What the book is also about: Schlögel's book provides a unique examination of the cultural and historical connections between the United States and Soviet Union during the 1930s. But I hope the video description reveals that this poem was aimed at the early Rastafarian movement. As serious as their claim was and perhaps even still is, Miss Lou knew how to bring humour into a serious situation. The rest of us accepted the birthplace as home.

Chapeau, Maria! Insbesondere für die Erklärung der grammatikalischen Schwierigkeiten beim Gendern (ihr Hund, seine Katze etc ..). Persönlich und als Sprachdienstleisterin bin ich eindeutig dafür, gendergerecht zu schreiben und wenn möglich auch zu reden. Es ist klar, dass viele Menschen sich daran stören, darüber wundern und es auch nicht verstehen. Aber ist es nicht immer so? Ich höre noch meinen Onkel, der vor etwa 40 Jahren, als die "Grünen" das erste Mal antraten, lautstark erklärte kein Mensch werde ihn dazu bringen, mehrere Mülltonnen aufzustellen! Und wie war es mit dem bleifreien Benzin .. man drohte uns an wir müssten in Italien tanken, weil es hier den entsprechenden Sprit nicht gibt und da fallen mir gleich noch ein paar lustige Beispiele ein. Ich habe mich durchaus immer "mitgemeint" gefühlt, aber es ist noch einmal ganz anders, direkt angesprochen zu werden. Wie viele Trends ist auch dieser nicht auf unser kleines Land hier in D begrenzt und Menschen in anderen Ländern mag es vielleicht auch ein wenig helfen, wenn sich langsam ein Bewusstsein ausbreitet, dass es Menschen vielerlei Couleur gibt. Ich denke auch, wir sollten jede:r für sich eine individuelle Lösung finden, bei der die Sprache nicht auf der Strecke bleibt. Und mit der Zeit werden wir das auch hinkriegen:) Eine schöne Zeit für euch!
Lieben Dank Daniela. Ja genau wie jedes Land sich um eine eigene Lösung bemüht, können wir eine Lösung finden. Ja und nie nie sagen, denn auch unser Bewusstsein ändert sich irgendwann. Stichwort Bewusstsein: als Deutschlernende damals hatte ich mich sehr gewundert, und daran gestört, dass ein Mädchen dinglich sein sollte. Inzwischen ist auch bekannt, dass Sprache eine Auswirkung auf das Bewußtsein hat. Mancherorts lässt sich die Stellung der Frau zu wünschen übrig. Ich denke, Sprache ist die unbewusste Ausgeburt einer tiefsitzenden Denkweise.

Es gibt übrigens eine einfache Lösung für die Genderei - wir Frauen und alle anderen Nicht-Männer:) haben uns ja nun immer "mitgemeint" gefühlt. Da wäre es doch leicht, ab jetzt, vielleicht ab Neujahr ... grundsätzlich das grammatische (generische) Femininum zu verwenden. Das wäre sprachlich gesehen nicht sehr kompliziert, höchstens ein bisschen ungewohnt und dann sind eben ab jetzt alle mitgemeint, die nicht ausdrücklich weiblich sind. So für die nächsten 500 Jahre oder so, dann kann man ja wieder wechseln:)

In der Diskussion geht verloren, dass im Deutschen die Diminutive -chen und -lein etwas Liebenswertes an sich haben UND dass gerade diese Endungen das Neutrum bedingen. (Ich weiß. Ich habe leider damit angefangen). Aber da sich das Bewusstsein geändert hat, könnte man Mädchen streichen und wieder „die Magd“ verwenden😉))

As a Jamaican in Germany I totally agree with you. I've lived here longer than in my native country and do feel comfortable here. However, I do return almost annually on lengthy vacations because my heart still belongs to Jamaica and always will.

What I like especially is that you make clear that boundaries don't prevent us from approaching and that it's not necessary (even not possible) to adopt another culture. But it is possible to be German in Germany + Jamaican in Jamaica:)
