Indigenizing Philanthropy. Building Solidarity.
Native Americans in Philanthropy (NAP) promotes equitable and effective philanthropy in Native communities. The cornerstone of our work is our relatives and our networks. We support several communities and partners that work together to build knowledge, community, priorities, and power in the sector. These networks include Native professionals in philanthropy, elected Tribal leaders, Native youth leaders, Native philanthropic executives and board members, and Native nonprofit leaders.
We leverage the power and wisdom of these networks to:
- Increase the authentic visibility of Native people and communities
- Develop tools and resources to educate funders
- Establish more meaningful relationships that align with our Indigenous values
- Increase funding and accountability to Indigenous-led organizations, grassroots movements, and Tribal Nations.

Native American Issues 101 - Native Americans in Philanthropy
Activists are low intelligence pawns. And of course this simpleton has “pronouns” next to her name🤦🏽♂️🤣
First, I COMPLETELY AGREE! No culture should be mocked to get attention. However, mimicry is the best form of flattery. AND I see costumes of “cowboys” all over yet nobody complains about as a 6th generation rancher from Texas ( with native blood in my family) I don’t get offended. It’s just a costume. There is an old saying “if it don’t apply, let it fly”. Don’t get offended, educate yourself
Cultures are to be shared not to be used as a means to divide mankind
And we perpetuate Tribalism and all war is from Tribalism. Unity of Consciousness too esoteric?
For me i could never be my favorite Disney female, way too dang cold in Wisconsin, living in Oklahoma as an adult (non Indigenous person) i would never think of ceremonily dress as a costume. But if my niece 7 years old, wanted to dress in an Indigenous costume, not ceremony dress, I'd be like lets Go. It's complicated... and so simple at the same time. They just want to be their friends, their mentors, their icons.
Hello I’m defending the culture that we over ? Love have a good life in cuba
Why do they sell it in stores then.😂 And why is it only you spoiled Americans seem to care what people have on
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 IN 30 years youll be whining again cause nobody knows who you are !😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
You tell my daughter she can't dress up as pocahontas after she just did a huge project and was so inspired. 💔 we do it out of love and admiration.
Why not? Why let white leftist feminist tell you to be offended? No greater complement than for others to copy you.
Correct. RESPECT and HONOR to our traditional REGALIA!!❤😊
I want my culture to be used as costumes. It means my people were not forgotten. Sharing culture, sharing meanings, and giving new meanings to cultures is what keeps them alive. But if you want to gate keep then dont be surprised when no one knows nor cares about your culture or customs.
Disagree 😎🪶
Naw, folks giving homage, respect, or using my culture as a costume is fine, as long as they don't "mix and match" with other cultures. Because it means i have not been forgotten. How long before folks forget that Aunt Jemima used to be a black woman on a syrup bottle or that a native woman used to be an icon (almost non-existant) on a tub of butter. A generation or two? It'll be like when archeologists dig up a city, and it's like this culture used to exist but nobody remembers these people or cares about them anymore.
I have nothing but respect and love for you. My husband is Alaskan native alutiiq . I send you love and peace of mind with prayers 💙🕊️
I quit buying Land o Lakes butter because they took my relative's picture off the package. That's the only reason I bought that brand.😆
ALL cultures are to be honored and respected...simple as that.
That is true we just have similarities.
Exactly
Only the democratic
Sone people meaning democrats! California governor Newsome passed a law that you don’t need voter ID to vote meaning they plan on cheating
Yes , you're right
Are you stupid?
Ain’t nobody taking anyone away from the voting process
Really? Are you retarded??
You're right - nobody. Just a bunch of somebody's as in the RepubliCons.
Native problems are made by natives. Your people created the barriers.
So didn’t the same poverty and isolation exist before whitey showed up and took their paradise away? What bs
Thank you for this valuable share. I have subscribed and look forward to learning more, growing my support, and sharing forward. Peace and gratitude for the love you have for people and our land 🙏🏾
Beautiful people!! Much love ❤😊
No black "and" nothing. We are the indigenous ones. The "Civilized Tribes" owned slaves and participated in black oppression. We tried with the 1866 Indian treaty and never got ours. Nope. FBAB4U
Such an informative collaboration! Thank you for the hope 🫶🏿
Land back too!
💩💩💩reparation for u!
Oh yes, this is great! Thanks for sharing
😅
Reparations are absolutely necessary to be given to all Indigenous peoples of the United States 🇺🇸.
Ok
If you want it so bad you shouldn’t have lost it in the first place. There is no situation in which any Indian deserves a fuckin cent of reparations.
Sharing this with some amazing philanthropists with wonderful ideas for water, power, and rematriation projects that will eliminate the need for destroying our Mother Earth.
For those that object to this reasoning, understand that government funding to the reservations is not charity, it is a pittance towards the reparations owed for all the broken treaties, ethnic cleansing, and theft of all the most profitable land.
I am all for full tribal sovereignty! Let's get those border stations set up, shutter the BIA and start talking trade deals. Can't wait to see the passport designs, I bet they're going to be sick! Oh yes, all those fishing and hunting rights are up for renegotiation. Will be interesting to see how the election maps change when a whole lot of sovereign nationals are removed from the US voter rolls.
"I want to give you this money" "but I'm worried you're going to embezzel it simply due to racist ideas about Native tribes so I'm going to require a 20% match" 🤦
*Promo SM*
So proud of these people invigorating the movement of language reclamation.
Thank you for sharing that affirmation! Aho
Great webinar!
Mitakuye Oyacin = WE ARE ALL RELATED to creation (each of US and life itself) and OUR CREATOR!
The so called environmental movement or environmentalists oftentimes desire to limit humans from interacting within that land but that perspective is not from a holistic approach as within traditional indigenous culture….
The solution is really spiritual and simple but far from easy! We need to raise our consciousness in harmony with Mother Earth which means we need to step up and become good stewards of her and the Creator’s human and environmental resources. We are sovereign free beings and WE need to honor that! Oren Lyons, Joagquisho at Onondaga has been teaching about the true constitution, The Great Law of Peace most of his 93 years! The Haudenosaunee Confederacy has treaties with England and France before the colonialists established the false constitution of the US. There is a yet unfulfilled prophecy of a Seventh Nation joining the six semi-sovereign Six Nation Confederacy but let us be honest, some of our own people have been a subversive influence. Now many are sincerely trying to work within the confines of our broken legal, constitutional system and economic systems but they are all on the wrong foundation from the beginning. The “system” is irreparable and a lot of time is expended in attempting to work within a broken system. However, WE ARE SOVEREIGN BY OUR MERE EXISTENCE but we, THE PEOPLE, have allowed our sovereignty to be hijacked by a variety of self interest groups and individuals. Again, the educational system is designed to create corporate slaves in support of that system. We need to unite in solidarity peacefully with those who see the inner workings of these selfish individuals and groups who are NOT FOR OR BY THE PEOPLE but it will take ALL OF US WALKING OUR TALK embracing humanity for the good of ALL and disallowing mean spirited people to continue to be in power! I refer back to Chief Oren Lyons, the teachings of the Peacemaker and the ORIGINAL AND ONLY TRUE CONSTITUTION, The Great Law of Peace which is “inclusive” and the unfulfilled prophecy of a Seventh Nation joining the six semi-sovereign nations governed under one constitution, The Great Law of Peace. Who is the Seventh Nation? Ask Joagquisho, Chief Oren Lyons!
I returned from Peru and ceremonies with the Shipibo people recently. I didn’t want to go back to the US. What I believe is that a spirit has brainwashed so called civilized people who created an oppressive government, an educational system brainwashing students to become corporate slaves to feed the insatiable appetite of consumerism resulting in the destruction of the Earth Mother’s animal, plant, water, and humans! Yes, “After warning researchers that “medicines” are sacred plants for his people for centuries, Biraci posed the delicate question: “Why don’t you invite us [to participate in the research], we who are the true connoisseurs?” “Let us unite,” he proposed, to heal human society in decline. “We indigenous peoples have open arms.” He then lamented the lack of respect of scientific research towards the inhabitants of the forest, human and non-human. He criticized the production of pills with ayahuasca or its psychoactive components and said that his people pray to the plants before touching them to use as medicine.” Yes, why have the brilliant scientists not consulted with traditional indigenous keepers of true knowledge? They have been brainwashed! I have been concerned with the depletion of medicinal plants from this alienated society of disrespectful and arrogant scientists. They don’t mean to be but they are part of the problem. In Colorado where I live Psychotherapists are charging $175.00 an hour for psychedelic assisted therapy! A lot of talk about preparation, set, setting and integration mixed now with efforts at reciprocity as if that exempts them to continue on their path of exploitation! I like what Sari Pina said: Sacred Mushrooms as Political Agents in the Face of the Psychedelic Renaissance - Sarai Piña (Translated by Adam Aronovich) Among the Mazatecs, the sacred mushroom, or ndi xijtho (‘little one that sprouts’) as it is known in Mazatec communities, is a sentient being that has a personality, intentions, and a voice of its own. During evening ceremonies with these beings, the Mazatecs together with the Chjines (“sages”) enter an altered state of consciousness that also implies an exercise in heteroglossia or polyphony involving mushrooms and other extra-human beings brought together in front of the altar. This presentation will address some examples of the political agency of sacred mushrooms, including relationships between the Mazatec and extra-human beings, as well the way mushrooms act as an embodied territory that has been violated in the name of science for the last 55 years, but that can regain strength with the psychedelic renaissance., Psychedelics and plant medicines do not exist in a cultural and ideological vacuum; the unfolding of experiences and their outcomes are thoroughly shaped by individual and cultural expectations and the underlying narratives -the stories that we tell about them, what they are and what they are for. Plant medicines such as ayahuasca or peyote, used by traditional and indigenous peo-ple, have been historically enveloped by the eco-social narratives of their mythologies, ontologies and epistemologies, which structure and support the healthy integration of those experiences within a tightly-woven communal and relational setting. Most Western psychedelic users, howev-er, often lack shared, coherent and structured means of sense-making, while also often lacking a meaningful sense of community, which is indispensable for integration, and a crucial protective factor against predatory ideological memes and personality cults. The epistemic and ontological background of many Western psychedelic users is often an ad-hoc collage made of cherry-picked aspects of indigenous ontologies, New Age spiritual tropes and cliches, selectively com-modified and re-packaged bits of eastern spirituality, esotericism or quantum theory and a strong emphasis on conspiracy fantasy, such as the often recycled anti-semitic tropes of global-ist domination, all pieced together by the markets of spiritual consumerism and subservient to the hyper-individualistic ethos of modern neoliberal spiritual subjectivities and their glorification of the self. In this panel, we will discuss and unravel some of the risks inherent in this potent and potentially dangerous concoction of “Conspirituality”, opening a door for better collective sense-making efforts, the adoption and promotion of better critical thinking skills within psychedelic spaces and better education in relation to the systems of knowledge and values of relevant in-digenous groups.
that was wonderful. i'm sad i wasn't there to join. i remember amache and sand creek well -- maybe one of the most powerful experiences i've ever had, certainly while working in philanthropy. it was profoundly and deeply moving. nap and aapip have always been about the work and our communities first. congratulations on this convening! can't wait to see/hear more of it in the next few days!
