Making of DEMARRAGE V2

DEMARRAGE is a performance installation in which 2 audience members compete against each other in an energy-generating-cycling-competition. The participants make an imaginary 5-minute journey to PARIS, in a Tour de France/Climate Agreement crossover. During these 5 minutes the cyclists are pr...
Using an old E-BIKE as a GENERATOR.... FAIL!
Просмотров 1,3 тыс.Год назад
It’s finally there, Episode 4 of this crazy project: building a performance installation about the relation between sustainability and humanitarian crises. I tried to use a broken E-bike to generate power, which was disappointing… So I used hoverboard motors instead! Next episode is gonna be crazy, a lot of building around the bikes, making the whole thing into a performance installation… So ma...

Use chane drive to generators - no slip and no loses
600 Watts x 5 seconds, good job ;) I think it's better design for 100 Wh if your legs could sustain for 1 hour it will make a great exercise bike.
I need it in Ukraine!
Awesome video!!! Will you be revisiting this build to finish it off? I'd be interested to see how long it takes to charge the battery from low to full charge!!!
Thank you for the information and the video! I appreciate all the effort you put into you channel! Question ... Rather than trying to run all of the resistive loads ... What results would you get going into a charge controller and charging a 12V / 100AH Lithium battery? Your set up is the cleanest / closest to charge potentially charging a battery using hoverboard motors I've seen. I'm hoping to create a set up whereby I can charge 12V / 100AH lithium batteries, one at a time (or maybe 2 at a time for 24V) and have them either in backup reserve or in a constant rotation of 5-10 batteries & inverters to run various items when needed (TV, refrigerator, etc)
Volts up amps down for same watts
Good job Subbed for the "water cooker" thought
Yup those hoverboard motors make awsome generators. You can rearrange the parts on the controller board to build the rectifier and even using the BMS to make a nice clean 30V DC output.
Who cares if its 600w? Most ppl can sustain 50-200w at most.
You don't need the smoofing caps, it's just like any PWM. Keep up the great vids!
Welke condensator heb je gebruikt capaciteit/spanning?
i have for project to offgrid my electricity soon ,and brushless motors are banger for generator projects (i love "escooter" wind turbine ,so simple to do and great power)
Can you generate power back into bike so you never need to charge it again
I have a question about hoverboards motors
Os motores de hoverboard funcionam com 3 fases AC Não entendi como os ligou em série. Agradeço
I used a 3 phase bridge rectifier and a big capacitor for every motor to transform the 3 pbase AC into DC. Then I tried the DC output of both motors in series and parallel :-)
Love your energy! (no pun intended). looking forward to your future stuff. Go for it
The Eiffel tower carrot 😂
If pewds was into diy/channel
Amazing❤
Bro, is this all in one day?
Hehehe no I wish! This was several days worth of messign things up and trying to come up with other solutions 😋
@@jurriaandevosprojects I'm glad hahaha. It looks like it's all in one day and I was like "what a fucking machine!" hahaha
a spark burnt your moustache haha such an epic mini journey there kinda feels like electronic asmr
For real tho, imma make an asmr edit of all the full length welding, it sounds AMAZING
@@jurriaandevosprojects go ahead ser, can't sub twice to you haha
Thank you very much for the great footage of your real live trial and error success story! Planning to build a bike like you with the wave board generators. You give me the inspiration to start with this project! Go on!
Great to hear this! If you have any questions or need recommendations about building something like this, happy to help 🙂
can be an excersice bike where people can burn cals and generate electricity at the same time lol
Yup, burn those reserves! :-)
first view lol
this is amazing. hilarious content & really cool bike that you're building! subscribed 💯
During a bicycle race, an elite cyclist can produce close to 400 watts of mechanical power over an hour and in short bursts over double that-1000 to 1100 watts; modern racing bicycles have greater than 95% mechanical efficiency. 5% friction, what about this bike
Hehehe well, I'm pretty sure neither me nor this bike are in the elite segment... 😇 There is "normal" friction in chain, bearings, etc. and this bike has seen better days. So well above 5% I'd say. Then there is a lot of added fruction between the aluminum rim of the rear wheel, and the rubber from the hoverboard motors. So I'd roughly estimate between 15 and 20% lost between legs and generator. And then there is of course the efficiency with which the generators translate rotation into electricity. No idea how much is lost there to be honest. Stay tuned for the next video's to see how much power I acctually get into a battery. There are some more conversion losses there 😉
Skip back to 00:00 if you didn't understand it the first time 🙋🏻♂️😂
Goed bezig!
Blijven demarreren Jur!
"what am I doing" lol such a vibe! the music syncing with your work is amazing!

Thnx man, greatly appreciated 🙂
how long does it take to boil a kettle of water with 200-300 watts?
Depends on a few factors like efficiency of your boiling device and thermal isolation and such. But, considering that a 80w 350ml water boiler takes about 25min to get to boiling temperature, you could use 3 of those to boil about a liter of water in 25min using 240w. More or less. :-)
@@jurriaandevosprojects that's quite long for a few cups of tea!
@@KnowArt Yes. So usually some gas/coal/nuclear/biomass-powered steam turbine is doing all that work for YOUR cup of tea. 🙂 Or it's wind, solar, hydro, tidal or thermal power, but those are actually quite a small percentage of power generation.
Zo gaaf..... Energy from Jur, met Kate Perry and Frank Sinatra.....ik hou ervan🤣
the fact that it was 420 just makes this video holy
4th time watching this vid... can't get enough - especially after min 4:00
Haha lol, I suspect 10% of my views are just you :-p
So now you can make yourself a cup of tea when the grid goes down, how about hooking up a small induction plate and boiling a kilogram of potatoes. Could you cycle up a proper meal?
So far, nah. Hitting a 10sec peak of 600w is pretty tough already, let alone sustain it long enough for any significant amount of water to boil. Maybe a cup of tea would work, maybe a slice of toast. When you team up wit a bunch of people though, it gets more realistic! 4 people might be able to sustain 1kW for long enough to do some cooking... 😊
Induction plates need 60hz to give the base frequency for the pwm to use as a carrier. Also need to be used with a pure sinewave inverter or the guts blow up.
MORE LOAD!!
I effing love these vids, great editing!
Thnx! Happy to hear that 🥳
As a seller it's the same. Usually it's not worth selling small items because it just takes too much time. Thrift stores are great, but never digitally cataloged, making them useless too if you need to buy something specific. There's so much value lost... It's a tragic situation.
Often, mass produced products are cheaper /and/ better. But even in that case they might add less value over their lifespan as they won't be resold because the market is flooded, making it unproductive for individuals to resell. I wonder if this can become so bad that the overall efficiency ratio of a product is worse, between the work that it took to create the product vs the work that the product does in its lifetime. That'd be worth a nobel prize.
@Know Art Very true. I left the whole "economy of scale"-thing out of the story, cuz there's already so much to say. You wanna make a video about it? Colab?😛 But you're right. Producing in great quantities is incredibly more efficient than producing/trading/repairing in tiny quantities. Stuff and its location tends to go in an ever increasing state of entropy, where it scaters throughout the world until it's either worn and torn, or just not in the right place to be used anymore. Logistics and indexing is a great challenge right now. If someone would apply AI there, that'd be nice. Nobel prize, anyone? 🙂 Responding to your last thought, I don't think our current economic system is targeted towards efficiency and utility, but towards maximum reward. So I think it's very plausible that there are products that in fact cost more to produce then they'll ever make up for. This of cource also taps into true pricing.... And I think it's a hard thing to measure. Sure, if all product where tools, it'd be realtively easy. But there are a lot of products that aren't produced to do work. Books, paintings, ornaments, paint, etc. I don't know how to measure when a book had more output than it cost to produce. And other things are there to provide security, either real, or security of utility. For example, how much work do smoke detectors do? Or how usefull is it to have a shed full of tools that you rarely use? Or a car for occasional trips? They're all there to provide security of utility, but are seldomly used. Well. Hm. Thoughts. 🙂 I would argue, quite bluntly, that we'd need to maximise utility if we want to sustain such a huge population. So sustainability = maximising utility? Maybe. More thoughts.
Can't wait for the rest :)
I absolutely love this Jur. You're so funny as your authentic self. Thanks for this amazing eleven minutes of my life. See you soon!! Enjoy the ride, wink wink.
