I remember Billy Cunningham well from his days with the ABA Carolina Cougars. Having a UNC-Chapel Hill kid return to NC to play with the Cougars was very exciting. He was one of the true greats of the game, both as a player and a coach.

STORMIN NORMAN WAS A TOUGH DEFENSIVE PLAYER. HE LEFT EVERYTHING ON THE COURT. THE BULLS NEVER IN HIS LIFETIME OR AFTER GAVE HIM APPLAUSE FOR ALL HIS CONTRIBUTIONS. HE AND HIS FAMILY NEVER RECEIVED ANY ACCOLADES , TRIBUTES AND HIS # RETIRED. DAMN DISGRACE. HE GAVE MORE THAN PIPPIN WHOSE NUMBER IS RETIRED . REMEMBER PIPPIN REFUSED IN A MAJOR PLAYOFF GAME TO GO OUT THERE AND PLAY(1994)

Almost nothing about this story is factual. 1. His parents names are Mark & Jean. 2. The Royals used their territorial pick, not the #2 pick. 3. His first year in the NBA was 1963/1964, not 1962. 4. He and his first wife, Treva, had two children, not three. Jeff & Julie, not Cheri (his wife) or JJ or J. 5. He has never had open heart surgery. He did go through a procedure to correct atrial fibrillation, but it was not open heart surgery. I know because I was there!

He played for 4 years at the University of Montana. The AI information presented is wrong. He also went to Manual High School in Denver. Jud Heathcote was his coach at Montana for MRs first 2 years. Heathcote moved to Michigan State and recruited Magic Johnson. Heathcote said MR was every bit as good as Magic, just 2 or 3 inches shorter. He had Magics ability and was much quicker. Larry Bird once said after a game against the Knicks that he had just played against the best player on the planet. Sad, he would have been up there Bird and Magic if not for his demons.
