Fat Jockey Podcast - Festive Recap - Part 1 - Novice Chasers
I'd rate Monksfield higher but what's a great generation.
what an amazing array of talent in this race. Great names, Great memories. The races that all these horse had won and went on to win. Is this not why we love the sport?😁😁😁
I think the ambulance was for the vocalcords....
Nearly all the horses that contested this Gold Cup were top- class chasers.
First bet on Aintree Rhyme and Reason brilliant horse 🐎 👌
I remember it being a surprise when Lomond won that Guineas at 10/1 or so. It probably wasn't a vintage running but he won it very easily indeed. As noted below, he was a half-brother to Seattle Slew and a son of Northern Dancer, the greatest sire of the last century. I was hoping that Dieses would win but his injury-ravaged preparation ruled that out and he may not have been as good as the superb two-year-old he was the year before.
why is lescargot so underated , his acheivements are immense
Not underated , people are overating him now ,he was beaten an awful lot and well beaten at that .
Just seen that again after all these years. My brother was a form student having studied Andy Beyer and Nick Mordin. Speed ratings. He said that beast should go close in this. I lumped a pound on at 500/1. Touch.
my first ever Derby winner great horse and there was more too come after the derby
A truly spectacular victory terrible commentary as per usual from Goode
The Dikler and Ron Barry what a great duo
What about Jimmy Uttley?
A race horse in England was called oil beef hooked but the racing authorities made the owner change it's name !
🐎💨
Very funny
Tracey Bailey gives Norman a congratulatory kiss and John Francome says she looks stunning. She ended up having an affair with both.
Any footage of Skymas Champion Chase wins?
He gave lumps of weight away in handicaps , on occasions three stones , bottom weights were 9 stone 7 pounds in those days , yet still beat his opponents out of sight , as in the Irish Grand National , how anyone can question he was the greatest steeplechaser ever is beyond me. Simply the best.
Roddy Owen was ridden by Bobby Beasley , he went on to win the Grand National on Nicolaus Silver and a further Gold Cup on Captain Christy .
Frankel was whipped hard 4 times on his Guinneas. Who did Frankel beat.
Frankel's Guineas opponents were a very poor crop. 1 Group 1 winner subsequently.
Great Days, go on Quinny
My personal favourite all time hurdler , triple Champion Hurdle winner , he also lumped huge weights successfully in top class handicap hurdles , he was so game , his front running catch me if you can style , simply unforgettable brilliant horse .
He was a fantastic hurdler , three Champion Hurdles , and he carried massive weights successfully in top handicap hurdles , my favourite all time hurdler , obviously Arkle favourite all time chaser .
Bula. What a horse. Too often over looked, a proper NH great.
amazing field, all great names!
Amazing and such a self effacing man.
Does anyone know what happened to French Tan after this race. Don't recall him running at all in the 71 or 72 seasons and was only 8 in 1970
Had a good bet on hot spark trained by dermot weld ,looked beaten but Lester got him up.
She dawn run made history in winning the champion hurdle and the gold cup and i don't think that they will be another horse that will win the champion hurdle and gold cup again.she was a very special talent 🙏
What happened to glencaric la in
Has to be one of the best winners of the 1000 guineas ever.
I came too soon , was in front a stride after the post !
I remember monksfield and seapigeon 2 brilliant horses RIP 🙏 😢❤you gave us good times back then along with all the other great horses 🐎
Great horse but 5lbs superior to Constitution Hill.... i don't think so !
Riddem by a master
We don't see this often enough. Just 6 years old winning the gold cup. The camera work a bit strange at the end.
Miccirek n frankom tommo mgrath morning line had it all great start on sat mornings 😅
This was the greatest field ever assembled for a hurdle race according to the ratings 4 of the top 12 hurdlers of all time were in this race. night nurse. monksfield, bird's nest. and sea pigeon. plus the likes of beacon light and dramatist both of whom would have been good enough to win champion hurdles in in other eras.
Monster horse
Wetherby lad legend
Spanish steps what a horse
Ron Barry great jockey
i remember backing night nurse that day because of the heavy rain the price went from 4/1 to 9/1 great horse
I had forgotten the Brigardier beat Mill reef. Wasn’t supposed to be. derby stayer, but he did win the king George as a 4 yr old
No way stood down nowadays
😂😂😂😂😂
Captain Christy was pretty special too. If my memory serves me correctly, the Captain reversed places next time, with Easby Abbey_ when he won the Scottish champion hurdle.
Arkle is the all time greatest steeplechaser , Mill House was a great horse in his own right in an era of top chasers with Pas Seul and Rondetto and top jockeys , we will never see another horse like Arkle , we were just so lucky to have had him.
Birds nest beginning to get up 🤡 O’Sullivan at his brilliant best ! How on earth did he keep that job as long as he did ? 🤷♂️ 👍🏴
My great grandad was buried that day.. I'm his first grandson. David.. I was 1 yrs old. My uncle said to all the men at the funeral to club together an put it all on davey lad as it was an omen.. it paid for the funeral plus many more days
