I'm a man with a face and two eyes. I love experimenting and learning new things. I usually get excited about little things, and I appreciate the simple things in life. My partner, my friends, and my family matter to me more than anything.
FamiStudio - Morning Glory [2A03 + N163]
A song that I kept tinkering with for almost 3 years before finally settling on a "definitive" version. It even became an inside joke / meme within our friend group, since I would never leave it alone and settle. (I'm a perfectionist 😅)
For a long story short, I was never happy with the combination of bass and drums. I ended up finding the original sample that was used for Sunsoft Bass, and using that as N163 in conjunction with the DPCM sampled drums.
NOTE: I removed the older version of the song, as I discovered it was never going to play cleanly on the real Famicom / NES. The N163 drum waveforms would never have stayed in sync.
The song is planned to be used in the fangame Rayman Polokurs...

I think I just found the Sunsoft Bass sample used on Famicom / NES
Просмотров 22 тыс.Год назад
This is the same bass sample that was used in games such as Journey to Silius and Gimmick on Famicom / NES. I extracted it from an image file named "PSL9005" when I was looking through AKAI libraries, so people were on the right track to mention AKAI samplers when searching for it. Link to a WAV file of the sample for those who may be interested: drive.google.com/file/d/1kVI_lnAls6XGEt5aTV2aMuA...
Morning Glory (YM2612 Remix) (Genesis / Mega Drive)
Просмотров 6622 года назад
This is a remix of a song made for Rayman Polokurse. The original song uses 2A03 N163 (NES / Famicom), while this one uses YM2612 (Genesis / Mega Drive). This version will not be used in the final game, as Polokurse is NES / Famicom only. NES / Famicom version here: ruclips.net/video/pQ05HJzgCbM/видео.htmlsi=HyUF8XqT5olL7C_k

FamiStudio - What's the Craic? (2A03 + FDS)
Просмотров 2353 года назад
This is an NES composition made on FamiStudio, with the idea of resembling Irish styled music. The title comes from a very common greeting "what's the craic", which is often used to say "how are you".

An example of the Rayman Polokurse grappling fist which is still work in progress. Don't mind all the misplaced tiles in the level, these were placeholders for testing purposes.

The intro to this song is based on something I made over 14 years ago but never used it for anything. The idea of the song is to be pretty mellow.

This is a collaboration song that myself and Hoodoo (MagicHoodoo) worked on one day. Within a couple of hours we ended up with this. The name just comes from Steo and Hoodoo.
FamiStudio - Morning Glory (FDS) (slap bass)
Просмотров 6003 года назад
In future I will refrain from uploading songs without having some thought. For reference, I had made a version with an attempt at slap bass, until .Hayabusa had showed me some method for combining different FDS instruments to combine all their waveforms into an instrument. If anyone wants to see the original slap attempt (now unlisted), it's here: ruclips.net/video/OhKf2BehTfA/видео.html
FamiStudio - Sugar Rush (FDS) (Sunsoft Bass)

I decided to make some changes to this track, including using Sunsoft bass, and an electric guitar with power chords near the solo that .Hayabusa had sampled before.
FamiStudio - Sugar Rush (FDS)

This is a song I composed with the intention of using it in the fan game Rayman Polokurse. It's supposed to be a rush kind of theme.
Morning Glory (Alternate Genesis Remix)
Просмотров 7433 года назад
I already had remixed this song for Genesis (DefleMask) which I made for Rayman Polokurse using NES chiptune originally (FamiStudio), but I had a couple of issues with the first attempt. The bass needed to be louder to be closer to what the original song was, and I also made the snare a lot louder with more sustain, while making some changes to the part near the outro to make it have a lot more...
Morning Glory (Genesis cover)
Просмотров 4953 года назад
I decided to remake this song in DefleMask just to practice making Genesis/Mega Drive chiptune. It might not be used in Rayman Polokurse since we're likely sticking to NES chiptune, but here's the cover nonetheless. All the instruments were made with FM, no samples were used.
FamiStudio - Morning Glory (D Lydian) (FDS)
Просмотров 2533 года назад
A song I composed for the fan game Rayman Polokurse. I had originally composed this in D Major, though I had made a few mistakes with the arpeggios and they ended up with some G# notes. Due to this, I changed the entire song to D Lydian, and it turned out pretty well. Sounds even happier in a way.

JOURNEY TO SILIUS INTRO
The correct sample rate (as heard in Sunsoft games) is 30675hz.

This sounds like alien xenoblaster.
Oh very cool.

Is this journey to silius title theme bass
@@NintendoDS_fan425 Yeah we believe that this is the original sample that was used, though it had some post processing / filtering done before being used in the game (along with having the incorrect bit order, which ironically happened to sound cooler).
This is so good that even RUclips knew what the game was.
Oh yes, the globox battle pack
you have such an interestng channel
Globox Glorigins
i dont know, but i think the absurd dpcm noise makes it sound cooler
Oh yeah I agree definitely, and I even like it more with the bits in the wrong order, but it was still nice to find the source for the sample.
You forget that it was only one note to save space. The rest are pitch shifted
It was 5 notes on NES/Famicom so that it could cover all pitches due to limitations, but I believe the actual AKAI sampler was just repitching this sample and post processing it, and that the NES was just using 5 of those resampled as DPCM.
@@steo.c Hmmm... interesting.
Noise in the original bass sample missing

Is Sunsoft Bass N163??
I found the original sample that was used for Sunsoft Bass and used it in N163.
That scratchy tone in the sunsoft bass makes it more iconic tho
Agreed. I even prefer the incorrect bit order they used it in on the NES, even though it was unintentional.
@@steo.c what do you mean by that?
@@newsuperbowserworld Every byte had their bits read in the wrong order, because the programmers didn't know that the bits needed to be reversed due to how 2A03 works. In short, the sample was essentially corrupted accidentally.
Awesome 🎉🎉
Always very good I will love to create music like you 😉 You see i love rayman and when i see the passion's community and many fangames project. I would like to do a game too. But in fact what i love the most in a game it's music. And i have a other dream so i can't make a game 😅 Sorry for this long message And i will look your progress on this project 😉
😍😍
Could be a simple Analog Synth sound ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Yes I'm gonna convert it back to DPCM lol
I'm liking it in N163. 😝
@@steo.c Yes rpoblem. It was pretty hard to find because
Oooh that sounds wonderfully 80s
You, sir, are doing God's work. Thank you!
Banger track
Was it made with FM synthesis?
It sounds like it, but there's not really any info about the waveform itself, other than it being called MKS 1. These old disk images are a little obscure.
@@steo.c MKS could refer to the Roland MKS-80, a synth from 1984-1987. It does sound like FM though, but a similar sound could be potentially done with oscillator sync and resonance on an MKS-80. Though on second listen, I'm getting Yamaha DX100 or Yamaha FB-01 vibes....
@@zxbryc Thanks for the input. It definitely does sound very FM like, and yeah it would be nice to find out exactly where the sample originated from to even get onto those AKAI disk images. It would be cool to find out, along with exactly how they post processed it for NES. The closest I get to the same shape is using a high pass or shelf filter, though admittedly I like the deep punch it has without any filters applied.
bro a .wav sample and an sf2 😭😭you are a saint‼️
Yeah totally the AKAI uses the stupid SF2 format
@@Mizu2023 Why is sf2 stupid??
@@BoinguMcGoingu yeah why?
@@ameen272-amin Its just a soundfont.
@@ameen272-aminthe soundfont is innocent!!!
This bass sample (sounds like it was originally FM) is soothing
Looks like the attack is a bit softer on their version
It sounds like it, but it's hard to tell of that's just because of how heavily compressed it sounds in DPCM (it's incapable of jumping position that quickly and it kind of distorts it). They definitely have some sort of filter applied to remove some of the lower end in their version though.
With this bass, an HD version of Gimmick's ost would be a bit uncanny, but worth it.
JTS bass is pretty much the final piece of the puzzle, as Gimmick's own bass is similar to Seinfield theme's bass
@@retneychozken the gimmick slap bass? it's just slap bass 2 from the roland sc-55
@@luigikoopa8771 i know :3
That's awesome, it's a pity this got so little recognition!
Thanks. I honestly feel like it's much more empty than what I would make nowadays, but maybe not everything has to be crazy lol.
Lol, this sounds like an FM bass, should be replicable in FM VSTs... The other Sunsoft sample is more like a slap bass, I wonder if that is from Akai too.
Yeah I was actually wondering for example could it be closely replicated in YM2612. Also yeah I wonder this also, but there are so many slap basses in these that it would probably be harder to compare if it's the same, where this sample stands out a lot.
There is a DX7 bass patch (number 15 on master rom 1a) which is closest to this one. But the high-tone modulator is a little bit lower.
Or if this bass has non-sine waveforms, then i think it could be in another fm synth (i've been tried it in my software DX7 synth and it's kinda hard to compare the high-tone modulator sound)
It just looks like they're 4 back up dancers
0:07 The magician is definitely me when I see 4 clones at once

Excellent!
global...
This can be useful for a restored version of tons of sunsoft games. I'll have a hand in that.
I think you nailed it! This is probably the closest we'll ever get to the original sample without acquiring the Akai S700 which was used for processing. Now I'm gonna convert it back to DPCM lol
Yeah, the closest I can get this to sounding like Sunsoft Bass is by applying a high pass filter or low shelf filter. You can see it forming the same shape as the waveform too after applying a filter like that, but it's also inverted (upside down).
@@steo.chave you tried compressing the fuck out of it first? /s /j

I found them here, but the people in charge will only give out the password to people who request it from them on their Facebook page: zine.r-massive.com/akai-s900-archive/ The samples are in HFE files, there is raw wav data stored within them.
