Boards of Canada - Wildlife Analysis (Ableton Recreation)
Was listening to Wildlife Analysis recently and it stuck out to me that the background sample sounded a lot like the Alphaquest song. Turned out it was indeed it, so thought i'd give this great track a shot. Vsts used are Tal-Audio SH101, Arturia CS80, XLN Retro Color, Tritik Krush, Waves JL37. Sorry about the audio not playing during the Alphaquest section, only realized it wasn’t recording after posting. Link to the sample below (I sampled the very first few seconds of the video).

Boards of Canada - Sherbet Head (Ableton Live Cover/Recreation)
Просмотров 886Год назад
Decided to recreate this great little interlude track of Campfire Headphase. Pretty simple repeating chord progression, but a nice exercise in effect chaining. Main flute patch is from Arturia's CS80, and then resampled into Ableton's Sampler. Much of these effects are just Ableton's filters and autopan, with heavy LFO automation/mapping and lots of effect chaining. Other effects and synths use...
Boards of Canada - Olson (Ableton Live Recreation / Deconstruction)
Просмотров 2,9 тыс.2 года назад
I've already done a live cover of this favorite Boards of Canada track, but I thought i'd share a quick video of my Ableton project with more accurate patches/parts. I used U-He Diva for the main pad and lead, Ableton's Wavetable for the sub bass, and Spitfire Labs for the piano patch. I forgot to show it in the video, but the master channel has an instance of Waves J37 tape simulation with a b...
Boards of Canada - Olson (Version 3) (Ableton Live Remake/Part Walkthrough)
Просмотров 1,2 тыс.3 года назад
Here's my best attempt at remaking Boards of Canada's Olson (Version 3) from the July 1998 Peel Session. After stumbling upon a CS-80 flute patch that instantly reminded me of the main lead from this version, I had to take a stab at this one. VST's used are Arturias CS-80 for most of the synths, TAL-BassLine-101, and Ableton's Wavetable. Also used XLN's RC-20, Valhalla Vintage Verb, and probabl...
Boards of Canada - Sundown (Cover)

Here's my cover/recreation of Boards of Canada's "Sundown" of their 2013 album Tomorrow's Harvest. Its one of my favorites off the album, and I had a lot of fun creating this super simple, yet powerful sounding patch. I used Ableton Live's Wavetable, Valhalla Vintage Verb, XLN RC-20, the Max for Live LFO to create the patch. Happy to make a video of me creating the patch within Ableton if multi...
Radiohead - How to Disappear Into Strings (With Vocals)
Просмотров 58 тыс.3 года назад
After hearing the amazing isolated strings version of "How To Disappear Completely" off the recent Kid A Mnesia release, I decided to add Thom's vocals over the strings. Sorry for the horrible vocal audio quality, its the best I could do!
Boards of Canada - ROYGBIV (Ableton Recreation + Walkthrough)
Просмотров 22 тыс.3 года назад
I've already done a live recreation of ROYGBIV, but after coming across the "Lake!" sample from Sesame Street, I thought i'd take a stab at making a recreation that was more accurate. After hearing the Sesame Street episode that the "Lake!" sample came from, I had a hunch that the little melodic trill used in ROYGBIV was taken from the same episode. After tons of sample searching, playing aroun...
Boards of Canada - Peacock Tail (Live Cover)

Haven't seen anyone really do any covers for any tracks of Campfire Headphase except for Dayvan Cowboy so I decided to give this one a shot. Everything apart from the drums/vocal fx are played live and then looped. Drums are preprogrammed and then triggered via the push. Used mainly Ableton wavetable, kontakt, omnisphere layered with arturias CZ-V for the choir pad, and the digitakt layered wit...
Boards of Canada - Moment of Clarity (Live Recreation)
Просмотров 4,1 тыс.4 года назад
Got excited the other night when I came across a song that sounded like it could be the sample from "Moment of Clarity" of Campfire Headphase. I loaded it into a couple of samplers, added some fx with lfos, and this is what I came up with. Minilogue is just being used as a midi controller to play the notes and control two filters. Original song the sample is from is "Foreign Affairs" by the Man...
Boards of Canada - Roygbiv (Live Cover) Minilogue / Digitakt

Here's another live Boards of Canada cover, this time its "Roygbiv" off of Music Has the Right to Children. I am using the korg minilogue for the main flute lead, digitakt for drums, and a couple other vsts for layering. Only thing sampled from the original is the kids voice. Enjoy! Here’s a link below also to the Ableton Project video I made for ROYGBIV after I found the Sesame Street samples ...
Boards of Canada - Olson (Live Cover)

Live cover "Olson" by Boards of Canada (from Music Has the Right to Children) I think I finally perfected my cover of Olson. Took me a long time to get the synths and effects dialed in, but I think I did a decent job of capturing the spirit of the original track. Enjoy! On a side note, I offer private music production lessons via Zoom, where I am happy to teach these production techniques. Feel...

Just a short little improv of BOC's Open the Light, played on my midi controller, using a custom patch I made within Ableton Live ;)

Please Read: For the Tutorial skip to 2:30 As Air is one of my all time favorite bands, with this also being one of my favorite piano songs, I finally decided to make this video/tutorial after not seeing one. I found a transcribed sheet however it was not as accurate as I hoped, and it was also had some parts which weren't really playable, so I ended up just figuring it out and playing it my ow...
It's amazing how close the lead and the piano (I love that piano, I listen to it over and over) are to the original. Bravo! It must have been hard work
I'm not here.......this isn't happening....I'm not here.......I just want to disappear...completely

Very nice!
give me a week
Great arrangement, sheet music or a score?
Really excellent job. That "atmospheric lead" in Roygbiv is one of the stand-out sounds across all of Boards of Canada's music to me and I have been wondering about it for a little while. The drums I think are a tad louder and brighter here than in the original track, which I myself do all the time as someone who was originally a drummer, but other than that this is nearly indistinguishable.
Really good cover pal :)
I wish we were friends and you taught me how to do this.
Pretty based!
That's totally what they sampled. Incredible find
Very good👍🏻

Your‘e an amazing human being :)
hi
Beautiful
Love this so much.
Incredible.
are you using pedal?
Oh my god. Absolutely fantastic work!11!!!!1!
With how much AI has progressed in the last couple years, I'd like to see what an updated version of the vocals would sound like!
so incredible, where did you get the drum sounds from??
@@kaisynerd123 the drum sounds are just a collections of one shots from all over. A couple of the sounds were my own foley recordings I believe
This is fucking brilliant. Well done mate.
Je ne me lasse pas de vous regarder jouer ce chef d'oeuvre 🤗
great job bro
Wow. That’s absolutely perfect. And played live beautifully.
Perfect! how did you know that was a Sesame Street sample??
@@drubber007 the “lake!” sample was documented before as being from that episode. I had a hunch that the “trill” sound was from the same episode and got lucky in finding it.
@@Psilocy-ben Again mate, great work! How long would you say it took you to get to grips with Ableton? I'd love to start using it as I have so many ideas for making music.
@@drubber007 thanks! I was able to start making tracks pretty quickly in Ableton, but definitely took some years to get very comfortable and to be able to create the sounds I wanted. There’s still a lot about the program I don’t know/utilize I’m sure.
It's weird; the BOC Wiki used to say it was a reversed sample of a child saying "yeah" and I just never questioned it in the past 11 years, until I saw this. Great work.
@@danem2215 Skills indeed.
Great cover mate. And love your channel name...brilliant!
Very, very good 😊 Sounds just about identical to the original 😊 what keyboard did you use?
It was after experiencing burnout and a severe depersonalization crisis the previous month that I realized this sound was actually a call for help.
Seriously brilliant work on this classic track Psi !
Crushing it…good work. 👍🏻
Incredible work
Incredible, all in one take 😅 you are amazing ❤

The Kid A Mnesia Exhibition has the stems to this song in its files, so you could easily put together a version of this with cleaner vocals
Impressive to see done live!! Very cool
I was just playing this and my 16 year old son yelled out, “ Is that Peacock Tail?” He has great taste in music, just like this cover version is great.
Bless your son. I love him.
Someone my age liking boc, that’s pretty rare lol
Hey, we're out there. It's "LoFi chill beats to relax to" for people who like Aphex Twin.
You've raised your son well! :)

BRAVO!!!!
PETITION TO MAKE THOM RECORD NEW VOCALS FOR THIS VERSION!!!
this song does something to me that other songs cant
Wow! Incredible. Gave me goosebumps like the original. Hat's off.
I felt this in my soul.
Amazing recreation, well done
pretty much perfect.
When we grew up in grade school, there was a short class when we would all sing together to a rummydumb piano that was old and not tuned properly, but it actually made it sound awesome.
Amaaazing 🎉

fcking amazing!
