    THANKS !!! VERY CLEAR EXPLANATION !!! I have a question. In Russian language we can not use the following structure : PREPOSITION + INFINITIVE. In other languages this structure is possible. For example : " sin luchar " ( Spanish), " sans combattre" ( French), " sem lutar " ( Portuguese), " senza combattere " ( Italian). They all mean " without fighting ". Is there a Russian structure that allows us to out " PREPOSITION + SOMETHING + INFINITIVE ?

    • @russianwithrita
      @russianwithrita 2 месяца назад

      @@marceloprevedi5092 nice question :) Prepositions are used before nouns (subjects / objects). You remember that when we add -ing to infinitive in English, it may become a subject or an object. For example: 1) Smoking is bad. ('Smoking: is a subject here, a noun). 2) I'm against smoking. ('Smoking' here is an object) In both cases, we see that the verb has turned into a noun. In Russian, 'without fighting ' is 'без борьбы'. Бороться / драться / ругаться - to fight (infinitive); Борьба / драка / ругань - nouns. So we can use prepositions with them: без борьбы, без драки, без ругани (родительный падеж: кого? чего? / Genetive case, that's why endings have changed). And what about 'Preposition + Something + infinitive', we don't use this kind of word order. But you can say, for example, обойтись без драки (infinitive + preposition + noun), which means 'do without fighting / get by without fighting '.
