisk cheap cheap card with no issues!
Great video! I still recommend grabbing some V60 cards (when they are on sale), so that way the file transfers to your computer will be speedy. Some V60 cards even approach the speeds of V90 cards!
Cheers man, yeah that's a really great point, and honestly the v60 cards are not too bad a price really!
@@michaelgreenvideo my go to are the Lexar Gold V60 cards. Almost as fast as V90, but half the cost! (Even less if you get them on sale)
Yes, that's true; it can handle just about everything except for All-I
Cool vid. Im mainly using my oair of s5ii for photo but trying to so more video for youtube etc. Im using the v30 as thats all i had from my fuji system.
Awesome, glad you liked it make. Yeah, really that's all you need in my opinion until you have client work that demands it and justifies the extra investment. Subscribed to your channel mate, keep the vids coming!
Lens creep fix that looks almost factory: ruclips.net/video/R-Odqz0t7HE/видео.htmlsi=7mPX-F1-cTWdR7Xw
Awesome, thanks for sharing this, I will pin this once it allows me too - new channel so needs to be fully verified.
@michaelgreenvideo that's great thanks mate and good luck with channel
I solved this problem using an o-ring.
I've seen a "fix" for this with an O ring.
I have the samyang 35-150mm on e-mount. There is a lens creep, the L mount reviews I've seen the zoom ring seems to be more tight, so the lens creep however it lens creep about the same as the tamron 35-150mm.
Exactly, the reviews I saw said it was tighter on the L mount, but for some reason my experience is that it doesn’t seem to be tighter on the L mount. Not sure why…
