Kielder Viaduct and Wood sculpture walk surprises and setbacks
Not every walk we do goes to plan, and this 3.5 mile loop from Kielder Castle was one of them.
For starters the weather was a bit wet to say the least, and the rain gor heavier.
We knew it was going to be a wet one, but thought a nice 3.5 mile loop around Kielder Viaduct and a short detour to take a look at Tommy Craggs excellent wood sculpture would still be fun before heading of to the Cafe for hot coffee and cake, and we all know hoe T likes her cake.
Well, the route I planned didn't work out and plan B wasnt much better, but we still managed an enjoyable 3 and and a half mile loop and had good views of the viaduct and the sculpture, even if we did get soaked and did a bit of "off piste"...

    When they fixed your bike did they cover the labour cost or did you have to pay that. Please could you tell me the cost if you did have to pay so I know what I’m getting into because I’ve got the same error code, thanks

    • @NTLife
      @NTLife 3 месяца назад

      I had to pay the labour costs of changing the motor which was about an hours labour in total, as I also had the bike serviced at the same time, so the cost of the additional hour was negligible compared to the cost of the motor, had I have had to pay for that, which thankfully I didn't.

    Great informative video! Looks a great ride. Hoping to be in the area in May. My wife and I have the hybrid bikes rather than full mountain bikes. Is the surface of the railway track fairly smooth or does it have rocks and stones and uneven surface? We have done the Tissington Trail and High Peak Trail in the Dales so wondered if the surface was similar. Not sure we could manage the rough and stoney tail you were on so would probably just go on the railway trail to the reservoir and back if its fairly smooth and no rocks and uneven rocky surface. Many thanks Martyn

    • @NTLife
      @NTLife 10 месяцев назад

      I'd say the surface on the old railway line isn't as good as the Tissington trail in general, but you'll be fine on a hybrid or even gravel bike. It's a nice ride with good views, hope you enjoy it.

    Looking to get one of these for comuting and weekend rides when i can make it out to a proper trail. I have a full sus so i was thinking the gravel would be a nice change from a mtb. How have you found it and do you think it be suited to a 6 miles commute witch is moderately hilly. I live in a rural area i was siding to a gravel e bike for when the roads arent very road like. Would you recommend?

    • @NTLife
      @NTLife 11 месяцев назад

      Go for it! Very similar to why I brought mine. My mtb is a full sus emtb, which is great fun, but somewhat over biked for a ride from home around the rough lanes and bridleways. The vitus totally excells on these. I find it quicker on the lanes and great fun when I just want a quick blast after work or at a weekend. I can do 20 plus miles without thinking, they just roll by.

      Depends very much on a whole lot of things. How fit you are, how hard you ride, the road surface, the traffic, the amount of assistance you use, if there's a headwind or tailwind, the list is endless. All I can say is that on a comparable ride on 50/50 tarmac lanes and off road, I find it a bit quicker than my Cube stereo hybrid 140hpc emtb, but that is virtually twice the weight. But either way it's a nice bike to ride and very nimble.

      Hi again. Got the bike and tested it. Very windy conditions and on studded tires 2.1 averaged amazing 28.5 km/h. But this is zone 2 puls, I pushed on flats and downhills. Max speed around 58km/h. Nice surface and no stops. Very satisfied. Will see what this beast does in summer 😮😅😊

They have put another 10% discount on the bike you can now pick it up for an unbelievable £1799 now from the 2023 model. Only thing i notice on mine is that unless you actually turn the battery off i get about 8% drain on the battery overnight. I have googled this and it seems to be because the bike does not go into a deep sleep until 8 hours have passed. I will look at this in more detail later. looking forward to some more videos.

      TBHI haven't noticed a problem. I take my battery and drive pack off the bike at the end of the ride and take it inside to charge up for the next ride. I then keep it indoors untill the next ride. I've always done this with my Bosch emtb battery and after 3 years its still as good as new.

    • @OverlandExpedition
      @OverlandExpedition Год назад

      I have looked at it in more detail and hooked it up to the PC while it was in standby and it draws about 90 mA and it take 8 hours to shut down. It’s no big deal but just something to keep in mind if you’re away on multi day trips without the facility to charge as you lose about 7-8% of the battery. I tend to go on multi day tours and camp so I just need to remember to turn the battery off manually. I do the same when at home with regards to charging, will let you know how it goes if this ice ever goes away.

The big plus for me is how light the FAZUA system is, I bought the blank motor/battery part and that allows me to use a roof rack as it’s so light. The power assist is reasonable but in line with its intended use, someone who is reasonably fit needing help. 2021 Cube stereo hybrid 140 HPC TM 625 here. My first motor died after 1000 miles with error code 550 (Water ingress) so got replaced under warranty, the Replacment motor has got over 2000 miles on it with no issues. I've had to grease the main pivot and shock pivots at they developed creaks, tightened the motor bolts up as they were loose and causing a cracking noise with side to side play on the motor which affected the gearing because the chain line would change. I had to put foam strips around the battery to stop it knocking in the downtube. I mangled the original freehub as it was only a three pawel affair and replaced the Newmen wheels with hand built Hope Fortus wheels. Through time I yearned for a longer reach as the bike was prone to wheelie going up steep hills and I do find the handling twitchy, probably because the frame is quite short with a steep - ish head angle and a slack seat angle. The suspension has been fairly harsh no matter what air pressure I try in the Fox shock but the Fox float 36 forks on the front perform reasonably well if a bit chatter at times. I do have two 625 W batteries as I'm 17 stone and don't get as much battery life as my lighter mates on their Trek Rails so I had to buy a specific backpack with a battery holder for longer days out. I've got itchy feet now so considering a new Canyon Strive or Spectral CF9 with a 900W battery. I've had a good time with the Cube in the Scottish hills and Glen's but it is time to move on to something more capable for getting me up and down those mountains. One thing I would say is the Cubes are brilliant value for not much money and to get a same specced Orbea, Santa Cruz, Specialized ect would cost you at least a couple of grand extra Keep on enjoying and having fun mate.

      Just be aware irs slate, and will be slippy in places, plus the rocks can be very sharp in places. So ideally run tubeless and lowish pressure but carry a spare couple of tubes and some gaffer tape in case you have to bodge a damaged side wall, it's a long walk back if you do the full loop, and if you carry spares you can guarantee you won't need them. But, you will have fun, after the big fire road climb.

    Hi, great video, very informative. I’ve lived in the area for 13 years and only ever done road cycling and commuting. Now at the grand old age of 54 I’ve finally got into mountain biking. When I say “got into” what I actually mean is that I am completely and utterly hooked! Got a Boardman MHT 8.9 on the Cycle2Work scheme and did my first ride last week. I did Perry’s trail a couple of times and loved every single minute. I couldn’t wait to come back (the following day😂) and do it all again. I’ve got used to the bike a bit more now and also grown in confidence where my own abilities are concerned. I went back again this morning, and as it was very quiet over there, I had a go at some of the Follow the Dog trail. I really enjoyed it though I didn’t do all of it. Got up Cardiac Hill okay and there were a couple of those rocky bits that you mentioned at the beginning where I got off and pushed the bike. I think that as my confidence grows I’ll be able to do those no problem, though I do think that a dropper post would make things a lot easier, so that’s an upgrade I’ll definitely do to the bike. Thanks again for a great video, I’ve subscribed so that I don’t miss any content. Regards, Chris.

    Skip the onion if your family doesn't eat it. You can add anything else. Once there's cheese and eggs, anything else is good.
