Awling Panels on your Horse Saddle, Awled Saddles and Comfort For Your Horse
Просмотров 9 тыс.13 лет назад
www.aussiesaddles.com - Awling should be done to balance the saddle, or to simply prevent the stuffing from going hard. If for example, the saddle drops down in the front (common from aggressive riding, where the rider is taking a lot of stirrup weight) the stuffing should be awled forward, to lift up the front, and thus return the saddle to its original balance. If it goes down at the back (ve...

    Hi Colin, I have an Aussie saddle that I use for Horseback archery and when I line up for the target .I am standing on the stirrups with my hands occupied with the bow the other on the arrow.What I am worried about is will your the stirrup strap survive if my weight is pulling down on the leather with my light weight of 260 pounds and the stirrup bar cutting through? Oh do you ship to Canada?

Not worth it 😢

    First thing I notice is... yours are upside down from ours in Oklahoma and Texas. The two holes on bottom are what make the pinning piece of leather for the other two - they go through the single top hole and come back down. I have a small tack shop, sell a lot of billets, I've never seen any with the two holes up top. Must be a down under thing? LOL Great video, love the comment about the pliers, very cool finding out how old a knot that is.

    I used this process on my English saddle, This saddle was sitting in my grandparents basement for at least 25 years, before that a guy had used when he was leasing my grandparents land for his horse, and this has worked like MAGIC!! This saddle is looking new and I've only put a couple of layers of oil and cleaned it. I recommend this technique to EVERYBODY who is restoring a saddle.

    I'm so scared to hose down my saddle like that 😬 I have a very soft English saddle, any one done this and what's your opinions

    • @spannerclyde6832
      @spannerclyde6832 7 лет назад

      Well, don't follow these exact steps if you've got a synthetic saddle, most English are, especially Wintec. Synthetic saddles can get wet and be totally fine, however real leather saddles can get wet but must be towelled off after or left in the sun to dry. If it gets wet and if left in a dark place or simply put away it can cause issues, but as long as you dry it in the sun or wipe it down, it will be fine

    Hey I went to EquineAffare this year in Columbus Ohio there were 40,000 of my closest friends there. The demo guy never mentioned hydrogen peroxide - was that for mold? How the heck do you get that beeswax outta the stamps? I bought a fabulous R.W.Bowman saddle and want to keep it showroom condition. Jury still out if I can flexarize the deKunnfy I won at dressage show back in 1987. Thanks Hope to hear from you!

  • @wigglypaw
    @wigglypaw 8 лет назад

    comment 2- slob on beeswax and wait overnight and buff it a little. so is that it or do I need to put on Leather Keep, of which I have and LOVE? I bought it and the demonstrator said it was for everything. Now I am finding out its good for scratches. Next time, after a not messy ride, but with dry sand and dirt, should I saddle soap wash and leather oil again or just go to the mixture of oil and beeswax? What do I do with my western saddle its pretty plain but does have tooling along the edges and leather rosettes and strings? Do I toothbrush out the beeswax or oil and brush it out of the design? So many questions! I won the deKunnfy in a show, and I bought the R.W. Bowman for its quality and thickness of leather all around. Want to keep these babies showroom sharp! Thank you so much!!!!! -Sheri

    for 5o+ years I was told to rub in that saddle soap with the least amount of water and that was all the saddles needed. No wonder they were tuff grizzled leathery hard things like me. Same with my boots. Holy cow, I would burst my sides out of my boots in less than 2 months and have to duct tape them to wear them. It seems like when I put on oil it would never sink in and left a greasy coated feeling on my bridles and reins. Ok! I have a original De Kunnfy dressage saddle in buffalo brown leather with doubled panels and flaps the I checked out tonight. Holy wah! That beauty is stiff as a plank. If it is NOT RAINING tommorow for once, I am going to take a horse brush and glycerin saddle soap and scrub that puppy till its gaggin. Then with the grace of God there will be sun (oh please please) and let it dry. Do you recommend also scrubbing the billets? The saddle underside is wool flocked, so will water hurt it? Let the saddle dry somehow, if no sun I am using my blow dryer.
