Just an Idiot building dumb stuff in his garage, making it up as he goes along! Mainly Car related fabrication and some racing videos ie; Karting and some endurance racing

E34 Offseason Upgrades
Now that track time is unlikely to happen until next spring, it's time to do some upgrades from what we learnt on the track day we've done and try and make the car much better so I can get the most out of it.
Bit of boring video, I know but its necessary to get a decent plan of what's required!

Another project for the winter has popped up its a 1.9 petrol water cooled flat four out of a T25 VW Campervan. the engine belongs to a friend of mine, its got a few issues that need addressing but and all round refresh is the plan. After all this time prepping the car and getting it ready, we finally took it on track and what a blast it was. car didn't miss a beat was a bit close on the noise limit but the exhaust needs redoing anyway. The Porsche is running all on its own now, we've rewired the pump relay, but had a hiccup with the ignition, that was rectified pretty quick! Got the car up to temp and found out the rad fan was on holiday so another issue but we are nearly there! What break disc you use, on this swap?
Standard f30 340x30 discs
wish it woulb so easy on the e39s, stupid car has the only different centerbore to every other bmw, so we can't fit anything from other models, not even the wheels. That big brake looks awesome
Might be easy enough the the calipers bolts line up just get someone to bore out the discs to match your hub diameter you could even do it with a die grinder as long as you’re careful 😂
I'm pretty sure, back in the forum days, some e34 owners installed non viscous cooling fan clutches. I think they were sprung. You could pop one of those in if you run out of time sorting an electric cooling fan?

I honestly can’t complain for the price point and I’ve never had an issue with fitment either
You are so lucky, I've had several of these with the pump power wires corroded and wire casing cracked / falling apart! Last fuel sender unit was available from BMW but expensive. You have the later design with plastic fuel pipes, many have rubber and if the e34 sits they turn to mush
I was quite surprised when I took it out tbh 😂 all the vac hoses in the engine had started melting from oil contamination

There's quite a few different brands, i had the PMC one in my garage for another car but decided on using it for this, but if you want a decent self centring on the get a Coolerworx shifter but for the money PMC offer a decent set up.
keep doing this brother, pretty rare to find someone do a track build e34. As a proud e34 owner, I'm invested :D

Im in the process of doing this im doing m57 into tds auto. I put the clutch and brake pedal onto my auto pedal box whilst in the car. Top job. Where is that nice steering wheel from big man?

It’s slightly smaller think the original is 380mm but I’ve put a 50mm spacer on as I’m a tall boy 😂 so doesn’t get in the way of the dials at all!

I bought one of these last week. I've been welding for nearly 30 years and it's the worst welder I've ever owned. One of the catches on the wire compartment was broke straight out of the box and the weld quality was terrible too. Cheap, Chinese tat. There's absolutely no way I'd weld anything important with it. Just returning it now. Hopefully I'll get my money back. You'll notice Parweld's channel don't demonstrate the MIG function on this machine. Probably because they know it sucks.

What are the coilovers like, I’m on lowering springs but hate them
The bc racing coilovers are great tbh I went for the recommended 7kg front 6kg rears and that was great for spirited driving but found the rear alittle soft for the wheel and tyre set up I have when giving it the beans, I’ve recently replaced the rear springs with 9kg and it’s made it much better I’d recommend probably going for the 8front and 8 rear option for most cases

Possibly I’ve had no really issues with it atm, well since I’ve replaced the steering links! I’ll see what happens on track whether it can hold up to the abuse

Flip it upside down next time it’ll help with bedded adhesion problems that may come up when printing multiple if you need to and give you a smoother finish on top
Bed adhesion was fine, printed it that way so I’d have a smoother radius on the top edge!

I believe a few will but would be dependent on barrel dimensions, spoke design and offset

Very controversial diff mod many cases of them blowing your diff up after a couple months for the sake of a couple hundred extra quid you can get a proper lsd
Budget build so not going mad, my s14 is getting the fancy stuff! Diffs are cheap if it does go kaboom!

What length of braided hoses did you use? Are they standard length e34 braided hoses?
I used standard size braided lines for an e34 the length and fitting size are correct!

@@CSAutoWorks M5 is still not a sports car.. also brakes overheat on every single one of them unfortunately :D 1500-2100kg car will never be a sports car. Its sportier than any other competitor for every generation of M5 but its still just a reasonably well buit fast sedan.
Think most supercars and sports cars fall into that weight category, m5 are technically sports sedan or newer versions more super saloons due to being every quick cars, don’t need to worry about my brakes they’re off a f30 335i m sport!

Did you need wheel spacer?
For the wheels I’m running i needed like 3mm spacers but ran 12mm for better fitment in the arches
Great lift mate i had one for about 6 months paid about £1400 for it, but after using it about 5 times, once the novelty worn off, i found my self just useing my 2 jacks and the stands just found the lift too much of a faff, just a lot quicker using the jack to get the car in the air, i have high lift stands so can get a similar high on them.... so i stuck the lift on ebay and sold it for £800.... not saying its not a great lift and its proberly spot on for you. but for me i found it too much hassle all the best
