Carolyn Hester sings Lonesome Tears. The song is by Buddy Holly, whom she knew and worked with. Bob Dylan played harmonica on Carolyn's first Columbia LP. Video 1988 or '89. Thanks to Pat Johnson.
What a beautiful voice
What a voice!! What a great talent!
Still love her her music. Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful.
That's beautiful. ❤😊
Carolyn Hester, the FIRST of the modern folk revivalists, and quite possibly the best. Her voice is both crystal clear and exudes honesty and feeling beyond words.
What about Richard Dyer-Bennett???
He studied with Swedish folk singer Sven Scholander, who was called “The Last Troubador” and a few of his recordings are here on RUclips
@@dougr.2398 Yes, but is he considered a "modern" folk revivalist?
Meine bezaubernde Carolyn, sei mir herzlich willkommen!
Auch ein Meilenstein, ein Diamant ersten Grades!!!
I lived about 200 feet down the incline off Chelan Drive in the Hollywood Hills 1971-1978. Didn't know she was even a musician. Liked her and husband Dave. They had a little girl who played with my 2 boys in mid-70s. I came across some photos of them at my house. Hope she's doing well. Doubt if she'd remember me.
I was lucky to meet Carolyn and David in Bristol..lovely night..two signed CDs great memories x
Eins der allerschönsten Lieder!
Eine himmlisch schöne Stimme - und für mich ein magisches Lied!
About the great famine in Ireland, it wasn’t what you thought you know, corruption was prevalent then too ye know....
Forgettable
One of the most beautiful videos that exists! Love you, Carolyn Hester! 💜
I loved this girl. Now she's old like me, but age has been kinder to her!
altogether powerful, and knowingly or not morphed by headbutter Dolores O'Riordan into *Zombie*
I have an LP "Early Joan Baez" where the voice of Joan Baez seems to be the one of Carolyn Hester. Did Joan Baez imitate here or is there an error of the editor?
Sorry : imitate her...
I love Athens, GA!
A fine Texas lady
the greatest thing ive ever heard with my ears
This is beautiful and so heartfelt since Buddy was one of Carolyn's dear friends for many years before his tragic death. Did she pull a flower blossom off of her guitar strap when she ended the song?
It's my pleasure. It's nice the way Carolyn does the first half unaccompanied and then has the two guitars join in.
Thanks, Steve. Beautifully rendered song. :)
nice
Carolyn Hester sang ave Maria at my Grandmother's Wedding, My Grandmother talks about Carolyn when ever We get on the wedding subject, when She was a young women she had a lot of up and coming friendsand Carolyn was one of them, it makes her so happy that I can pull up her music on the computer. Sadly I cannot find Carolyn'sversion of ave Maria and it makes me sad because grams has alzheimers that is taking her memories away rapidly. I would LOVE If someone could find it for her before shes gone
Wonderful! Thank you for this!
I have an old, old album with her on it from the 60's. She's been singing it that long and she's awesome.
Hauntingly beautiful.
did you ever notice how many female folksingers were also stunningly good looking??? Carolyn, Judy, Joan, Mary.. and yet rockers like Janis and Grace YEECCCHHH
The stunning model Grace Wing Slick you are talking about? Man. Glasses time.
Grace Slick is one fine looking lady.
the most absolutely amazing thing about Carolyn is she did not lose her voice at ALL. Unlike, very sadly, Joan Baez, who is even younger. :(
Wow, you don't have to like how Baez sounds now, but her voice is richer and deeper and some would say even better now that it's mellowed
Why does the Statue of Liberty look like Ron Weasley?
Yes, Carolyn was and remains a folk icon. Read the book, "Positively 4th Street," for a very good picture of just how important she was. Additional information about the title: Posted by Pogue Mahone on 18 March, 2002 06:25 PM: Well, the Irish sometimes call potatoes "praties." Prata is Irish for potatoes.
@LaerdBryn define folk pls
Didn't Buddy Holly bring both her and Waylon Jennings to New York in 1957/58??
ça arrache le coeur... très beau! Je ne connaissais que de nom Carolyn Hester, maintenant que je sais ce qu'elle fait, je ne regrette pas d'avoir tapé son nom sur RUclips. Je me dis même heureusement que je l'ai fait!
she has one of the prettiest voices!
Carolyn cooked me some potato pancakes and rubbed my back once.
Carolyn Hester has a very beautiful and distinctive voice. I became a fan back in 1961.
potatoes
thank you
I recommend "Positively 4th Street" by David Hajdu - this multi-biography focuses on the Baez sisters, their lovers, Farina, Dylan and others, and the folk scene of the early 60's and it's transition to singer/songwriters in the mid 60's.
Didn't Joan's sister recently pass away. In all the years I loved Joan, never knew a sister so beautiful and talented existed until I saw the PBS TV special on Joan. Does Carolyn live in LA? I'd love to see her again. I saw her in about 1964 at the Golden Bear in Huntington Beach, CA and got her to sign one of her albums that I still have to this day. Love her. I believe a few years ago she was given the American Folk Singers award.
Richard Farina divorced Carolyn Hester and married Joan Baez's sister Mimi.
Folk music is beautiful!
praties still grow small where i am...
Did she sing in an episode of The Twilight Zone?
That was Bonnie Beecher. They likely knew each other.
praties are potatoes
Agreed. Carolyn is still touring and comes to Dallas as often as possible. I would say though, that Baez has certainly maintained her voice, as well as many others. We all lose that "range" eventually, but not the love of singing. Carolyn has a beautiful soul.
I prefer Brian Setzer singing...
"Those who aren't familiar with her are in for a real treat." Indeed, you are correct. This is fantastic.
a video of historic importance.!!!
