Another fantastic evening on the water. South Swell was bumping to the point we were concerned about getting into Kaimana. Before departing we watched the channel for a while and knew we would have to pick the right set or there could be some canoe crushing going on! First ever Launch from Makail Pier, around Makapu Point and then downwind to Hawai'i Kai. It did not disappoint and was so grateful to go with a fanatastic group of paddlers that have made the run before. End up doing a Hawai'i Kai to Kaimana later in the afteroon as well. Awesome Day of running these incredible waters!!!

How do you like the Ballare?
I don't have much time in any OC2's to make an informed opinion or comparison. I was not steering in this case. Couple of paddles in a Gemini and this is my 3rd paddle in a Ballare. I can say, like the Volare, the seating area/position is very comfortable. The adjustability of the Iakos is a plus. Hopefully I can spend more time in the canoe and increase my skill level to match either of those OC2's.
Great video... huli, huli, huli! Hey, it can happen. I had never considered that you could huli on the ama side... I will be mindful of that now. I haven't really tried to surf mine yet, but we have tiny long rollers here at the Doheny outer breaks, and they are temping sometimes.
Ama over Huli's can be quite hazardous to your canoe... :)

When you surf with an oc1 u need to get the ama out of the water dont lean on it use your paddle and your core to balance

That it did. What I have learned, is actively exit the canoe over the ama before it gets really loaded...Staying in means more cantilevered weight on the iakos/ama.

I do. Nothing serious, but I started any type of paddling with Beyond The Teams in late 2020. Beyond The Teams is a non-profit whose mission is to help individuals and other non-profits. Our 2nd fundraiser was a 300-Mile OC1 Paddle from Key West, around the Southern tip of Florida and up to Fort Pierce, FL the birthplace of Naval Special Warfare (SEALs). I was "volunteered" to be the steersman early on in the process...We raised $100,000 for the charity we were supporting, which was the Trident House Charities program.
