The poor recording quality is because it was made on a cassette recorder surreptitiously concealed in a bag!

Hi! Im looking for a gramophone part, i recently found my great grampas Decca, and its missing the sound box , the head thats reads the music, do you know where i can buy one? I really want to try it and see if it still plays music :) thank you :)
Hi - that part (the playing head) is called a "soundbox" in the UK and a "reproducer" in the US. Decca made lots of different soundboxes. It would help to know what model of Decca gramophone you have, and see photos of it, to try to figure out which soundbox it should have. You're welcome to send me an email and I might be able to help (go to the Burmese Colour Needles website that's listed on all my videos) - also you could join the Talking Machine Forum and ask there.
Tremendous! 😊❤
Brilliant 😊thanks
This is great & so seasonally funny! Spooky too, actually started sneezing at same time as George! Like the laughing clarinet toward the end. Every bit as good as 'Ain't It Grand To Be Bloomin Well Dead' but not as well known.
Many thanks Paul! A friend had a copy and I've been envious for years, then I found one myself!
A very impressive machine. Did you find a storage solution for these records eventually? I think I heard somewhere that stacking many of them is not good but at the same time I know that resting them somewhat upright at an angle leads to warping so they must be perfectly vertical. Then again I have seen collectors with huge collections where the records are stacked on shelves at about a dozen in each stack. What is the best way to keep them?
Thank you! I've always stored them on shelves approximately vertically. I don't think there's a problem either vertically or horizontally except perhaps in hot climates.
@@burmesecolourneedles4680 Thank you for your reply. I'd guess the worst way would be storing them at a pronounced angle where humidity and heat would accelerate any sagging. Of course individual companies recipes for shellac records might be an additional but probably lesser factor. Little matter: the main danger to the majority of shellacs nowadays is mailing them or people clearing up house.
In George Harriman’s Krazy Kat cartoons, Krazy often sings the opening line of this song. I did not know what song it was, or if it was just something Harriman made up. I know now. Thanks.
Amazing - thanks for commenting! I had assumed that this was a sort of copycat song (pun unintended) loosely following Leslie Sarony's Ain't It Grand To Be Bloomin' Well Dead - but hearing that, it may be the other way round - especially if this song has its roots in the States!
Ha, you found a copy
Ha, that was quick Alex! Yes eventually... 😁
@@burmesecolourneedles4680 I always thought the non-musical interludes sounded like Monty Python excerpts
Amazing
Glad you enjoyed it, thanks!
Oh yes they still make it. It's called Amphetamine Sulfate 5 & 10mg's Great song!
Indeed! Thanks!
No surface noise!
No indeed! Creamy smooth US Columbia laminated pressing, and a thorn needle... 😁
This gives me horn envy!
😁👌😁
This is brilliant, thanks. Would you consider more videos about the machines. Brands, features, original price, ect.
Thanks! Yes I intend to do that sometime. There are a few like that on my channel with some information about the machines - 'tour of Burmese House' and the first video of my EMG Mk VII if I remember correctly.
I’ve never heard anyone sounding like that. Thanks for sharing
One of the most influential bluesmen ever! 😁
Wow!!!! What a great sound! I had to look up what instrument a "batterie" is--Pierre fouad's' "batterie"! ("A set of purcussion instruments used by a single musician (drummer")). So is Hubert Rostaine..'s instrument the clarinet? One should not drink coffee before listening to this!! Thanks for sharing this! Its really amazing!!
When was this recorded
It's in the description 😁
Is this shellac?
Yes! Beatles disc made from bugs!
@@burmesecolourneedles4680Since its shellac, can you play it on an accoustic machine or will that murder the record?
Cool!!!
How wonderful to see this accompanied by one of the great train recording simulations. Jack Hylton's version is the best in my opinion and it is so well mated to this famous narrow-gauge railway video. Superb result and very many thanks to all involved.
Thanks Graham! We must go on it together one day!
@@burmesecolourneedles4680 100% !
Ausgezeichnet.❤
Danke!
Now that we have enjoyed this little skit, I would like to suggest that fellow members of the parish here present might like to share in the joy I felt when I discovered this version on a Dutch fairground pipe organ. ruclips.net/video/9oZLs9VG78s/видео.htmlsi=AagLQ1ZFfTdzCnCk
Brilliant! 😍
Good Job. 👍🏼
This is so amazing my friend 😊
Great share my friend!!
Can the guitar actually be played that fast? Is there another recording of this piece?
I don't know - it's incredible, isn't it! And Django only had two usable fingers on his fretting hand...
@@burmesecolourneedles4680 I didn't realise it was Django. Is he using fingers or a pick? I thought he was only using fingers. I can imagine how this would be possible to play this loud, this fast using fingers.
Incredible musicians :)
Absolutely! Thanks Paul! 😃
Love this orchestra my pal 😊
Thanks Ginny! 👌
Wow. Another great record. Such joy!
Glad you enjoyed it! 😁
Lovely. Here's the Edison version for comparison; Golden Gate Orch,/California Ramblers: ruclips.net/video/kyLq7a2F6R4/видео.html

Two wonderful voices! Thank you for sharing on the EMG!
My pleasure as always dear pal.
Such a great band - wonderful to hear on the Oversize EMG!
Yes indeed! 😁
There is something about the Mark VII's that I just love. They sound great - perhaps the straight horn? Anyway, great disc the flip side is a super Coon-Sanders tune!
Great record my pal 😊
Many thanks Ginny! 😊
Fabulous Bob Haring!
Crazy tune with wild lyrics!
