Woah this is so cool!!!! The fact that grumblebum uses voices… kinda reminds me about how iterator sounds are people speaking but reversed and chopped up and sped up. Stuff like that is so cool, it feels. Like a really organic kind of creativity? Also the neuron sound being a real sound made from space is so so so cool, I always liked those silly little noises in game. That’s so neat

WAIT WAIT I KNEW THE NEURONS SOUNDED FAMILIAR SOMEHOW, I THOUGHT I WAS GOING CRAZY Earth's Song is one of my favorite "space sounds" ever recorded, and the neuron chirps are one of my favorite ambient noises in RW. I thought it was a coincidence but hearing them side by side in this video blew my mind!! That and Grumblebum; that's such a cool fucking way to make music, that song is also a favorite of mine from the soundtrack

I don’t think James Primate is appreciated enough for the absolutely wild sample flips he pulled off for Rain World that set the atmosphere perfectly and mesh so well with the game.

7:21 I remember that once at school, in 5th grade, the teacher showed us this sound. When I reard it in game, I immediately thought about it. Now I can sleep knowing it's the same sound.

oh my GOD the intro to Kayava is EXACTLY identical to the start of Careless Whisper, I thought I'd gotten pranked at the start of this video This is really cool though, neat to see some of the buildings blocks used for the music (esp the neuron sounds and Grumblebum!) Having spent WAY too much time listening through all the game's SFX (props to cookiecaker repo!!!), yeah the devs used a ton of Foley for most, if not all of the ingame sounds, and some are pretty easy to pick up on when listening in isolation (noots are party horns, the pearl sounds are clinking dishware maybe, and so on). Then I guess there's some additional processing done ingame to add more variety and make things sounds more natural, etc. Some of the ambient sounds are even named exactly after how they were made, such as car wash, fridge, generator, 50hz hum, "kepler" (another NASA sample with some pitch/EQ added?)

I can now make fire music.

This was an interesting watch. Me and a bunch of friends have a Rain World mod in development I'd like to compose for but the blockout phase is in a bit of a stasis right now, I hope I get to actually contribute xd

I remember hearing where someone just made kayava (minus the sax) using unedited presets from an app. It eludes me which app, but I believe the audio was posted several years back in Rain World's Discord. Also, "The Coast" is a slowed and reverbed (vaporwave, even) edit of an old Bright Primate song called Sunset Intermission from their Night Animals album. I know these are somewhat out of scope for the video and might already be mentioned in the google doc, but I thought I would chime in and share for anyone reading the comments.

Holy shit, that’s where the sound of the neurons came from? The little neuron blips have always been one of my favorite sound effects in the game, and you tell me they are sounds NASA took from the earth??? Never knew it would be possible but I love Rain World even more now. Amazing video btw, deserves more views!
