When You Break A Nail…
In this episode of "Festival Sessions" we are joined by my good friend Thatcher Harrison. Here he is playing his own composition called "Broken Nail Blues"
Thatcher's Bio
Thatcher Harrison is a guitarist and a composer. As a composer, Thatcher tries to expand the boundaries of classical guitar repertoire through what he calls “classical fusion” composition: pieces based in classical composition and performance techniques, but with influences from other genres such as jazz music, rock music, fingerstyle guitar music, blues music, pop music, folk music, film score music, and world music. As a guitarist, Thatcher chooses to perform programs consisting primarily of his own compositions. Thatche...

5 Left Hand Exercises You Need To Know
What a beautiful Classical Guitar! May I know the brand?
Well done video with lots of good advice. I'm glad you included the Kremona brand. Cordoba is a popular brand and they are reasonably good guitars for the money. Years ago I tried the Cordoba C9 and C10, and then some of the Kremona models. Right away I liked the Kremona guitars better and felt like you were getting more for the money. I ended up buying the Kremona Romida RDS. I don't know how consistent either brand is from one guitar to the next, but for the money, the Kremona guitars came much closer to a professional level guitar than the Cordoba guitars I tried.
Rocket science
You didn't mention what the second piece was ..
I understand that these pieces are good for learning the various hand techniques, but I find them not very interesting at all. What if I don't find the typical classical repertoire that engaging? Is it possible to learn the required techniques of classical guitar using songs from the modern popular era?
❤
Are you Jerry Lewis grandson?
When using the first option (external mic) do players ever run their microphone into something like an acoustic guitar amp rather than just a speaker in order to be able to do things like EQ it and add reverb? I'm trying to get into playing gigs at small venues but I'm a little confused about how the set-up would work. Let's I go with the first option, an external mic in front of my guitar which is then run into a speaker or amp. Say I'm playing inside of a venue that has both an inside and outdoor area, with a PA system including speakers in the outdoor area. Am I right in thinking that I would have to mic both my guitar up and my amp or speaker if I was using one? So it would be guitar -> mic -> amp/speaker -> mic -> venue PA system. I suppose I could run the mic directly into the venue's PA system, but which would mean I wouldn't need the amp or speaker, but that's assuming the venue's PA system has some sort of EQ, or if it doesn't I guess I just go without. Any help would be much appreciated. Edit: Also, I recently went to my local music shop and tried out my guitar and external mic with a fishman loudbox mini (60W) and it was very hard to get enough signal. I had to crank the volume and gain and put the mic very close in order to be audible, which is obviously not ideal. I'm really at a loss and not sure how to move forward from here. I thought I was going to go for the external mic+amp combo but after trying it it seems like it wouldn't work very well for me. I'm now looking at getting a pickup installed in my guitar but I'm not super keen on that either.
The simple fact is, tablature is logical.. Standard notation is NOT.. Just saying
You played a little fast, and because you played fast, you had some hitches.😢
@@BABAPROKRAL4 thanks for the lesson!
Love this video. Excellent. This is a public service. Thank you.
Not one real Spanish guitar in the list? Or even a top German guitar? Amazing! No real classical guitarist would rate or buy any of these on the so called best classical guitars.
Like any instrument, it’s best to have an actual teacher. That’s what these books are made for.
I totally agree… however this books description says it can be used alone. Which is totally not true for this book of all books. I just wish they wouldnt lie haha
I don’t get sheet music though, no matter how many sources I find online none of them explain how you know WHICH e you’re supposed to play. There’s at least 4 e’s on the fretboard alone and I can’t tell which one I’m supposed to play. If someone knows please tell me

You need to look at guitar music, not just regular sheet music.

I played a Degas with British Guts. Great sounds.
I find it hard without tab because i taught myself on tabs
What’s the song name of the tab/sheet that you provided? It looks interesting.
Twinkle Twinkle Little Star is pretty difficult.
The list is a joke 😂😂😂
If nobody see Marcin Patrzalek is a joke 😂😂😂
Sounds the same
omg!! is that the national anthem of Peru?! Amazing!!
Yes!!!
Bars 81 & 82 of Jongo by Bellatini
For ne, the clised port sounded stronger.
Gran Jota by Francisco Tarrega is more difficult piece to play than Recuerdos de Alhambra, Los Abjejos and La Cathedral by Agustin Barrios Mangore, Etude No. 7+12 by Heitor Villa-Lobos, Sevilla by Albeniz is more difficult than Asturias, and Leo Brouwers El Decamaron Negro are the more well know pieces that I find difficult to play
Well obviously it’s hard to judge cause I can’t hold it or hear it live but like 500 range feels right
I’m terrible at reading sheet music and now it’s coming back to bite me I’ve go to learn it as if I just picked up a guitar yesterday
Up your do nothing Kamal
Cueca, in portuguese, means "man underware". Wonder why this piece is rarelly played here in Brazil kkkk
Hahah that is interesting! Also very funny thanks for sharing
slow down it isn't thrash metal let notes breath
Gotta work the retention sorry :(
You look like a Biden guy.
Thanks?
@@ForTheClassicalGuitarist : Thanks? Trump 2024!! Remember that.....
why is the sound of 2 guitars muted and at whose order... it is NOT a mistake.
RUclipss muting them for copyright sadly, next time ill play less popular stuff
Enjoyed your video and subscribed! Are there PDF’s for these pieces?
Thanks so much! And no let me know if you cant find them and i can let you know where to find the sheet music for purchase
Totally misleading title. Add 'for beginners' or something that will tell us you are not reviewing a real top range guitars like Ramirez and other top brands!
I just did the title of the article , not my making haha
Is it impossoble to play loud without growing out your nails because i absolutely hate when my nails are even an inch too long
Well.. to be fair an inch is going to be too long haha. Even 1/4 of an inch is good. But i get the idea. And yes but you wont have control over your sound
2, but why
Washburn S is likely slim body, good job much appreciated
Thanks! And im certain that it is haha
I play Flamenco (which is pretty dynamic). The Adeline pickup (Amazon) stick- on pickup (just opposite the trebles) sounds just like what I hear without it, and has a 1/4" jack, so you can use wireless (e.g. XVive) into your signal procesor (GT-10000 or Helix). I just use an OD-200 gor a bit of overdrive into the flat setting of a guitar amp, and use the reverb there. Buet the MFX are so good these days, that pracitcallly anyone will do (I also hae a GT-1000Core and an HX Stomp and many ohers in my research, whiich allow an infinite amoohnt of hading, effects, etc. I like the KNK pickups (which you just brushed over), but the 1/8" jack makes them not so compatible (although there is a wireless with an opptional 1/8" plug which mieht work.) But the Adeline with the 1/4" jack and gain control on board sounds extermely good. The Cordoba guitars are great, but the stock preamps have a heavy proximity bass effect with the mic, which can't be dialed out. However, replacing them with the Fishman Pro Aura or the Takamine CT4-DX (no internal mic) sound as good as the Aeline. I had the Aura Pro installed in all my Cordobas, but only use the tuner - the Adeline is so much easier to deal with, and down't require batteries.
Why no mentioning of his lutes?
This is a guitar channel. I will make a new channel dedicated to lutes!!
Alhambra are way better than the others and it's not even close
The first one looks like my cort, and mine only cost 350$
IMO you should consider that everyone is not like you. The book is directed at theory and the beginner. Because you have a problem with simplicity is your problem. You have a developmental disability. It's not the book. Get it?
What about the Fleta?
Hi, Firstly thanks for your channel and the work you put into it. I’m 53 and just embarking on my guitar journey. I wonder if you’d be able answer a question for me. I have been a diatonic accordion player for 15 years and have found through that journey that although you can get great mid-priced instruments (especially when set up well) that the higher end instruments are much easier to play which leads to faster improvement and just more enjoyment in learning. As I’m older and lucky to be in the position to spend a bit more money I’ve been looking at guitars in the £1500 kind of range. I have a crush on a Hanika 56 AF-N. My question- is it a rational idea, in your opinion, to spend this much as a beginner, or would you recommend cheaper options? Thanks in advance! Rob
Rob, not sure if you are still looking for a reply to your question a month after you posted it, but I hope RUclips lets you know that I have a comment to go with your question! I am about to turn 65, and have been dabbling in guitar off and on since my early teens. As I move toward retirement, one of the interests that I am starting to address NOW is to improve my competence on the musical instruments that have interested me over the years (there are several of them, including fingerstyle acoustic guitar, classical guitar, piano, clarinet, viola, tenor ukulele, alto recorder and tenor recorder). At my age, with the threat or possibility of arthritis and/or age-related encroaching muscle deterioration or weakness possibly in my future, I feel like I do not have the time or luxury to progress slowly through incrementally better instruments! So, for the instruments of which I do not already own a mid-high quality intermediate specimen, I am investing in the best instruments I can afford (up to upper-intermediate level), and I hope & expect to grow INTO them skill-wise, rather than taking the time to grow out of lesser instruments. So- I got a relatively inexpensive Cordoba Protege 1/2 size guitar to learn on and keep near the sofa (I am small-framed and have small hands, so need a smaller guitar), but I am also going to invest soon in a Cordoba C10 parlor (which is way above my knowledge pay grade, but its richer & deeper tonality will inspire me to grow!). I am what I call a tone junky- I can sometimes just sit and finger pick random chord progressions JUST to savor the sound and feeling that a fine instrument makes! So, in response to your question to the gentleman who posted this video, I invite you to consider feeling totally fine, reasonable and guilt free if you treat yourself to an instrument that you can spend years growing INTO skill-wise, rather than growing out of. I think the enhancements built into finer instruments CAN support a beginner or advanced beginner’s learning, so I’m going for it!! Best wishes for total enjoyment and satisfying growth and progress as you move toward mastery of classical guitar!🌹🌹🌹
