Kudos to Adam Sandler taking a controversial script knowing the reception, but giving a sweet ending that love and peace can conquer all conflicts. Marcellus was the closest thing Butch had to an actual Father. Although they came from different racial backgrounds and were raised in different States and circumstances, Butch feels the duty to aid the very man who gave him both the opportunity to make something of his fledgling career as a professional boxer and who later who tried to kill him due to Butch double crossing him for a big payday. Marcellus (a man much more powerful than Butch) could very easily have killed Butch for good measure after being rescued, but he obviously realized that Butch was honor bound to rescue him and would not betray such an honorable action despite what he had just endured. The kindness he shows to Butch is almost as heartfelt as Captain Koons handing the watch to young Butch after explaining what he (Koons) and Butch`s father, grandfather and great grandfather ensure their personal honor and legacy was maintained.
