Mr. Mall Walker

Добавлен 24 авг 2009
I've always enjoyed making videos that move at the pace of life which by most standards is somewhat slow. Things now seem to move so fast and overstimulate almost without exception. Lately I've really enjoyed making videos while walking through cities, malls and stores along with some driving and drone captures. These can have such a hypnotic ambience and effect. It's also really nice for people watching. In many ways I see these malls and stores as a window into a portion of our society at large. Consumerism. Capitalism. People as products. Etc.. I could go on all day and maybe I will at some point.
This is my first RUclips channel. I'm just getting started with this. Go ahead and subscribe. For the most part, it will only get better from here.

How walkable is Portland, Maine? Experience a relaxing Monday morning stroll on the City's West End

A 30 minute walk on a quiet, misty, and cool Fall morning. Starting from Pine street, walking a way down Congress street and back over towards the medical areas. Traffic was very low on this Monday since it was a holiday but my experience was that ever day walking in the area was easy and many times faster than driving because parking can be difficult to come by, expensive or both.

The mall gets a lot of crime. Just google and you'll find it.
Great video ❤
@@RandomShit25 glad you enjoyed it. Have you ever been to this mall?
Yes I have many times I loved it so much if I ever had the money (which I probably won't) I would try to restore it to its former glory
“What’s your favorite memory from this mall? Or is there a store you miss seeing? Share your thoughts below-I’d love to hear your stories!
You did a great job! I remember the mall from the '90's when it was still new. I enjoyed the before photos which is the Mt. Berry Mall that I remember. Taking out the trees, plants, fountain, and carousel sure made it bland. Those things broke up the space but there was still plenty of room for people to walk without being crowded. The gray stripe around the edge right in front of the walls and stores was a walking path. People were walking it just about anytime of the day and evening. I don't remember the distance, but those who used it knew how far it was so they would know how far they had gone with each lap. It sure is strange seeing how it is now compared to what it used to be. I'm very surprised it's still hanging on. Belk has been struggling for a long time now, and if they go out of business it will be a huge blow to the mall. I enjoyed your video and getting to see it as it is now. Thank you very much for the shout-out and linking my channel! I really appreciate it! 👍
@@AmericanExplorer thanks for the feedback and extra info. Yeah, it’s incredible that this mall can keep on keeping on. They will need to get creative to save it.. and so far they haven’t demonstrated much creativity.
so help me understand what all the fuss was about with the drama surrounding the mall a few months or so ago? robberies etc.. in or outside of lenox? and the mall trying to shut down because it was too much rah.rah and ignant ishh going on :} please help me understand.. cause this looks like the best time in the world at the mall.. one of the best malls ive been to ever..
I haven't heard any new bad news about Lenox in a while. There was a deal a while back where a guy shot someone over a parking space. Crazy.. but he was sentenced recently for that event and that made news. Guy got life in prison.. and many many years back there were lots of incidents going on at Lenox to the point where people had a legitimate reason to be concerned for their safety.. But I'm with you. I've been to LOTS of malls and this one is a complete stand out. Clean. Beautiful. Interesting. Inviting.. and while I never felt concerned for safety at all, there also was not a moment that I didn't see a police officer or security guard if not both in the main areas of the mall.. and what's ok about that is they were all completely relaxed and blending into the environment and not trying to be intimidating or imposing. Further I heard that lots of new leases were just signed for the mall.. Gucci, Rolex.. so.. whatever you've heard.. I'd say that big companies like that voting with their $$$ says that this mall isn't going anywhere. Thanks for the comment. Hope you have a good day.
Target at Atlantic Station has such a unique vibe-what do you all think about the layout and atmosphere compared to other Targets?
Ikea in USA is looks almost the same as here in Europe. I thought it would be more different.
Really interesting to hear. Guess it’s like the saying “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”.
I believe IKEA has mastered the walkthrough retail experience. I can't think of another store that just leads you through their ENTIRE store and it doesn't seem like a nuisance. Even when it's crowded like it was on this day it's still not 'that bad'.
Can you help me? Now that you've clicked on the video. Tell me what it is you'd like to see more of? What did you not see that you wanted to see? What did you enjoy about the video?
If you have any memories of this mall you could share, I'd love to hear about it.
Ud😊
😊😊👍🏻 thank you
I really fell in love with this part of town during our stay. If you know this area or any others like it in Maine I'd like to hear about them. Thanks!
If you've ridden this train let me know what your experience was. We really loved it.
Did an audio intro this time just to try out something new. Thoughts?
An interesting window into an off-the-beaten-path location. Thanks for uploading.
Thanks for watching. Kennesaw is pretty ok. 😁
Aw man, awesome footage! Unfortunately when I went, I didn’t have a drone yet. Wish I did! These clips are great, well done!
Thanks a lot. Wish I could get inside and have a look around.
Gone are the days . What have they got in that Mall that i could not order on my computer and have it delivered!!!!!
Indeed. For all but a few of the remaining malls the days are numbered. Impossible to compete with price and variety of what’s available online. As far as communities go though I hope we find something soon to replace it. The spaces where people meet, cross paths, or congregate are becoming fewer.
People say that online shopping is the reason malls are failing. I wholeheartedly disagree. The real reasons are. 1. People no longer have the disposable income to shop at malls because our once great middle class has been decimated over the past decades. 2. People don’t have the time. This is for a couple of reasons. Because of neglect from federal, state, and local governments on road infrastructure over the decades the roads going to and from malls have become congested. Nobody wants to waste time getting stuck in traffic just to get to a mall. Because of traffic congestion around malls, going to a mall will take up at least half of the day. Simply put, malls have become a pain in the arse to get to and from. That’s why people opt for places like Target and Walmart which are usually much closer and much easier to get to. The number one reason I don’t go to malls near where I live is because they’re a pain in the arse to get to. It $ucks because Target and Walmart generally sell low quality crap. And because most of what they sell is crap I have to buy a lot of things online. If the closest mall to me was easy to get to I’d shop there all the time, but it isn’t. Corruption within the state and county governments allowed developers to just build wherever they like without making them pay for the extra road infrastructure to handle the increased traffic these developers cause. They didn’t build parkways from the suburbs to the malls, bypassing the congested up retail clutter and congestion caused by the businesses that built up around the malls. That retail clutter that congested up the stoplight filled original roads that led to malls acted like arterial plaque built up similar to the arterial plaque built up for someone with heart disease. It eventually killed the mall’s because people didn’t want to deal with congested traffic just to get to a mall. So, if you don’t want to deal with congested traffic your only options are close by places like Target or Walmart, or online. Online shopping increased because malls became a pain in the arse to get to and because what Target and Walmart sells is mostly crap. People shop online not because it’s their preference, but because they have no choice if they don’t want to deal with congested traffic around malls or don’t want to buy the crappy products that Target and Walmart sell.
Wow. I really feel like you hit the nail on the head so many times in this comment. One other terrible side effect of losing malls is the 'third space' that was lost along with them. A place where you could run into friends by chance and then hang out and.catch up IN PERSON! Even if you happen to run into someone in one of these retail superstores what are you going to do? Stand in the isle and talk with carts all around you blocking up all of the other rushing and impatient consumers? I remember malls also.. and it's a shame they're gone and only survive as a shell of what they once were. Maybe we will somehow find our way back but as you noted local government themselves are so lost that their policies will not support healthy growth. Oh well. I'll continue documenting it all. I've considered talking over these videos but I think the videos speak for themselves and will continue to do so even more over time. Appreciate the well thought out response.
Thanks. Here’s an example of what I’m talking about. Let’s say you’re shopping for some quality cutlery for your kitchen. One of the better quality cutlery is J.A. Henckels, but the best Walmart sells is Farberware which is low quality junk. You have other things you want to do during the weekend so you don’t want to spend two thirds of your Saturday or Sunday fighting traffic to get to the closest mall to get quality cutlery. That gives you only one option which is online, especially since Bed Bath, and Beyond went out of business. Same with pots, pans, skillets, bedding, etc. BTW, Bed, Bath, and Beyond didn’t go out of business because of lack of customers. It was idiot management that caused its demise.
Can you do Walmart please?
Sure. I’ll do one sometime in this week for you. 😁
Good day. I recorded the video today and will be publishing it tomorrow afternoon. Thanks!

I really wanted to be able to go inside and I know some explorers have. If you have access or know how please reach out. I'd love the opportunity. Also, if you know anything about the future plans of this Mall, they seem pretty ambitions, let me know. It doesn't seem like anything is anywhere close to even being prepared at this point.
Quiet Friday night at North Point Mall. If you have any memories of this Mall or know about some of the future plants for the big remodel they have planned let me know.
I’m glad this mall is still doing well, but the Gwinnett Place mall before the remodel was still the most beautiful mall Georgia has ever had. It’s a shame what’s happened to it. Perimeter mall is icy and impersonal which probably reflects the wealthy stuck up crowd that lives in the Dunwoody area. It fits them. Gwinnett Place mall before the remodel was warm, personal, inviting, beautiful design that gave off that Disneyworld Main Street at night feel. Unlike the cold rigid contours of perimeter mall, Gwinnett Place mall had smoother contours and lush vegetation before the remodel. A very comforting and comfortable feel unlike perimeter mall which has a wealthy, cold James Bond kind of feel. It suits some people but definitely not for everyone.
I really appreciate hearing this perspective as I've never made it to Gwinnett Place Mall. Thank you so much for sharing it. Sounds like it was really nice. I hear that they're doing some new things with that property at this point. Do you still think it would be worth stopping by to have a look at it?
@@nole8923 your comment made me want to go see the mall again. It was totally closed up but I recorded what I saw there. Thanks for your description and memory of the place. ruclips.net/video/AlkXk5QTQ1g/видео.htmlsi=nqsGwOU4Oz0ABnAF

This is Perimeter Mall! It's been a part of Atlanta for so long. I'm can't remember the different restaurants they've had over the years. Everything in the mall is still in great shape. @@mrmallwalker As far as feedback, I was thinking of your channel becoming Atlanta's version of @Florida4Kchannel. The guy is all over Florida. Although I don't think ATL has the "eye candy" to captivate viewers.😅
People really need to come up with a better way to put the bathroom in so its not in the kitchen. Just imagine the germs .
100% agree. I understand that it’s probably simpler to just run all the plumbing together and it’s a super small space but I didn’t like that either. Kinda gross.
