The consequences of the forest fires could be very diminished if we didn't have monoculture of Eucalyptus or Pine almost everywhere. But to change that it will be necessary decades and I don't think that any government will have the courage to take the necessary measures, because the paper industry is very strong in Portugal. To avoid so many ignitions we have to take other measures. There are a lot of pyromaniacs, and in part they are induced by the TV transmission of fires. Why have the TV's to transmit the live fires during hours? There is also a lot of neglect, but everybody seems to put the guilty in some secret organization of interests... The fires that started in September 2024 or October 2017 have in common the strong wind, and the majority in dense populated areas. I don't believe in a deliberated organized plan to set fire in dozens of places at the same time in several regions. It has to be other explanation, and I think that the explanation are the cigarre butts thrown out of the car windows and outer forms of neglect. Meanwhile what any individual can do is not to buy or build a house near Eucalyptus or pine, at least 20 meters away.

We have similar issues that will need to be resolved! Our house is a new build and we are now living in it. So our old address associated with the NIF is wrong. The house is not quite finished yet (a carport needs to be added) so it’s not registered yet! But as we are living in the house, we need to be able to call on emergency services if required or get deliveries etc. but with no addresses with a number, no one can find us! It’s Portugal though! Keep chill and have a beer or wine! 😂😂
