Nice stuff, ive been playing this and think on the main melody Ian moss is bending whole step and 1/2, ive tried your way and it sounds good too, bit easier to play but doesn't quite nail it.

Do you have any recommendations for aural skills with guitar? The fact that guitar is a transposing instrument, how do we learn? Do I internalize middle C aurally or notationally from sheet music? I have so many questions and its confusing

Oh, the Berkley Method Vol 1. Had it for years, starts out hard, but you certainly learn to read with it. Only up to the 3rd or forth piece after 30 years or so, lol.

Ive been using Audacity for this very reason but like 30+ years ago it was a piece of hardware that I used to use that you could slow down the music but keep the pitch ...this was before personal computers were any good . Anyway cheers for the video although I have sussed this much out already .

Daniel Jones did not play this solo. It was session guitarist, Rex Goh! Got to interview him a few months, lovely guy and great to chat with. He came up with the solo improvised in one take (3/4 of the first take was used, and the last part was from another take). Darren Hayes' idea was to add nylon string guitar solos in some of the SG songs (like in Truly Madly Deeply as well!).

Hi Troy - Love your work, you've helped me with a few songs. You are the go to guy for Aussie music. In the spirit of cooperation, I have some minor suggestions. All of this is subjective, and I'm sure he plays it differently every time. While he definitely uses a drop D tuning, I agree with you as I'm not sure how necessary that is. My suggestions, during the intro - the 3rd time to D he does a D triad on the 5th fret followed by an A triad on the 5th fret, back to open Em 7 followed by a stretched chord 7th A String, 4th D String Open G, with a double open high E then up to the 10th fret D triad, 9th A triad, 7th G triad. He also goes to an F#m leading into the the chorus [Em, F#m G]. This live version link confirms some of this. He seems to vary the A7 A7sus4, Em Em 7 randomly.
