My toughest VFR challenge yet in the Grand Canyon on MSFS | Part 3
This will be my toughest VFR navigation challenge yet! Ride onboard with me to see if I can find my way using visual navigation and dead reckoning whilst navigating some pretty hectic airspace restrictions.
In this series, I’ll be starting at the Grand Canyon National Park Airport, I’ll be crossing the landmark multiple times through pre-existing VFR corridors. The aim is to complete phase one of the flight, touching down at the dirt airstrip of Pearce Ferry Airport. We’ll then fly phase two, taking off from Pearce Ferry Airport, following Lake Mead before trying to find my way deeper into Las Vegas to the waiting Henderson Executive Airport.

    I have been using HP Reverb G2 for a long time and switched to Quest 3 lately. From experience I can definetely say that it is caused by the Motion Reprojection. For HP using Windows Mixed Reality we install o program OpenXR Tools (not the toolkit, this is different) and enable or disable it from there. But for the Quest part it is a little bit more complicated. Motion reprojection equivalent setting on Oculus Debug Tool is ASW (Asynchronous Spacewarp).Please have in mind that what ever you adjust on the debug tool you must have the administrator rights and restart the service to make the adjustments active. But.... you will soon experience that no matter what you select for ASW in ODT it will switch back to "Auto" as soon as you run "Rift" in the headset. So practically you can never turn it "OFF" even you make sure that is OFF in the ODT. To solve this problem you may use the Oculus Tray Tool. Create a profile for MSFS and disable the ASW in the Tray tool. What ODT does is, it remembers your preferences and as soon as you start the MSFS exe it caches the MSFS process and send your profile to ODT via CLI interface and applies your preferences on the go hoping the timing is perfect. Sometimes it works sometimes not from my experience. In short if you find a way to disable the ASW perminantly you will get away with it but unfortunately you can't, at least I couldn't find one. One other solution is to use Virtual Desktop instead of Quest Link but VD cant utilize the USB link cable so unless you do not have a dedicated Wifi6 router you will not be able the achieve the same bandwidth as the Quest Link and if you do not have the proper bandwidth it will stutter like hell. But anyway great tip. I wish I have seen this before I spend hours and hours to fix the exact same problem. Thumbs up from me.

    TO get rid of the wobbly effect, turn off ASW when using any Oculus device. This has been the recommendation since the days of FSX and P3D. I never use it and never have the wobblies.....

  • @pilotguy27

    Thanks for the video. One point. I never purchase mods from the Marketplace for PC. The reason being is Microsoft/Osobo encrypts the data of the mods that are purchased in the Marketplace. This can affect other 3rd party programs. As an example, my ATC program uses Make Runways from the makers of FSUIPC. It creates tables of the relevant information for the aiports that are installed so that the ATC program can use the information when assigning gates, taxi instructions etc.. If an airport is bought through the Marketplace, Make Runways cannot see the revelvant information for any airport purchased through the Marketplace. Additionally, updates for purchased mods always come out before the Marketplace adds the updates to their system. These are just a few of the reasons why, in my opionion, one should always purchase their mods outside of the Marketplace. Just my opionion.......

    Does the tray tool work with windows 11?

    • @artificialaviation
      @artificialaviation 10 месяцев назад

      Thanks for reaching out @bigg1103! That’s a great question. I’ve been using Windows 10, so I don’t really have any experience configuring this on Windows 11. That said, I’ve checked the developers website (www.apollyonvr.com/oculus-tray-tool). According to them they’ve “only tested in Windows 10” and that “there have been reports of issues on Windows 11”. If you don’t want to risk it, then the alternative would be to use the in-built Oculus Debug Tool (developer.oculus.com/documentation/native/pc/dg-debug-tool/?locale=en_GB). This does the same job as the Oculus Tray Tool. In my opinion the debug tool is not as good as the tray tool. I find it harder to get the settings to apply and stick with the debug tool. Hopefully this helps you get a solution to any issues you might be having🤞May your configurations be short and your flight times be long! Happy simming 🛩️

    • @artificialaviation
      @artificialaviation 11 месяцев назад

      Hey @Stefboule1! Thanks for the feedback! I was just so relieved to finally sort it out. It had been bothering me for ages! I’d be happy to share my PC specifications with you 🙂 CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 5950X 16C/32T Memory: Corsair 32Gb DDR4 3600Mhz CL18 GPU: Powercolor Hellhound AMD Radeon RX 7900 XT (20Gb GDDR6) HDD: Sabrent M.2 NVMe PCIe Gen 4 SSD I have noticed that performance in the game, especially in VR can differ greatly between wide open spaces or high altitude flying and inner city, low altitude flying. When you think about it, it makes sense. Low to the ground, especially in cities, there is way more work for the system to do. I’ve noticed that the issue can be exacerbated at higher speeds as well. The faster objects on the screen move, the higher the frame rate and refresh rate needs to be to make that movement look smooth. One of the things I sometimes do, is reset my graphics to the lowest settings, and gradually turn everything up until I have a balance between performance and visual quality that I can live with. I hope you resolve the issue that you are having and can get back to enjoying the sim soon! 🤞🛩️

    I’m definitely late on this video and you may have picked this up already but a tip for approaches is to pitch for speed and power for altitude. FYI I’m not a real pilot just an experienced simmer and this is advice I’ve heard from watching countless hours of aviation RUclips videos.

    • @artificialaviation
      @artificialaviation 11 месяцев назад

      Hey @paulD427! Thanks for reaching out I’d say there’s never a bad time for some good advice! In fact, this is one of my goals for the videos I’ve been making. Airing my mistakes and journey as a learner so that others can share their advice and tips! I’ve learned, as you say here, to use pitch to control airspeed and to use the power to control altitude. This is something that hasn’t come naturally in the past. I’m constantly reminding myself of this rule though and it’s starting to sink in. I really appreciate the advice and stay tuned for more fun Artificial Aviation!✈️

    Turn off any motion reprojection ASW FSR or whatever the "fake frames" tech is called and you will have no glitches. Even the forced 45fps is another crutch that will show artefacts from time to time. Using Oculus link is difficult to turn off the native one of Oculus (asw) so try Virtual Desktop.

    • @artificialaviation
      @artificialaviation Год назад

      Hey @georgefaulk2528 Thanks for taking the time to give me feedback! I’m sorry to hear that you feel this way, and I want to seize the opportunity to improve the viewing experience. “To err is human”. I want to start by assuring you that it wasn’t my intention to mislead. I work hard to avoid clickbait titles, whilst generating genuine interest in the topic I’ll be talking about. That said, I’m still new at RUclips and making videos, and so I accept that there will be improvements I can make. This video, like with all of my latest ones, is equipped with chapters to allow viewers to jump straight to the answer or moments of importance to save time. At the beginning of the video, I mention the chapters, as a reminder to viewers that they are available. Finally, I also attempted, in the description, to mention that I use a Meta Quest 2 in the first line. This was all in the hopes of avoiding a situation like this one. I did anticipate that this solution itself might not work for everyone, even other Quest 2 users. To this end, I attempted to add other value in the video beyond just the solution. In sharing the troubleshooting tools and process as well as other techniques, such as how I settled my framerate. I had hoped that, even if the solution didn’t work for the viewer, they wouldn’t come away empty handed. Regardless, I want to make this as inclusive of a viewing experience as possible. Whilst I still believe that all VR users can get value from this video, I recognise it is important to allow people to make that determination for themselves. Therefore, by the time you read this, you should notice that I’ve updated the title to give people that choice. Thanks for watching and keep on simming! 🙂

    I want to take a moment to say a huge thank you to everyone who has watched this video, liked it and subscribed to the channel so far. This has been, by far and away, my most popular video yet. I’m still new at making videos, but I'm constantly learning and working to try to improve what I do. This kind of response energizes my passion and drives me to keep pushing to improve and learn. So, please fasten your seatbelts and return your tray tables to their locked and upright positions. Stay tuned, and I’ll catch you in the next exciting episode of Artificial Aviation!👍

    Nice Job! That sounded remarkably like me trying to solve a problem (minus the words "bonnet" and "chuffed" ("chuft?")). There's nothing quite like smacking your skull against a wall (or problem), and finally finding the answer. Sub Earned.

      We’ve all been there, right! This was a video I’ve been really eager to make. I was so “chuffed” (I use this to mean “happy” when "happy" isn’t quite.. enough) when it was fixed 😀 Thanks for subscribing and I hope you enjoy the videos to come! I’m just getting started 😉

    the glitchig is due Openxr, Instead try oculus tray tool

      Hello there fellow artificial aviator! Thanks for taking the time to share how you are set up. 🙏 True story, I am actually running with both tools right now. I did resolve the issue by tuning the ASW mode with the Oculus Tray Tool. I do agree it’s a good tool. I do use the OpenXR toolkit to help me monitor performance and tune the runtime. Typically, I also use it for configuring upscaling. I find it useful to display stats as I can access it without removing the headset 👍 I tend to use the Oculus Tray Tool to tune my encoding bitrate and resolution to the optimum levels. I like that it saves those settings for me! I’m curious, I know that you can use the visual HUD on the OTT. It has more details than the one in the OpenXR runtime, and, from that perspective can be very useful. That said, do you use the OTT for upscaling as well? Do you have the OpenXR toolkit installed at all? 🤔

      @@artificialaviation hi!!! thx for the replay. Since the arguments can be case/build sensitive, what works to you does not have to work with me, as we all know. I find best performance vs visual quality with ALVR. The most important things for me are Quality of cockpit (instrumentation and usualy gns750 or gns530/430) to be somehow readable and texture quality not to break Vram, both are limiting factor of my 2080 vram of 8Gb. OpenXR produces dose glitching (moving of parts of objects) and with Tray tool i can get rid of it to a certain level. Using only OTT without OPENXR gives me the best performance after ALVR. I do agree that OpenXR is useful with it's HUD, but once i tune up everything i get rid of it as soon as possible. Try ALVR! ALVR have to be installed on PC and on OQ2. On the Quest is instelled via sideloader, easy. The amount of tuning possibilities is enormous and can be time consuming but has it all. New version of ALVR uses SteamVR as streamer so must be used, older versions can go solo. Also shut down OpenXR and Oculus software

      if you can ever get it to download sure... and when it breaks? expect soul wrenching disappointment ,months of stress trying to fix it along with infinite download loops. it's like a spa day from hell.

      This problem had driven me nuts for weeks! I’ve been so busy flying and making videos that I didn’t take the time to look at it. I’m very glad that I finally did and now I can fly without all the wobbling! Thank you so much for your support!

    Normally I recommend disabling any form of Reprojection/ASW on any kind of simulator. The problem is that while you're moving, the vehicle or aircraft remains static in view while the world outside updates and the discrepancy between inside and outside is mostly visible at the edges of the windshield or windows - basically where the "static" part of the frame immediately transitions to the "dynamic" part. I usually had this problem with Euro Truck Sim 2 but any game where you're driving or piloting anything has this exact same problem.

      Thanks for sharing! This is an awesome explanation 👏 One of the things I love about RUclips is how learning can be crowdsourced. I had also read that disabling ASW was supposed to give the best experience. I think that’s why I didn’t consider right away that this was the problem. I was happy that Oculus Mirror picked it up so I could share what was going on. I’m curious, you mentioned that you had this issue with Euro Truck Sim 2. Did you resolve the issue the same way or via a different setting change?

      @valajonny9162 Год назад

      @@artificialaviation I fixed it the same way, I use Windows Mixed Reality so I disabled the Reprojection setting in SteamVR, but disabling ASW in Oculus/Meta fixes the issue just the same. Thankfully it's tied to the headset API, so you don't have to tinker with every sim or game.

    Keep consistency with uploads, some shorter format would do the trick and I can say that your channel will blow . Well done !

      Thanks for taking the time to give feedback and show love 👍 Telling me what you want to see, in this way, helps me make better videos. Hopefully it’ll translate into more of what you want to see 🤞 Coming up I’ve got two shorter videos back-to-back. I finally found the fix for that annoying graphical distortion I’ve been having. I’m going to be sharing how I fixed that. I’ve also got a video coming about how I went about planning a more realistic flight as a beginner! I’m trying to balance the shorter and longer videos as I’ve had feedback now that people like both. I’m still learning how to make those longer videos as entertaining as possible. Having done a few now I’ve got some ideas how to spruce up this format too. Thanks for watching and stay tuned for more Artificial Aviation!
