Happy 4th of July from Pour Folks | 1776 Rye Whiskey
Dates aren’t stone fruit, they grow on palm trees.
Definition: Stone fruits are fruits with a single pit or stone in the center, surrounded by thin skin. The pit contains the fruit's seed. I think a Date fits that criteria. From Google AI: Yes, dates are a stone fruit. Thanks for watching. Sláinte
My favorite Jim Beam is the 100 proof Old Grand-Dad. I have 3 other rebuys- the 100 proof Early Times, the 100 proof Coopers' Craft, and the 90 proof Bernheim Original Wheat Whiskey. All made in Clermont or Louisville, Kentucky.
Yep, 100 proof is definitely in our wheelhouse. OGD BIB is a very good one. Sláinte
Jimmy Russell Became Master Distiller in 1967, has been working at Wild Turkey for 70 years in all aspects. "57 years as MD"
Thanks for clarifying, I figured he probably didn't start as a Master Distiller. Sláinte
I just picked up a bottle of King's creek and I wasn't expecting much after seeing a couple of reviews. I have to say, I like it. I don't love it but I can definitely enjoy drinking it. With that said My splurging whiskey is wild Turkey 101, Buffalo Trace or Evan Williams white label so I'm pretty much a cheap date.😂 My standard drinking whiskey is just plain Evan Williams Black label. I enjoy it and for the $20 it can't be beat for 86 proof. I can always spend four more dollars and get the white label 100 proof.
Always drink the whiskey you like, the way you like to drink it. Don't need to spend a lot for good whiskey. Slainte
Thumbs up for honesty, not surprising to mix up Eagle Rare and Buffalo Trace being the same mash bill. I'm still gonna try an Eagle Rare Thanksgiving for the fancy bottle since I found a pretty good price, even though I thought Buffalo Trace was mediocre. I've heard Eagle Rare can vary from bottle to bottle, maybe try a new bottle in the future if you see it at a good price. To me, sticking to MSRP is part of the game so I like your channel name.
Thanks for watching. We want to be real. Been burned chasing some unicorns and paying way to much. We have an uncracked ER, will have to try it again. Sláinte
@@PourFolks1920 Definitely give it another try. I got the Eagle Rare for the first time and I can say it's objectively better than Buffalo Trace. I'm always wary splurging on anything more than king value Old Forrester 100 proof, but I can say even at 90 proof Eagle Rare to me is on the level of 60 dollar bourbons like Old Forrester 1920 and WT Rare Breed. It doesn't have the proof, but it has a depth the younger aged stuff does not have.
Thanks for the review, gentlemen! I recently paid $27 for a bottle. Honestly, I prefer the sweetness of the Jim Beam White Label Bourbon and Rye at half the price.
Thanks for watching. We have a bottle of JB White label Rye in the wings. Stay tuned. Sláinte
nice vibe guys!
Appreciate that. We are just being true to ourselves and hoping it resonates with folks out their. Thanks for watching. Sláinte
Great video, gentlemen! I'll buy the Woodford Reserve Double Oaked for my 60th birthday next year! I can't find the Jim Beam Double Oaked anymore.
You can't go wrong with the Woodford DO, great for a celebration like that. Sláinte
I'm thoroughly enjoying your descriptions of bourbons I've seen in the stores, but haven't tried yet! Thanks, gentlemen!
You never know until you give them a try. Sláinte
I tried this last night with Eagle Rare, Buffalo Trace, and Benchmark Small Batch. I got them all wrong, and liked the Benchmark just as much as the other two. Oh well, I love a bargain!
That will be easier on the wallet for sure. I have seen more practical prices on both Eagle and Trace lately. Enjoy. Sláinte
I plan on picking up a bottle to taste soon.
It is a good one, stay under $50. It is worth that. Sláinte
Have you gentlemen had George Dickle Rye? If so, what ya all think? Cheers!
We have not, will add it to the list. Not sure yet, but all these Rye's may have spoiled Bourbon for me. Stay tuned. Sláinte
@@PourFolks1920 definitely prefer ryes now! Both are yummy! I'll be looking forward to what you think of the George Dickle rye, amazing, especially for the price!
Thank you for your exhaustive rye tournament, gentlemen! Looking forward to further reviews and tournaments!
Thanks, it did take a while, but we got through it. So many more Rye's to try as well. Stay Tuned. Sláinte
Great second rye semi-final video, gentlemen! I haven't been able to purchase the 1776 yet, but I can't wait to make it my Friday sipper!
Thanks for watching. 1776 was a great surprise. Definitely worth hunting down. Sláinte
As always, great video competition! Love OF and Sazerac for daily sipping. Never can find Jim Beam Pre-Prohibition Rye in So Cal. Intrigued by JB's "deep oak!". Looking forward to the other semi-final!
Thanks for watching. They are all good. I heard the JB Rye Pre-Pro can be hard to find. Worth the hunt. Sláinte
Great wildcard round, gentlemen! I got some cash for my birthday and am considering buying the 1776. Does it have any sweetness to complement its pepper spice?
I just poured a sip and man it smells good. Has a dark fruit and maple nose. Smells like a candy store, were they make their own hard candies. On the palette, smooth front end with a spicy kick in the back. The sweetness is dulled a little by the peppery spice, but I think it makes it unique. Sláinte
Haven't tried Pendleton and 1776 yet, but Sazerac is one of my regular sips. Entertaining video, gentlemen!
Thanks for watching. Pendleton was one of our favorites a year ago. 1776 was a big surprise for us this year. Slainte
Knob creek is good , so is Jim beam I been sipping the honey lately I like it better than jack d
JB over JD has been our experience as well. We haven't gone to high end on JD yet. Sláinte
Wow! I can't find Pre-Prohibition Beam in SoCal. I've been enjoying Beam 80 proof rye and Old Forester rye. Great video, gentlemen!
You can order it thru ur local people you know that right
We just found the the JB Rye 80. Will be reviewing soon. Best of luck finding Pre-Prohibition Beam. Sláinte
Great video, guys! It's fascinating to me how whiskies taste different in blind tests versus by themselves. I'm learning a lot in your rye competition!
Thanks for watching and commenting. We are always learning ourselves. Any given day, you can like or not like a whiskey. So many factors, we believe. Stay tuned as we pair these Rye Whiskeys down to the one we are enjoying the most in this moment. Sláinte
Great video, gentlemen! I'm sorry you're disappointed about Lost Republic. I hope Old Overholt makes it into the wildcard battle. It's been around since 1810!
Thanks for watching. Lost Republic did well on its own but with these two, made it hard to pick above them. We shall see where Old Overholt ends up, definitely a contender for the wildcard. Sláinte
I really enjoy the Old Forester Rye and look forward to your comparison of all those ryes!
Get ready Round 1 Flight 1 will be released this week. Stay tuned. Sláinte
Delicious bottle! Cheers!
WT for the win
Wild Turkey 101 is truly the best for the price. Hands Down. Thanks for watching. Sláinte
@@PourFolks1920 I always have my decanter filled with it
Getting hard to find one in michigan anymore, i found one the other day though 👍😉Cheers 🥃
Sorry it is hard to find, we have that issue here in CA as well. Take time for some of these to make their way here. Thanks for tuning in and leaving a comment. Sláinte
Great content, guys! Keep it coming! My favorite ryes right now are Sarazac, Old Forester, George Dickel, and Jim Beam White Label Rye. All under $30 in my market (SoCal). I can find the JB White Label Rye for only $13!
We have Old Forester and Sazerac coming up in a blind Rye Flight challenge, Stay Tuned, Sláinte
Great video, gentlemen! I can't find this 90 proof JB rye in my part of Southern California, but I've been enjoying the JB White Label Rye that Jay referenced for the past two months.
Thanks for the comment and for watching. Yep JB White Label Rye is on the list. Sláinte
I like it, and have you seen the new, white label Jim Beam Rye, at 80 proof?
We have not, will keep an eye out. Thanks for watching. Sláinte
Great episode, gentlemen! At this point in my whiskey journey, I tend to favor ryes and am looking forward to your upcoming rye reviews. BTW, I'm currently enjoying Jim Beam 80 proof rye as my daily sipper.
Thanks for watching, we have Jim Beam Rye and Old Forester Rye coming up, as well as our Rye Whiskey challenge. Stay tuned. Slàinte
intro music is too loud
lighting could use work too. you guys are too dark.
speak louder too, quite a bit of mumbling.
Thanks for the feedback, always a work in progress
@@PourFolks1920 happy to help
I heard that it tastes like the JB single barrel but with less proof, single barrel is 108 proof
Adding Beam Single Barrel to the list. I haven't seen that at the store yet, We just just started getting the Black 7 year
Found 1 liquor store in lansing michigan that had it last month, not bad for $20 👍🥃😉 Cheers
Yes, for the price it makes it a pretty good pour.
Lost Republic is the perfect name for that bourbon. We had to exit Californ-eye-A 3 years back, living in the rockies now. When people ask me where I'm from I mumble californiaaaaa lol-I used to be so proud of the golden state. I'll be looking at this channel-love your casual style-cheers boys!
California is a beautiful state, but they are pricing us out and over taxing our wallets. Just visited COS, it was very beautiful there as well. Sláinte
@@PourFolks1920 It's hard to fathom the logic behind Sacramento driving fortune 500 companies out of the state. It appears that the primary source of income is swiftly leaning heavily on taxing the hell out of everything..
People claiming they hate California have never stepped foot in Cali or lived in another state outside of Cali. Cali is freaking great man. Best foods in terms of the available cultures. One of the few places you can go Snowboarding in the morning and enjoy a surfboard in the afternoon. North Cali has the awesome forests and sceneries of the state.
Really? I left 3 years ago because Sacramento is destroying small businesses/owners-I'm a business owner. 3rd generation native, yes it's the most beautiful State in the union, surf Church's and ride mammoth the same day. It's fabulous if you're not a US citizen.
@@definitiveenergy1878 What in the blue hell are you saying? Small business here are thriving because more people want and support them. To me it sounds like you're a bad business man then.
@@rauljuarez296 You sound like a transplant from Minnesota 😂. Okay, see ya business man.
@@definitiveenergy1878 Born and raised in Cali. and have traveled to many parts of this great country. You thinking that i'm a plant just proves how great Cali is lol. I still stand by about what i said. All those who are hating on Cali have never really spent time away form it.
Agree California is absolutely beautiful, was born and raised here, We wouldn't be planning to leave, if it wasn't for the cost of living. We need our retirement dollars to go further and believe they can somewhere else. If you are able to stay, that is great. I will always be back to visit family and friends. Sláinte
Good comparison. Hello from Brazil 😃
Hello there! Thanks for watching. Nice to see others, from around the world enjoying our content. Sláinte

$180?? You are truly invested
That is the most ever spent on a single bottle for us. Yikes.
You two are so fun to watch. 😊 BTW, your audio is great. Nice & clear 👍
Thanks so much, our best and gorgeous fan. Sláinte
Rye is a cold tolerant crop that will survive the harsh winters of the northern states. States like PA, NY, Etc. had abundant rye crops, so they made a lot of rye whiskey. Corn was more of a southern crop, so the southern states made more corn whiskey (aka bourbon). They wanted to get away from the queen taxing the molasses, which is what rum was made from. you guys should try the 1776 bourbon, it’s got a nice confectioner sugar, oak baking spice and cinnamon nose. it’s one of my go to bourbons for a daily sipper
Thanks for the knowledge share and the suggestion. We will give it a go. Thanks for your comment and the view. Sláinte
The King's Creek kind of reminds me of the fruit/floral notes of Four Roses Yellow Label. Lonehand reminds me of the peanut/oak notes of Jim Beam White Label. Great channel, guys!
Thanks for your comment, love to hear what others think of the Bourbon/Whiskeys we are tasting. Sláinte
Just subscribed
Thank you, glad to have you aboard. sláinte
Looks interesting. Do you know what size barrel they use to age the bourbon? Smaller barrels (20 gal) are used a lot to rapid age whiskey for small distilleries
We do not. We didn't really spend much time. We will have to return.
You two are fun to watch 👍 Thanks for your channel posts Cheers! 🍻
Thanks for watching!
The age statement on a rum bottle means almost nothing. They typically mean that the rum was aged "up to" 5 years. That means that it could be a month old.
Thanks for this information. Once you know better, you do better. Sláinte
Rum is typically made with molasses. Only a few rums are made with sugarcane juice. They would be called rhum agricole.
Will keep our eyes out for that, Thanks. Sláinte
Please don't drink spiced rums or coconut flavored rums.
Admittedly, We have had both of these. We used Malibu Rum in our, at home, Blue Hawaiians as a short cut. We will try to abstain. Sláinte
Don't waste your time tasting those rums. They are garbage.
We did, it was. Thanks for the comments Sláinte
You know that the Cutwater is only 12.5% alcohol, right?
Did not know that, so they left out "with" in the name Cutwater. Sláinte
Mai tais should have 2 ounces of Jamaican rum in them. Appleton Signature if you are on a budget. Equal parts Appleton 12 year, Plantation OFTD, Plantation Xaymaca, and Smith and Cross 57% if you are splurging.
Thanks for some Rum suggestions, definitely heard these are better. Sláinte
Orgeat is pronounced Or-zhaat if you speak English or Or-zhaa if you speak French.
It has been over 40 years since my High School French class, thanks for the information. Sláinte
I like EH Taylor and got it for $59 (lucky), but I have loved Early Times for some years now and at $25.99 for a liter you can't go wrong. Makes you wonder about pricing. Better try Coopers craft 100 for $31 blows Blantons away.
Coopers is on our list, just haven't found it. Agree Early Times BIB is better at a better price. Thanks for the comment. Sláinte
80 proof says it all, Too Thin ...🫣
We have had a lot of people tell us to get a higher proof VOB. Will try it when we find it. Thanks for the comment. Sláinte
