@@learnsurfacing Oh alright! I wanted to ask something about you're website, do you offer one time purchases for you're courses or only subscriptions? I am a student and affording subscription for this price gets very expensive very quick. Also something completely unrelated but, in the industry do people look more for alias modelers or icem surf modelers? Thanks in advance.

@@LucasLEFUR I've sent you an email about the cost which I hope will help you! In industry at the moment there is more demand for Alias than ICEM Surf - but Dassault (who own ICEM) have just come out with a free trial version of ICEM Surf which will help people to learn. This could be a real game-changer for ICEM Surf in the industry. If you learn Alias then ICEM is probably easier to switch to in the future. Both systems use the same underlying maths so they are very similar in many ways. It's mainly the interface that's very different.

It's probably not how you would build a concept car usually - it was more to show how trim with history can work when you want to iterate a basic design quickly.

The thumbnail image is from the original FBX data rendered in Blender I believe. You could get a similar result in Alias using an environment. If you have Alias 2025 go to the Visualise workflow button at the bottom. Rendering in Alias is not the easiest. I hope to create some videos on it in the future.

Yes. I've never seen it but apparently it is used in some companies. Only a very few compared with Alias and ICEM Surf.

@@learnsurfacing In which of these programs (Alias vs Siemens NX) do you think it is easiest and best to create class A surfaces? I use Siemens NX to create surfaces.... There is almost no information on the internet about creating class A surfaces in Siemens NX, so I would like your advice.

I don’t have any experience of NX. Alias is much more widely used than NX for A-class surfacing and, as you say, there are tons of tutorials out there. So it would certainly be easier to learn Alias than NX.

Have you redefined the letter "B" for blend curves? And then pressed the Enter / Return key? It should ask you if you want to redefine the CustomPuckToggle as BlendCurveToolbox. This should get rid of your problem. Let me know if it works,

You need to go to the general preferences and there’s a custom puck tab on the left where you can choose the hotkey for the puck. A bit weird that they have two places for setting hotkeys for that feature. Nevertheless you can also go into the hotkeys editor to change the toggle to something else but make sure to hit enter and depending on if your chosen key is already used confirm the warning or cancel. I think the puck can be quite useful for faster accessing more functions. I use the marking menu a lot but space is limited there and I might use the puck more often now

You're right - it is odd that there are two places to find hotkeys for the puck! The one in General Preferences allows you to set it for temporary use whereas the one in the Hotkeys Editor is for when you want the Puck to stay. Like so much in Alias there are many ways of accessing the same thing - I think it's good because it gives the user more choice.

Thank you, guys. I disabled it, just as you suggested. I had a conflict there because the blend curve was working, but so was the custom puck. I was really annoyed with that. Sorry for my previous comment. Nonetheless, I really don’t find custom puck useful.

It's not really necessary. You can go and pick another surface to align anyway. Or Pick Nothing if you want to make sure that you're picking a new surface.

Hi @BK_design. The Corner Blend tool doesn't give as good results. The manual method seems very long-winded when you first try it but after a while it gets guite quick. The benefit of it is that you can make the hulls all planar and you can apply the same principles to any type of corner - G1, G2 or even G3.

Thanks @kobrodie4063. The video quality improved because the previous videos were all from Teams. This one was direct from the screen using Camtasia. I'd imagine Alias was really good on Mac - but sadly I don't think they'll be porting it there anytime soon

Did you have the sound on? It may not make much sense without the sound! The idea was to show that Enable-Closest needs to be switched on (recommended) in order to pick surfaces internally as opposed to picking them by their edges.

Unfortunately because the video is from a live Teams session there is nothing I can do to make it less laggy

some people don't like or cannot (maybe physically cant) use the clutch keys to rotate the model. I wouldn't be so quick to judge why some things are implemented.

I think Autodesk like to give the user a lot of options - they leave it up to the user to decide which they prefer. Maybe new users in particular would like having these viewing options here.

This could be used as an example on how to work off scan data, which is based on a clay modell, which is what most studios in the automotive industry are working with. The goal is to create a clean single span/bezier patch layout and keep the design character intact.

Hi @borazeytunlu963. They do use FBX files and other similar formats in the car industry as a starting point for surfacing. But sometimes they will use reference images instead. As @akaAlias says they still also create full-size clays and then use laser scanning to capture the data as an STL (mesh) file. So it's essential to be able to work from any of these inputs.

Just the standalone version. It is a slightly old version of ICEM Surf but the fundamentals are still the same.

No - ICEM Surf. Very similar in many ways to Alias. Is also a freeform surfacing software used in many automotive companies throughout the world.

@@allenaugustinjohn1070 it's as good quality. ICEM Surf was the better system in terms of quality (A-class) back in the 90s - but now Alias is just as good. It's really down to the user.
