GAIBX bungee change

Vintage aeroplanes like the Auster have a bungee system for suspension. Loops of bungee, best part of 1 inch thick, stretched over steel pegs...rubber loops that feel like steel themselves when new. This little video shows how you they are replaced every so often.

A bit of fun. I sat the TT Corsair 2 next to the Elecraft K2 and tried to determine which was the better rig. Yeah. Right. I came away thinking the TT pipped the K2 to be honest but I doubt it's a contest many will really care about. So long as it's fun.

      How long are the two poles? I gather they need to hang vertically and my roof space is not sufficiently high for me to stand up (I'm 5'6"). If I remember rightly, the maximum distance from the loft floor to the apex is about 4'6". Thanks M0IDS

    So much of why we like radios is subjective. How they sound and look for instance. But in every imperical way, Elecraft outperforms ten tec. I had an Omni D series B and the original Orion. I think the only radio that comes close but no cigar to Elecraft is the Omni VI. Best receiver they made. What were Ten secs good at? Best QSK of their time Some of the first solid state rigs Great CW Rig What were their deficits? Noisy synthesizers Stability issues AGC pumping Marginal final amp protection Let's face it, what makes a great radio is a great receiver. Comparing internal speakers is useless. And the K3 is really a better comparison, but the K2 is a better receiver as well. Elecraft has Better blocking dynamic range from down conversion design Every bit as good QSK with PIN diodes, designed, like ten tec, by CW enthusiasts More stable Quieter synth Lower IMD on the audio amp And the Yaesu DX10 and DX101D are even better than that. They will continue to receive a signal being blasted by a strong adjacent signal long after the Ten Tec RX melts. That's why Sherwood rates by BDR. It is a game changer to have a BDR radio. I would like to own a Ten Tec again for nostalgia, but not for performance. They are just nice radios and very simple to operate. Direct sampling is the future and is already passing superhet design in every measure.

    I don't think it's a fair comparison. 10 W QRP to 100 W QTH rig. The TT is twice the size, and it is not twice the rig IMO. Both are good radios though. Makes me happy I have one of them.

  • @captlarry-3525
    @captlarry-3525 Месяц назад

    Ten Tec was just better than the operators ...the gear is so incredible, it took decades for anything to duplicate it's performance. Today you can buy an FT-991 which is a decent rival of the Orion II, smaller almost as cheap to buy. But hey..it took 25 years.

    👍Corsair 2 is still a formidable CW rig. Break in on CW still puts some modern rigs to shame. Sacrilege perhaps but I modified mine with a DDS VFO kit to make it more stable and provide dual VFOs for split. With no internal fans and rated at 100W/100% duty cycle, it can be more pleasant to operate than some modern rigs.

    Hi David, I thought that it was a good time to give you an update on how I have got on with the 100W version of your 80-10m ended antenna that I bought from you in 2020. I moved to a bungalow in a village on the Lizard after living in a loft conversion in Falmouth, with no ability to use outdoor aerials. I was convinced that an end-fed half-wave dipole was the way to go, in my new small garden and saw this video of your offering and decided to buy one. Well, I have been using it in an inverted-L configuration, with the vertical part supported with a DX Commander fibreglass pole and the horizontal section supported by two poles (one in the middle of the garden, now with 4 m vertical on top) and one at the end of the garden, both fitted with marine pully blocks so I can lower and raise the aerial easily. Your aerial has been a great success and I have made contacts on many bands, including four in Australia (last year and Friday, 21 January this year). I have good success on 80, 40, 20, 17, 15 and 10 metres with it and the only issue I found was a tuning one on 80 m; Using an antenna analyser, I found that I could either optimize the length after the loading coil to cover the cw (lower) portion of the band, or the upper (LSB) portion, but not both. Well, I made a simple fix using a couple of "chocolate blocks" - I have a red wire that I can connect between them for upper 80 m portion, or black wire for CW portion; it might not be very elegant, but it works well! Anyway, even though your antenna was really designed more for portable use and I have had to repair it a couple of times (we get occasional very strong winds here - 50 mph plus), it has given me excellent service, so a big thank you! My friend G4SEN recorded my last Australian contact, so I have posted a video that he made of it (and also linked it on my QRZ page). You might like to watch it here: ruclips.net/video/5fj6OYPfiag/видео.html Thanks again and kind regards, Richard G4WKW.

I know in the good old days it wasn't recommended for petrol cars because if the points happened to be closed you could burn out the coil. No idea about modern cars with electronic ignition though. I would have thought a diesel would be OK, but perhaps someone with knowledge of such things could enlighten us? 73
