    This video stopped me from getting one of those collapsible tables. I’ve been using my idea collapsible dining table and keep my machine in the top rack of my rolling cart and then put that in the storage closet. Saved me like $200. ❤ this game me some great ideas on how to use what I have and maximize my apt space!

    Sew many good ideas. Inside a drawer I have an old foam ring display from a jewellers. It holds my sewing machine feet . Resting inside the drawer is the change drawer from a cash box. Luckily just the right size so I can slide it towards the back when I need to get my feet.sewing machine ones 🤣🤣🤣

    For the last twenty years or so, I have been using a tackle box to keep a lot of my notions. There are various sizes of tackle boxes, so this works great. For most of what I sew, I actually iron on my chest freezer. It is a big one and we have it on dollies, which raises the height a little. A folded towel helps protect the freezer surface, although I also have a small fold-up mat that I try to keep the ironing on for added protection. If you have a large quantity of fabric that will drape over the edges (like a maxi skirt or a large length of yardage you want to iron before you cut it) I prefer my standup ironing board, but otherwise it does the trick. I do want to invest or buy a tailor's ham, and I think if I had a length of that wool mat I could cut to the size of my freezer's top, that would greatly enhance its usefulness.

    My space saving things for those of you who have toddlers: I have a soft mat that connects as squares on the kitchen floor, about 5x7 feet, so my toddler can crash on the floor safely. I decided to use this to my advantage. Yes, I cut and trace things out of the floor, but I’m using the mat to pin fabric to when my toddler is sleeping. I also slip my cutting mat underneath, and no one sees or plays with it all day, until I pull it out to use. My next tip is a fabric mat to sew on. There are good patterns on Etsy that show these multi-layered fabric mats, with a side pocket hanging down. I made my mat about the length of my table and 1/2 the width. I made multiple pockets that hangs down off the mat to my own personalization (it is L shaped and one side hangs off the mat. I put all essential sewing items in this part with my sewing machine on top. Then when I’m done with it, I take off my machine and the mat folds up perfectly into a rolled-up mat, I clip either end so it doesn’t unroll, with all your essential supplies hiding inside. The pockets double for a safe space for sharp objects your toddler won’t see: needles, scissors, and rotary cutters. All you have to do is add Velcro to top of pockets to close them. I made my fabric mat 3 layers thick and it is nice and heavy to hold all the supplies off the table in pockets. You can also sew a little bin off the side of the mat near where you sew for scraps and thread. It will also fold right up with your mat. -I took a magnetic pin holder and used detachable 3M tape to attach it to my sewing machine, so I have a space for all my pins to be while I’m sewing and I don’t have to worry about my toddler finding them. The pin magnet stays with my machine at all times, but I can pull it off if necessary. So now I just have to pull out my machine and mat, and bring it to the kitchen where the floor mat is with my cutting mat hiding underneath. I keep all my fabric in a tote and extra supplies I don’t use regularly in another tote, in a closet. It isn’t ideal, but it does work well when you have a small space with a toddler.

    I have never had a dedicated space for sewing/crafting. I have used a TV tray to put my sewing & overlocker on to sew when I lived in a 1 bedroom apt in my younger years with no kitchen table. Currently I have a husky adjustable workstation in my bedroom which is my work from home (1 day a week desk, sewing & crafting desk. 1 drawer is for sewing tools, the other is for office supplies & I have a power strip attached to the side for all my power needs. I use magnetic hooks for my acrylic rulers & a caddy that attaches to my desk for quick access sewing & writing utensils. My sewing machine (Bernina B590) is stored in a closet. I have two crop n store totes on wheels (scrapbooking totes) the XXL stores my overlocker & the other stores my additional sewing notions in stackable snapware containers. My thread is stored on a shelf in a closet in Sulky containers as well as Artbin for my overlocker & embroidery thread. My Stellaire embroidery machine is stored in its luggage in the guest bedroom closet with all my hoops (Dime magnetic ones) in the luggage. My bobbins are also in artbin in the luggage. I have 6 large Olfa cutting mats that are stored under my bed in the original packaging along with all my other mats. I tape my Olfa mats together on the dining room table to cut large garment projects, the kitchen island for smaller projects & my husky desk for even smaller cutting needs. I have a Polder ironing board I use with my Rowenta SteamForce iron for my big needs. I have a wool mat & Oliso mini iron for my small needs that can sit on a silicone mat next to my Bernina. Finally I have a cedar chest in my bedroom for my fabric stash & an armoire for overflow, to do mending projects & finished items I’m selling.

    I too have a small space (my dining room) I have a small desk off to the side for my piecing station but when it’s time to machine quilt, I pull the dining room table flush with the desk so my quilt has room to spread out and not drag towards the floor. I use a see through plastic stackable drawer system from Amazon to store all of my threads to keep them dust free but visible for selection. I use see-through stackable cases to store individual projects on-the-go. Someday I hope to actually have a separate room to spread out but this works great for me now ☺️

    Thank you for making a video for people with almost no dedicated space for sewing. Almost no videos out there actually show how to work with a limited and transient space. Most are showing a more permanent space, and more often an entire room. Thank you!

      @CoralCoModernSewing 6 месяцев назад

      Thank you so much for taking the time to comment. I agree it is hard to find useful information about sewing in a non permanent space but I think that is how the majority of people sew. Kitchen table sewing is my favorite!

      It's incredible how much space some people have to put over to sewing and crafting. We did a whole house declutter and minimalism and I emptied out a spare room I was using for sewing. I never really enjoyed working in there because it was upstairs so I just decluttered it all and now sew downstairs on the dining table. I store my stuff in a closet near the dining room. It's a relief to have a lot less stuff to "manage" and now I'm buying for each project since using up/donating my stash. I have a dedicated container for cut pattern pieces if I need to clear the table. This video was great in showing how pleasant and spacious you can be with minimal amounts of gear and notions. Decluttering is key. ❤❤ I just found this channel, she's delightful. 😊

    My sewing space is the smallest bedroom in our house. I love it! It’s tiny but I manage. Sewing machine table from thrift store and cutting table is folding table from Walmart. I have 2 pieces of furniture with shelves to arrange things on . Also under cutting table I can store my scrap fabric and my tracing paper scraps. I have round tall plastic container for my interfacing & roll of tracing paper. My sewing room really needs a good cleaning and decluttering but it will just have to wait.
