Nimzo-Larsen vs a 2390!
Hey everyone! Hope you're all doing great. Continuing on my 2300 blitz grind here's a game I played against a 2390-rated opponent on lichess.org. We got into a highly tactical position with chances missed by both sides but I managed to secure the W in the end. Hope you enjoy and as always feel free to drop any feedback or comments down below :)

Hey everyone and happy Lunar New Year! Sorry for the lack of uploads lately - I've been busy prepping for a classical tournament (which I got 2nd in - full recap here: ruclips.net/video/x_2_4nOkx6k/видео.html) and this week has been a bit busy with work and new year festivities. Nonetheless we're back and I'm so excited to start this new series where I work on grinding to 2300 blitz on lichess....

Hey everyone! Sorry for the lack of uploads recently - I've been busy preparing for my first classical tournament in over a decade, which I'm so happy to present to you for today's video :) Over the 25th and 26th of January 2025 I played in the Australia Day Weekender Classical which was a 6 round tournament featuring many strong players, including 4 CMs, 1 FM and even 1 IM. keep doing the good work your good
He didnt use his horse
How would that work? Either way he’s up a horse after one of those moves
Hmm I'm not exactly sure what you mean - not sure how Black wins one of my knights here
The green one
The correct answer
cant he take take the rook again with a1 rook?
Yes! But then Black takes back with the e8 rook with mate
@@extravirginoliver what about pawn to e1? (also im a beginner im like 150elo)
@@dark_is_chad6569Naah you trolling us mate
@dark_is_chad6569 no worries! Good on you for starting your chess journey :) in chess pawns can only ever move forwards and since White's pawns start on the second rank it's not a legal move to move his pawns backwards to the first rank. To elaborate a bit on how pawns move, there are just a few things to remember: 1. Pawns begin on the second rank 2. Pawns move one square forward at a time 3. Except on each pawn's very first move it can choose to jump two squares so long as the square in front of it is not occupied 4. When an opponent's piece is diagonally adjacent to a pawn in its forward direction (e.g. if you have a White pawn on e4 and Black has a piece on either d5 or f5) the pawn is able to move diagonally to take (aka "capture") that piece (a pawn cannot capture by moving forward) 5. If one side moves a pawn two squares to a place where it is directly horizontally adjacent to the opposing sides pawn, the opposing side has the option (on this move only) to capture the pawn as if it had only moved one square forward instead - this is known as "en passant" (translation: in passing) 6. If a pawn moves all the way to the very last rank it has to be promoted to any piece (except a king or pawn) of that side's choosing (99% of the time a queen though on some occasions it makes sense to "underpromote" to another piece) It might seem like a lot to remember but that's just because it's hard to describe it in a purely textual format - I highly suggest watching some beginner RUclips videos (John Bartholomew is my go-to suggestion for beginners) or interactive lessons on either lichess.org or chess.com. Best of luck in your chess growth and feel free to let me know if you have any questions!
yo I saw your final standing and was just like wow! nice job. it's Alexi here btw haha
Thanks Alexi! I haven't played classical chess in over a decade so I had no expectations but I'm really happy with my performance :)
Congratulations 🎉🎉🎉
Thanks Aarush!
To those who are wondering if Nc3 is a checkmate it is not quz it blocks the bishop so it would look like this: Nc3 Ke5
BRILLIANT MOVE
Thank you kind stranger
we call that a bermuda mate
@@omeiga ahaha I just googled to see if this was a real thing and the AI suggested this: "Bermuda mate could refer to the mating display of Bermuda fireworms or a clothing line inspired by Bermuda."
hell nah lmao i play vrchat a lot and there's a dedicated chess world for it, 's how i fell back into playing chess more seriously, and i saw someone in a group call bermuda mates and general idea is the mate should form a triangle from the knight that moved from and to its new square connected with the two check lines, they named it after the bermuda triangle so i think it's cool and nifty :>
@omeiga no I actually love that I might have to steal it from you
do it man! it's all cool, if i run into ya on chess i'll make sure to give it all i got lol
You have 3 check mates in this position first is yours and another one with the pawn to d3 and one is the rock to f4
Pawn mate
Would have been cool too but I thought Nf6 double check and mate seemed more aesthetic haha
@@extravirginoliver no pwan check mate is cooler because it's the weakest piece
I'll dedicate my next pawn checkmate to you 🫡
@@Mhmh980iit's not a pawn checkmate e3 is hanging when you push d3. I mean it'll still be mate but not a pawn mate
the cut is killing me 😭

Does he know what he did before he did it
@Jett-x8l if by he you mean me then the answer is usually no but this time yes 🤠
@ good job cuz I said take the queen
Blud tried to remove fork, but blundered queen instead😂😂😂
Happens to the best of us 🙈
What is the background music?
I've been playing this lately -> ruclips.net/p/PLfP6i5T0-DkLXbx1xtfsVjbnH_Afbx-oK&si=WR3w8-8BbFPaNjgc but I'm putting together a playlist to get streaming licenses for so hopefully I'll have more of my own library in the near future!
When black played 👑b5 you could of skewer the king and take the rook and after king takes your rook, you promote
You're absolutely right haha I just didn't see it 😂
Freelunch! What team do you play for? (I play for indicheck which u might know about)
Hi! I'm not a part of any team at the moment haha but open to trying it out :) might also create my own team once I have a large enough audience to warrant it!
Nxc3 and d4 -+
Should've done that! That would have been so cool good find!
The bishop snipes again, And never takes credit.
The hero we need but don't deserve
Another way to checkmate black in this position is to move the bishop to f7 after rook g3 since black king moved to h8 which is a huge blunder to black. GGs!
That also would've been cool! I just thought Bg8 looked like an aesthetic move 😂
Accurate size depiction of the Pluto being smaller than the moon. However, the Jovian planets seem _too_ small. Jupiter should be 11 diameters of the Earth. Saturn should be 9 Earth diameters. Lastly, Uranus and Neptune should be 4 Earth diameters.
What?
Whoops, my bad. This comment was supposed to be in another short. Damn, RUclips's getting drunk nowadays...
This might be my favorite comment ever - congrats on being my first pin 🤠
nice
Thank you kindly 🤠
2400. Respectable
Thank you kindly 🤠
He should’ve promoted to knight with check making you have to waste time
Would've probably lost on the spot if he had haha
huh????
me during most of my games 😭
@extravirginoliver 😂😂
Instead of f7 u could da do g4 checkmate
Unfortunately Black can block with the pawn there but Rg8+! was pointed out by some other commenters because after Kxg8, Rg1# is mate! Super cool idea I didn't even consider
nah its not he can block with the pawn and it will be guarded by the knight
As pointed out by some other commenters, Rg8+! would have led to a pretty spectacular mate even though I didn't find it!
u had a brilliant rg8+
How???
@balancemaster55 it's a double check so rook can't take, after king takes rg1 is mate
That's such a cool idea haha I was so focused on the windmill I didn't even consider it tbh
Insane tactic!
Thank you!
What after e5??
I was planning Rxe7 exd4 Rxd7 in that case! Although it's a moot point since some other commenters pointed out that I actually had mate with Rg8+!
13:50 windmill
I actually missed a really spectacular Rg8+! which would have led to mate after Kxg8 (forced since double check) and then Rg1# (I can't claim credit for this - some commenters on my RUclips Short pointed it out)
You had Rg8 and Rg1#
Damn you’re right. What’s your elo? How long did it take for you to find that?
@polpot9869 i saw that before Nd7, i'm actually quite surprised he missed it
@@lubietruskawki870 dude that's so cool I didn't even see this looking back at it
Rg8+ would have been so good haha I guess I was just excited I had a windmill but that would have been so much better
yeah rg8+ is probably the only winning move, cause taking on f7 isn't even a successful windmill right? Knight/bishop blocks, e pawn blocks as well, and at the end material will become equal (excluding some pawns)
Sort of a windmill, but after the best moves from both sides, whites up a pawn in a rook endgame anyways. Nice!
Unfortunately all I could see at the time was the windmill but Rg8+ would have actually led to mate as pointed out by some other commenters!
DID YOU JUST CLEAR THE CLOSED POSITION😢😢😢?!
Boom goes the dynamite 💥💥
Should have sack the rook for mate
That would have been so cool haha unfortunately once I saw the windmill it was all I could see 🙈
Show the rest man bruhh xD
@@currentmood9568 all available on my channel if you click the play button above title of the video!
Did you even have to sacrifice your knight to do allat tho
That’s how he removed blacks knight to get that situation in the first place. If he didn’t sac the knight he can’t capture g7 since the rook wouldn’t be protected by the bishop on d4
Yes! The sac combines two tactics - a fork and deflection. The fork is between the Black knight and rook because the pawn on g7 is pinned so it's not actually defending the knight and deflection refers to making your opponent move his piece from a certain square where it's performing a job. In this case the knight is blocking my bishop from g7 so by deflecting it I'm removing the shield around Black's king so I can take on g7 with check :)
By the way. I wanted to ask 2 questions: First : What is your highest rating? Second : What is the story behind your channel name?
@AarushZala Hey! Thanks for the comment :) for 1 I don't have a FIDE rating though I might work on it one day and for 2 I just thought it was a clever play on extra virgin olive oil haha
@@extravirginoliverWhat about highest online rating of all time? The name is just funny and unique. I personally like it very much.
In regular chess i am rated approximately 1000. But once while playing atomic I got paired against an IM and a NM multiple times 1 day and I would go on to lose all matches that day.
@AarushZala Hahaha trust me I know the feeling I think my longest losing streak must have been something like 30 games or something when I was tilted
Nice

It was a robot not a titled player but it was probably Stockfish Level 5 so better than a CM and if Lichess is going to continue using random master titles for filler while sadistictuschi and the other 3 players who have special privileges (making money for the lichess mods) play each other 15 times in a row it’s only fair that you take credit for beating a CM 👍
Oh I'm not aware of this feature 😮 in any case I'm just happy I played a good game and won :) thanks for the comment! (btw I checked out your channel out of curiosity - really good stuff man!)
I might be wrong but it is a feature that a gm activated when I joined his arena 😆 if you ever want music let me know because having any good standing with RUclipsrs is in demand these days
