BIG SAVINGS on 2016 Kia Soul Front Strut

This maintenance task is surprisingly easy. The common usage range you'll see quoted is 50k to 100k miles. I did this job on this car at 80k and can tell you I absolutely should have done it sooner. We don't drive in extreme conditions or on particularly rough roads, but it was still at least 20k overdue. Shocks / struts are often ignored, but make a major difference when updated. They got worn...

Thank You for making a DIY video. I don't like paying shop prices either.
Thanks for the video keep em coming. Because you showed such a good video in going to give it a go soon.
Which brand did you use?
Damn you have the same scratch as I do. My daughter scratched it with my other car pulling out
Id love to hear how the car is riding these days, Ive heard preassembled struts dont ride as well, but it sounds like is pretty default for the kia soul
It’s pretty good. No worse than OEM I don’t think. But there are Bilsteins that would fit and I’ve heard are really good, if you’re up to the task of dealing the spring.
Awesome video, I just subscribed.. doing the job on my 2017 Kia soul tomorrow..thanks a lot for all the info 🙏
Awesome! Thank you!
Swapped out the garbage OEM SUSPENSION on my 2015 soul Upgraded to the BILSTEIN B6 Shocks and front struts . NIGHT AND DAY DIFFERENCE ride ! Definitely recommend the BILSTEIN B6 SUSPENSION, oh stay away from those pre mounted springs ! Recommend replacing the sway bars on each drivers and passenger side to while doing the strut upgrade !
I just did the sway linkage and tie rods on a 2005 Camry. Easier than I thought. Saw those Bilsteins, I bet they ride great. Might splurge at some point, especially for the Sedona. I was being lazy and didn’t want to mess with the tool and work of compressing that spring. But to get the upgrade Bilsteins I might have to bite the bullet.
Hello. This is Cherry from Coverado. Are you interested in working with us to try our seat covers and help us make a video?
Sure, let me know details.
@@BudgetFriendlyDIY1202 Where can I send you more details?
Hi Thank you for useful video!
Glad it was helpful!
why would you even replace them, they look fine only 90k miles
Preventative, and it did improve the ride. Each vehicle can be different and technically you could run it on bad shocks. The springs are what hold the weight of the car, the shocks are just for comfort. Although I suspect completely worn out shocks could cause excess wear on the springs.
bro I have a 16 and its a 255,000 and I have not done this, doesnt seem like it needs it but maybe I will

You missed torqueing the bottom right lugnut
I went back and did after I stopped recording
Where are your jack stands? Super dangerous to rely on a hydraulic jack. Could result in a fatal injury.
Jack stands are there further underneath on the other side. Just not in view.
good quality work 😎
Thanks ✌️
Thanks a lot Great video
Glad you liked it!
Thanks for posting! This was perfect timing for me to do my suspension.
Glad I could help!
Thanks!
No problem!
Thanks for the details. Going this for my 16 y/o niece this weekend and saving her $700! Dang stealership
They’ll only use Kia parts. I never found the rear shocks to be fantastic on the soul when the car was new.
Was your van "squating" lower in the rear end? Mine sits lower. Im wondering if this is all I need to do to fix this problem
I haven’t noticed it sitting any lower. I’m usually pretty sensitive to things like that.
Shocks typically do not justify ride height, that would be the spring
@@jeremyrichmond8764 thanks for the clarification. I was thinking of replacing the springs soon. Now I definitely will.
You need a jack stand. Never trust the weight of your car with just one support. Especially with a wheel off.
Looks like he has the jack and a stand.
I had both, jack was there and stand was also under it. But if you watch the rest of my videos you’ll see 99% I remove the jack and just use the stands.
Ah., I guess I stopped watching before I saw them. My bad
Same here! my 2013 kia Soul. Now, I feel confident about replacing my shocks now.
You'll be surprised how much better it will feel to ride. I'm convinced car makers are making replaceable parts to last only 60 - 70k miles.
How are those FCS doing. I’m hesitant about aftermarket but OE is a pretty penny.
We did a big road trip a couple weeks after. 1400 miles total, they performed great.
@@BudgetFriendlyDIY1202 Thanks for the feedback. Just replaced the control arms with Kia parts from rock auto. Now time to order these struts and shocks. My Sedona has 176k miles and still running strong.
@@Rudysuarez514 wow, is that all on the original struts? The rear shocks were cupping my back tires by 70k miles.
@@BudgetFriendlyDIY1202 I think so. I go out the van with 40k. Tires have been wearing abnormally too.
What are the torque specs for top of strut nuts?
I'm gonna have to do this soon myself. Nice walk through. Would you suggest doing the rear shocks at the same time??
Didn't really matter if they're done together unless they're really bad. Biggest thing is getting front realigned afterward. Otherwise you could end up wearing your tires really bad due to things being a degree or two off.
Hey nice job guy. Way to save some big bucks$$$ Getting ready to service our Kia with 140k. Love the car but definitely ready for some struts and shocks! Thanks for the video.
Glad you found it helpful.
Great video! You gave me the confidence to do it myself! Subscribed.
Thanks so much for subscribing.
