St. Joseph’s Church is a Catholic Church of Devotion. Its rich history extends to the early 19th century when Portuguese missionaries came to parts of South-east Asia. It is one of the oldest Catholic churches in Singapore & served as the headquarters of the Portuguese Mission in Singapore, established by Fr. Francisco da Silva Pinto e Maia of the Congregation of Priests of the Missions (the Vincentian or Lazarist Fathers). Formerly under the Portuguese Mission, the church was transferred to the Catholic Archdiocese in Singapore in 1981.

Initially a bastion of the Portuguese Eurasian community in Singapore, who contributed greatly to the building, life and activities of the church, it now attracts people of all races and languages. The Church was gazetted as a National Monument by the National Heritage Board of Singapore on 14th January 2005.

It is currently undergoing restoration works which commenced in 2017.
