Is speeding ludicrously a hobby?
What’s causing this?
Took my 2000 Mazda B4000 (4.0 V6 OHV) (5R55E transmission, I think) to the mechanic. He said nothing is wrong with the engine.
This is what happens when I try accelerating to merge onto the freeway.
The mechanic thinks that this means transmission rebuild/replacement, but wanted to throw it out there and get opinions.

Probably has nothing at all to do with having a vehicle with 154,000 miles on it and you beating the crap out of it.
Catalytic converter might be plugged but it akso could be oil sludge blacking parts of your engine. Might only need an engine flush
Before getting it to a mechanic check the shift stick, it is very common that in those rangers/Sport Trac/Explorer some bushings get busted and it will show you are in (D) gear, however, your trans could be selected on (2). Have fixed a couple of those trucks with the same issue with no need of dropping the trans. Hope it’s usefull
The Main symptom is having a LOOSE SHIFT STICK, when in gear it sould NOT jiggle, move or bounce.
Is that floored at the 10 second mark? because if it is the truck is WAY down on power. And being down on power will keep the trans from shifting properly. Not enough information here.
appears to be stuck in 2nd gear, either trash in valve body or something inside it broken. See a Transmission shop as soon as you can. Just changing the filter and fluid may not fix it.
Must be the transmission slipping. Mechanic may be right
Could be a bad transmission control module, check the fluid but to me it looks like it’s maybe the clutches inside the trans are not getting enough pressure I would say it’s the trans itself it doesn’t even look like it’s getting into another gear. Stupid idea check your shift indicator and cycle P,R,N,D,2,1 could be that you are actually in 2 and it will only shift 1-2 just cycle it’s a stupid idea but worth that you may accidentally be in 2. I had a 10th gen f-150 id always screw up D and 2. Other than that the trans itself might just be bad.
I agree with the others, something is stopping the transmission from shifting into a higher gear. You could try changing the transmission fluid as a last-ditch effort, but considering the age and mileage of the truck the transmission could be dead.
Seems like the transmission isn't shifting yeah. Hopefully it's just wiri g or something. Maybe an issue with the valve body. Either way that's where you're headed. Wishing you luck and hoping the whole thing doesn't need rebuilt
Bad trans not shifting from what I see
