NXTHVN is a new national arts model that empowers artists, curators, and the community through education and access to a vibrant ecosystem. Supported by intergenerational mentorship, cross-sector collaboration, and local engagement, NXTHVN accelerates the careers of the next generation and fosters retention of professional art talent while helping catalyze New Haven into a world-class, sustainable arts community.

Each year, NXTHVN’s High School Apprentices develop a culminating project focused on creativity, connection, purpose, and power. In Summer of 2023, we hosted TEDx Dixwell, a series of TEDx Talks that featured Dixwell community members, entrepreneurs, and activists, as well as our Cohort of High School Apprentices, who produced and shared these talks as their end of year project. Participants shared personal insights about various topics from colorism, to the importance of media literacy, preserving your inner child, risk taking, and more. A lot of paintings don’t work because the artist can’t disassociate between the subject and the combination of how a painting works
The thing every artist should ask themself is ,does this actually mean anything to me and what exactly is that ,because if you can’t be specific ,your wasting your time .
