Upgrade your Leopold Bench into an Elegant Bench
Newbie ,liked how you put a line fown middle. I cannot get the depth right they are stacked..maybe by Christmas..😮
I used maple for the body. Hard wood turns easier than a soft wood like pine.
As a newbie , i am working on many small kits from Rockler/woodcraft. I enjoyed video, calm, easy to follow, no music. Great!!
Thank you for the compliments. Welcome to the wonderful world of woodworking. Start early on recording your projects and share your work.
Nice job replicating the center piece. However you forgot the top and bottom tabs that fit into the mortises in the top and mid rails. As seen in the video, this is how it was originally made. And would have been the proper way to assemble/restore it. Epoxy on a butt joint is not a suitable or durable joint. It seems as though you at least used dowels on the bottom which may help some. I was also sad to see the original seat cushion base ruined. It could have been easily recovered, keeping the original label in place and the chair looking original.
Thanks Jason for your comments and concern. I had to rewatch the video to refresh my memory on how and why I restored this chair. I did discuss with the owner as to why I used the seat to replicate the back design. The width of the design was the same width as the seat board. I could not match this width with present day plywood. It would have been ideal to use a mortise or dowels to secure the center piece. You are right about this. But it just wasn’t possible. I would have had to remove the top cross board in order to place the center piece into the groove. And that just wasn’t possible without breaking the joint. That’s why I made a very tight fit. I thought about using wood glue but with the end grain that would not work. Epoxy is better with end grain. Thanks for watching and your comments. Nice to exchange woodworking ideas.
The plan was to use the seat as the back since it was the same wood and same size. Unfortunately the wood was old and chipped when it was cut. We have the 3 other chairs that have the original labels so it was not a bad idea to do it the way Mike did it. My family was very happy with the reconstruction that Mike did.
Nice job sir…really!
Thanks for the kind response.
I tried a scroll saw today. Not sure how you are able to make such tight curves.
Hi Mike! Tight turns dependS on type of blade you use. I think I was using an 18.5 TPI. It’s pretty narrow so that helps making the tight turns. Hope that helps.
Had to experiment a few times to refine the image.
Good idea!
Glad you think so!
These look so nice! I want one for my tree :)
Great and easy project, thanks for sharing !
Glad you like it!
Don’t understand how the inlay gets closer around the face. Its magical
Great suggestions!
Thanks for watching!
Cute and exquisite. Delightful gift. Thanks, NCWwoodworker for this instructional video!
I love it!!
Beautiful! These are truly cherished ornaments!
True talent! I cherish my Dapper Snowman!
Thanks Steph!
I don’t know what wood the hat is made from , but Ima give it a try 🎉😊
Hi. The snowman hat is made from Bloodwood. Merry Christmas!
🔥🔥🔥
Nice transition
Very cool!
very clean
clean!
These are so cool!
Nice video!
Thanks!
Thanks for info. Helpful in my own quest to learn how to turn. Just curious - do you waste the brush after applying epoxy or can it be cleaned and reused?
Thanks! Deft is a water based poly so the brushes wash out easily in water and the brushes can be used.
That's was it's for, da
For real?
Tell him cut his hair off he’d look just like corrado soprano 😂
"promosm"
This is amazing! Great job!
Thank you!
This is very impressive!!
I only have Purple Heartin my shop, but I am gonna try it. It’s lovely
Purple Heart will look great. Though a bit more dense than the Redheart. Thanks!
What happened to the inside of the shaker?
A metal tube was placed inside, and it is capped at the bottom, with the shaker on top.
Did not show inserting it. I bought this kit, many reviews state its hard to turn correct fit.
Like the Bellows AFS T-shirt! :-)
Can you buy the metal blanks to make a vintage style bottle opener?
Yes. I search vintage bottle openers on EBay.
I believe there bushings that are made for this kit so you turn w a pen mandrel.
If so that would eliminate the use of the jam chuck. 👍
Any concern for salt in stainless steel tube? For grinders the use of ceramic is standard, not steel.
Good question. If the salt remains dry I would think the stainless will be fine. I’ll let you know what I find out. Thanks for watching.
This is awesome I just ordered 10 kits for Christmas!! Thank you so much for the guidance!! THANK YOU
Thank you Rex. That means a lot.
@@ncwoodworker Just watched it again. Thank you for doing this video. I re learned the process and am starting the Christmas gifts. By the way did you mark these, ie "P" or "S" on the side to identify them further?? Was hoping you found a simple way to do that. Again thanks!
@Rex B hi Rex. I did not label the shakers. I just used the darker wood (walnut) for the pepper and the lighter wood (maple) for the salt.
Pretty cool👍🏻
I tested golden pecan but it looked to translucent and too golden. I stained the back with Minwax Wood Finish Solid Color Stain Amber. I watered it down to make it less opaque and I think it matches well.
Great! Thanks for letting me know.
Was there a trick to removing the seat? I need to remove my bases but its all rivets from what I see.
@@matthewferrell8185 The padded seat parts are just connected with screws to the frame.
Not sure. I’ll rewatch the video and see what I did. I’ll get back with you. Thanks for watching.
Thanks for letting me know.
What a great idea for a gift❗️
Thank you!
Nice video! Its very Pleasent to watch👍🏼😜
