      Wasn't familiar with the term. For anyone who isn't A gyppo or gypo logger is a logger who runs or works for a small-scale logging operation that is independent from an established sawmill or lumber company.

    I used to operate the old Lull machines way back in the late 70’s and early 80’s. I thought they were pretty good overall. I don’t believe we had too many issues concerning reliability. I do recall a very dangerous structural failure that happened with one of these machines. A coworker was lifting a full cube of 12 inch block up to the third level of scaffolding when suddenly the frame of the machine fractured completely. The cube of blocks ended up behind the machine after the secondary boom section collapsed backwards. Thankfully no one was injured. That could have been a really bad accident. The machine was sent to the scrap yard after my boss removed some valuable parts.I just want to mention another construction type high lift machine from back in the 70’s & 80’s. The brand name was Pettibone, and they were a big rival to Lull. Pettibone is actually still in business and they manufacture some very impressive telehandler machines.

      @mountainfarmer8766 12 дней назад

      this Lull definitely has had some cracks welded on the structure and I do not lift anywhere near it's rated capacity. After this job I plan on scraping most of this Lull and upgrading to a newer lull maybe 90s lol. I'm going to keep the Oliver tractor and the fork lift mast and hydraulic parts. This thing is definitely dangerous to operate!

      @@mountainfarmer8766 Thanks for your reply. I just wanted to let you know about a very good telehandler that was built by Hyster from about the mid 80’s to the mid 90’s. The model is the Z90,Z90B, and Z90C. My boss purchased a brand new Z90 in the mid 80’s. I was the main operator and I put a couple of thousand hours on that machine. The machine had a maximum capacity of 9,000 lbs. Max lifting height was 37 feet. Could handle 6,000 lbs. @ that height. The Z90 had a 23.5 foot forward reach ( from the front of the tires to the center of the four foot forks ). The machine was very compact and featured 4 wheel drive and a 3 speed transmission with low & high range. You might want to see if you can find one for sale. The only thing you would be missing compared to any Lull machine would be the trans-action boom. The patented system from Lull has always been a really nice feature of their high lift machines. I remember operating a Lull in the 90’s that had a 7 foot or forward reach using the trans-action feature. It’s a great feature for both safety and productivity.Best of Luck with your future upgrade.

    I had an old bullnose Ford with a rotten cab. Rotten enough that it sat on the shift linkage, and would no longer go into park, and therefore wouldn't start unless you felt ballsy enough to jump the solenoid with the truck in gear. Never should have gotten rid of it, but I kept the drivetrain out of it, minus the axles. My old man's 6.0 Chevy ruined a connecting rod, and that's just sitting. May have to convince him to let me take that thing and cobble one of these together! Our family used to have an old Ford doodlebug back in the 60s, unfortunately that's long gone. Awesome piece of equipment you made!

All the adults said (we use to drive it around the forest as kids). Hahahaha.. What fabulous story's they told of the old doodlebug. That is how i learned what a doodlebug was in the first place. • @mountainfarmer8766
      @mountainfarmer8766 7 месяцев назад

      Yeah but it gets the job done! you can cut a 48-in tree with a 24 inch bar and a 55cc saw. Those guys that carry a 3ft blade and a 120cc saw for cutting down a 2ft diameter tree are idiots.

    • @dfkustom8
      @dfkustom8 7 месяцев назад

      there is a midway between 54&120 lol but it goes really well with a 100cc saw and 32-36'' bar to cut a redwood, or a cedar of 5,6,7 feet in circumference like in the American or Canadian west... 🤓 I know very well that you fought with your saw to cut that tree... I wouldn't have done better than you but I would find myself a 70cc or 80cc to give my 54 a break... It might get too hot and seize one day..🤷🏻‍♂️👍

    Hey good job. Got into timber framing for fun and I love it! Looking to do something similar (on a smaller scale). That 1st floor span seems huge! How much is it and if you could tell what sizes are posts and beams there (8x8” and 8x12”?) I’m looking to make a modified Will Beemer cabin, make it larger (20x24) so looking for 20’ clear span if possible. Cheers from Croatia!
