I’m a Christian type 5 and I’d say that it’s pretty spot on. I’m part of the prayer team and Bible study I love research and my alone time and theories when I’m unhealthy I can rant about my secluded theories which doesn’t happen as much any more, thank goodness but I’ve realized my hearts desire is to be a counselor because of my love of observation and objection to difficult situations. And touching is not my thing lol which is strange because as a child I loved affection and my mother an absolute robot with emotions rejected me. I wonder if that also played a part? But I absolutely love to hug and kiss my grand babies, just love it!

I ended up being fortunate to have my type pointed out by a long time enneagram teacher. Type 6. I thought I was a 4. I am a 6 as I can see how my inner spirit child is a 9. Gurdjieff originated the enneagram and didn’t want it to be commercial or religious. It had nothing to do with personality assessment. God does not exist. Thanks for posting! I love his approach and all his books - a true reformer! Someone asked at the end about how to redeem your type - insight is a start but I feel that consciously relaxing the nervous system is key. Our compulsions are defense strategies so we can access the True Self when we are present and relaxed. Working with the body center is primary and he did mention expelling the energy prior to contemplation. Using all 3 centers is key - insight, compassion and relaxation.

For me, Richard Rohr is the best teacher of the enneagram. He brings each type to life and gets straight to the point with both humour and compassion. Richard also types many famous people differently (eg Marilyn Monroe as a 4 not a 6) and why. I highly recommend his books and videos.

Enneagram makes me laugh at myself

At 15:44 he mebtions the Five-ish as the "stereotype of the English. It isn't always true as we well found out last year.". As I was six when this was recorded, I don't know what he's referring to, could anyone help me here?

I would prefer to have learned this over algebra in school. Learning different ways to understand people can be helpful at work and in all kinds of relationships.

“Ok, the 9, quickly”… followed by a brief description of what it is to be a 9 and then an explanation of what everyone else should do for them. He didn’t take that approach for any of the other numbers - essentially “What are we to do about the 9s?…” Are 9s incapable of finding their own way to salvation? Or is that just a 1 not perceiving his own need to control the 9?

His description of 5's is really accurate. In my case it would be about 90% accurate! I do sit up front in the center because I'm hard of hearing and yes I'm reserved (except on stage (I'm a musician / actor). I'm great on stage but suck one on one (but I'm getting better!)
