Excellent! This game never gets old.
Great video. I just starting playing this game and love it. You gave me the types of tips I was looking for. Thank you
Glad it could be helpful! Wingspan never gets old.
Very good advices. Awesome video. WS is my all-time favorite game + I play the digital version too.
Thank you! I love the game too, I never get tired of it.
@TabletopShop wanna hear a cool fun fact about a localization?
Go for it.
@@TabletopShop The localization of the base game in Serbia by "Mipl", a small company which sells and translates games, included an ornithologist and linguist. Some birds not native to Serbia got translated for the first time ever. These translations are officially included into the Serbian language. I heard this is the first time ever the translation of a board game directly influenced a language.
Fascinating, you don't often hear about board games having that sort of result!
4:20 Yer dad's got it right with Agricola Nate (especially if it includes Farmers of the Moor - don't let me start waxing lyrcal about Artifex Bubulcus Corbarius Dulcinaria and Consul Dirigens ...) 25:19 I feel _PERSONALLY TROLLED_ by Cody. a) Century Golem's boring alternative is *obviously* Century Spice Road and b) Pandemic haters hatin' on Pandemic AGAIN c) Tiny Epic Galaxies is only beaten by Tiny Epic Dinosaurs as non-tabletop-hogging multiplayer game (OK Nate, Galaxy Trucker is REALLY pathetic, it's fun for 2 plays .. _per lifetime_). Spirit Island as gateway game recommendation?! Double-U-Tee-Eff Cody ??
I believe I can agree with just about everything in this comment. -Nate
What kind of liquid is that
Plain old water, but it's hot.
Great tutorial without a lot of fluff! Thanks for the great tips for this very fun game.
No problem, I'm glad it was helpful!
Oologist is very strong bonus card
7WD has an official solo mode.
I see, looks like you have to purchase(or maybe print) some cards for it, but it does exist.
Wait, so you can't afford to hire other people to do the setup for you?
Love the info. It would be better without the annoying background music.
9:05 and the following has _Keanu the Killer_ reminding me of _Cohen the Barbarian_ who finds himself reminiscing with a _Bridge Troll_ about how the Discworld used to be, when trolls all hid under bridges to be killed by heroes, and the land was not yet settled. (Terry Pratchett fan) 👹
Discworld is very high on my "to-read" list. I just finished Hyperion Cantos not too long ago and it's got me wanting more classic sci-fi. -Nate
4:27 ... obviously not ... its a _role playing game_ and therefore on _Role Playing Game Geek_ (RPGG - the holy grail of RPGs) - Link at the left-top corner of BGG home page. BTW: Great content, as always dudes ...

No idea how your channel hasn't blown up - this is the best guide I've found! Thanks so much for creating this.
No problem, glad it could be useful!
Went through a few other guides and this was by far the best and most efficient video (in line with the wingspan strategy itself lol)
Thanks a bunch, I'm really glad it was helpful. Wingspan is quite the game.
What is a good score ? I had 68 points on my second game with 4 players.
Not bad! It depends on player count (more players results in higher scores), but as you start studying combos and get more familiar with the game, you'll start seeing scores of 100+. My personal record is 160, but I've heard of scores much higher than that.
i think now rules was changing you can`t get two eggs from the start
Thank you for your thoughts on Neotopia! 😊 - André Santos
No problem, thanks for visiting the channel!
Where did you buy the upgraded components?
It was a combination of Etsy and Topshelfgamer.com, both are great sources for good upgrades.
I love the automata in the digital version. What do you think of the current expansions?
I've played a bit of the European and Oceania expansions, and they're not bad. However, I think the nectar mechanism breaks the game experience, and prefer to play without. Haven't had a chance to try Asia yet, but I have played Wyrmspan, and I think it's a great reimplementation that streamlines some of the clunkier aspects of the original/expansions.
@@TabletopShop I came around on the nectar mechanic but only after awhile. I’ve wanted to try Wyrmspan but I haven’t had a chance.
@@mxandrew It's definitely worth a shot. Gives you a new type of puzzle to solve if Wingspan becomes bland.
I play this game on Steam too, so I have screenshot evidence, but my top score is 118😊 Wetlands from left to right: 1egg=2 resources, Tuck card=1 egg, 1 Wheat=2 Tucked cards, Tuck card=Get card, Repeat. Wetlands had me drawing 5 cards each time. Went into final round with 11 cards in hand.
That's a pretty strong Wetlands engine right there, well done!
Let me tell you a secret, if you cheat the game on Steam, with the base game + european expansion, it's possible to get more than double that amount. I once got 268 points in a 5p game. In the end, the board looked like this: In the forest: dunnock (4 eggs), red eye vireo (2 eggs), bonneli's eagle with 3 tucked cards, eurasian golden oriole (1 egg), european goldfinch with 7 cards tucked. In the grasslands: ruff (9 tucks), common starling (15 tucks and 4 eggs), eurasian tree sparrow (4 eggs), eastern bluebird (5 eggs), common swift (5 eggs and 1 tuck) In the wetlands: common chiffchaff (15 tucks, 4 eggs), savi's warbler (15 tucks), gray catbird (14 tucks), canada goose (36 tucks, 2 eggs), black bellied whistling duck (36 tucks, 5 eggs). Bonus card: behaviourist, with 12 points. Also 16 points from end of the round goals. Without cheating, you can get high scores as well, just not as high of course. It usually involves having a raven and or a killdeer/franklin's gull and a catbird/mockingbird in the grasslands (paired with other tucking abilities like sandhill crane, dickcissel, etc) or going for the kind of tucking engine you built + pink powers on other habitats. I've seen people scoring higher than 140/150 with such engines. If you love the game, I absolutely recommend you to play it with the asia and oceania expansions, those add so many other different mechanics to the game, so many more ways of scoring points that having a killdeer and a raven in your starting hand wont even guarantee you a win anymore. The Sri Lanka Blue-Magpie for example became the new OP card to have and for that reason we've banned it from being played. Other cards, when played, just end up leading to a high scoring game for EVERYONE at the table, like the blue rock-thrush, besides allowing all the interesting interaction between players, who keep passing the card pass around. Unfortunately, the fact that all these new cool abilities were added with the expansions, a lot of birds from the base game became completely obsolete and no one wants to play them EVER unless they really have to, for specific reasons. Wish you lots of fun playing the game, it's one of the best engine building games ever created imo =)
I just bought this base game i thought i wanna buy another expansion of this game what you recommend for it?
The Invaders from Afar expansion is definitely worth it (adds the Togawa and Albion factions), and The Wind Gambit expansion adds some modules that change play a bit. The last expansion is Rise of Fenris, which adds a lot of material via a campaign that you play through. I can recommend all of them!
@@TabletopShop for all of them what is Recommended for me (solo) cause not all My friend like to play heavy games like Syhte
Hmm, you know, I've never played the Automa myself, so I can't really vouch for how they run solo, but at the very least Invaders From Afar is a good start since it gives you new factions to play with.
@@peaceniteI'd recommend you the Wind Gambit, as the airships give you more flexibility to move your workers around (very usefull in early gameplay) or it can help you a lot in combat aggainst the Automa (from the few games I tried, this f*cker becomes very aggressive on scheme II when you want to hold on to the factory). I don't already own Invaders From Afar tho I really want to buy it, but mainly because I want to have more faction possibilities while playing bigger games with [many] friends. I wouldn't say that it's a must, since I still enjoy a lot of the OG factions, and from what I've heard of IFA, they're rarely you favorite factions. So unless you want a harder challenge (apparently, again, I haven't played them yet...), they won't change a lot to the game. The airships are really cool and they add some new stuff to the game mechanics. If you want longer, deeper games, Rise Of The Fenris adds a campain that can be played with the Automa from what I understand, but I have not played one yet neither. The modular board seems cool also, but I don't personnally feel the urge to have it as much as I want larger hexagons. As stated before, I've played a couple of games with the Automa, I feel like it's getting kinda repetitive and predictable so it's just becoming a shorter race against time the harder you choose to play him. So my top recommendations for Scythe expensions would be: 1) Find new/better friends 2) Wind Gambit for small game mechanics addition, and Rise of the Fenris for bigger ones 3) Bigger board 4 (only if you fullfilled the 1st expension recommendation) Invaders from afar 5) Modular board 6 (don't know them, can't recommend or not-recommend) additional encounter cards package 7) Get new friends, so all of the above gets like, 3X cooler to play with. Hope it helps you choose how much money you want to pour into this awesome game, and if you really can't find anyone to play with in your surroundings, try finding someone on fb groups or local game cafe/bar to play with. In Montreal, there's a few of what we call "bar ludique" where people go to play board games with or without friends, and when I was living on the south shore of mtl there was a board game shop that had dedicated tables for gamers to play alongside other ones with sometimes organised games/turnaments, and sometimes unorganized ones. Also, some times people working in those specialized shops/retailers are big fans and are also looking out for new players, talking to them may find you a new player (for Scythe, or for other games).
48:35 LoWD cubes are essentially #AFGNCAAP with the secretive _behind-the-scenes_ Lords pulling all the strings. 50:45 Whaat?! The LoWD box and insert(s) are the _BEST_ design *ever* . _SHINES_ with the expansion (SoSP) ! Xanathar is flabbergasted ...

Thank you for featuring my game Targi in this episode, I feel very honoured. Maybe I can answer some of the questions that popped up. Most of the answers are tied to the fact that the mayority of the Kosmos for two player games are bought by people that don´t play very many games, since these gamses are also sold in Germany in corner stores and drug stores to an wider audience. In fact 90 % of all the Targi copies have been bought by casual gamers. So a Kosmos for two game is also tailored to these players and not hardcore gamers alone. Therefore such a game has to be cheap to buy, so cardboard tokens are used instead of expensive acrylic tokens (the board game geek store has some fantastic upgade bits for people who want to bling out the game with more than only simple raisins). It has to be easy to understand and Targi already scratches the upper limit. So only one type of boarder cards to keep it simple (more of those cards are added in the two expansions for more depth and variety). A simple name for the expansion, so that people who are not into the hobby still understand that this is an expansion for Targi (and yes we had some flashy alternatives). And those silver crosses are traditional jewelery of the Tuareg people, if you google Tuareg and jewelery you find plenty of pictures and descriptions. The ones depicted in the game are called an Agadez cross these are given by a father to his son when he reaches around 15 years of age. This is the age a boy becomes a man and is free to travel anywhere he wishes. The four points of the cross represent the four corners of the world, so no not a nina star or a currency :-) Hope I could answer some of the questions. Thanks for your great podcast. Keep up the good work. Many greetings Andy
Hi Andy, thanks so much for addressing all of that! I hope you don't take any personal offense from any of our criticisms, we give our full thoughts on any game. 🙂 We also understand that there's a lot more intentionality behind game design choices than we get to see as the players, so it's cool to get a behind-the-scenes perspective. That makes so much more sense about the silver crosses, thanks for clarifying! That definitely adds to the immersion and theme. We've both enjoyed playing Targi, and I hope to get around to trying out the expansion. Thanks for supporting the podcast, and for making games!

I just got this game from my wife as a present. I am totally addicted to it but I suck at it. I searched for tips and this video does the best job of explaining how to succeed at this great game. Thanks!
Thank you, I'm glad to hear it was helpful! Lay those eggs!
My wife and I have been playing this game for a year, she destroys me every time... I'm here to study so I may defeat her one day...
Study up, you've got this!
UPGRADED LIST (in my opinion): 7: Nordic, trash, garbage, and terrible 6: Togawa, little better, traps are good 5&4: Albion and Saxony, its really hard because if you play Albion just right, its very good! But if you're going against a really good saxony player, then its fair game really. 3: Polania, Encounter cards go brrrr 2: Rusviet, very good but dosent match up against... 1: Crimea!!! Best faction, easy winning, smooth win🦧
A worthy list!
The Rusviet can reach the Factory on 3rd turn and they can out-produce anyone else on the board right from the beginning, meaning they don't even really need to play the game that hard... They may seem beginner friendly because of how forbidding they are at choosing not-so-efficient actions sequences, (thanks, faction ability) but their Mechs ability (especially people's army) gives them an unfathomable advantage in combats that no one, not even the Crimeans or the Saxons can up-hold aggainst. So basically, you can just dump a shit ton of ressources on an heavily guarded position... every single turn... and pretty much non one can do anything about it, except finish the game faster. The Airships can help a little aggainst them, but I'd argue that they can also help them, most of the time.

I'm late to the game, ha ha but find i really like Wingspan despite not being a big fan of birds. This is the the best strategy video I've watched!!! Thanks 👍 🎉
Thanks a bunch, I'm glad it proved helpful!
It may partially be the use of the expansions, but tucking with a full engine in the river is far superior to the egg option. Primarily because eggs have a cap, while you can tuck infinitely. My best engine gave me over 70 points from tucking. IDK that you could even get 70 egg spaces with all the biggest nests. I do totally agree on predator birds though, they really need a buff.
Very interesting, I'll have to give that a try. Thanks for the tip!
70 tucked cards?!? That's INSANE!
To be honest, I once played a game of base + european expansion with 5 players. 2 of them had full on tucking engines and a third hard a partial tucking engine. Do you know what happened? Last round of the game, they couldn't tuck anymore, we ran out of cards. they tucked the entire deck + the discard pile that had already been reshuffled. So it's not exactly unlimited as you say, but yeah, it's a better engine than egg spamming. The issue with going for the tucking engine is that not only do you need to have those birds in your hand early on to start working towards your engine but you also need to be lucky enough to have the right combos, and that's extremely rare to happen, while the egg spamming strategy works with a lot more different birds, so it's easier to build the egg spamming one. If you are lucky enough to start with a maned duck + a sandhill crane and a mute swan then, by all means, go for the tucking engine! But otherwise, the majority of the times you'll have to pick a different strategy to go with and with the base game + european expansion, there really isnt anything better than egg spamming.
Background music is VERY distracting, but thanks for the info, anyway.
Good to know, glad it was still helpful!

I just started playing this game and youtube recomended your video. Incredibly well designed video, please keep doing strategy guides, A+, orders of magnitude better than other strategy videos I watched.
Thank you very much, I'm glad it was useful for you! It was a labor of love.
In the final tips section you mention you can skip brown powers. You have to remember that you can skip ALL bird powers, no matter what the colour is. All powers are optional.
Indeed: my focus was simply on the aspect that you can skip the more common negative effects that some brown powers have, but that's a good point.
Thanks, I didn't know this
What about Rise of Fenris factions?
An excellent question! Unfortunately I haven't had much opportunity to really vet them, but they definitely have their advantages.
