A collection of surfing films and snowboard trips I've shot over the years. The golf and wedding segments were all produced while I shot Event Videography around the Monterey Peninsula from 1992 - 2021. Steve Spaulding
Comments from the Peanut Gallery
A giant swell hit Indonesia in June 2015. I was at Desert Point helping Bill Heick film his documentary "Secrets of Desert Point". One of my favorite angles was from a little vantage point the boys called "The Peanut Gallery". Hence, the name of this clip. Featuring Paul Miller.

Big winters mean big swells and big rains. That combination occasionally creates magic conditions right next to the Santa Cruz Boardwalk. 35 years ago just such a situation occurred, and here's a glimpse of the fun some of the boys had that spring.

Back in the early days of thrusters, the boys were having a good time with the new found freedom of 3 fins. Bakes, The Riddler, Wave Killer and Willy were all in fine form - along with a few "Special Guests".

Hey Stephen! This is Steve with radio stations in the past I worked with in the Monterey Bay you advertised with. Beautiful photography as I remember. Those were the days. Happy to see you follow your dreams. Aloha from Kauai🌺
Mavaricks has NOTHING on Nazare!
Looked like leash wrapped around Mark and the board hitting his forehead unconscious as nobody paid attention to him after he wiped out. On the very next wave, Mike Parson ate it so hard that Brock Little on the outside had to straighten out. Heavy and chaotic. Bless Mark🙏🏼
This is big gay
Bet you sucked a lot of peckers to get there
This guy gives the best head when u surf at outside padang❤
Course you like queen too you little fairy boy Barney dooorknob
Too bad your arthritis has kicked in
Nice and focused. Good job Steve. Thanks for dropping it.
Great vid Stephen, glad I stumbled across it. My good mates old man Rex was one of the early pioneers at deserts in the mid 70s
I rented a car on Bali, taking the ferry to Lombok in 89’ and 91’ camping out around the point to the north four days each time. Both times Paul, Nick, and Chris were setup in front of the break. Honestly, it was too primitive, you had to bring your own food and basically sleep on the ground. I found Lakey Peak back in 87 and preferred to stay in more comfort, so spent most of my two month trips there.
Downfall of civilization this is what brought us to sending billions to Ukraine Nazis and normalizing pedophelia and worshipping demonic life

Great footage brother. Inspirational surfing by the boys! So awesome. Positive vibrations. :0)
Thanks for making this, and posting it. Sadly, to me, this is just a reminder of how good the stretch from 3rd point to kiddee bowl, USED TO BE... Some unfortunate decisions were made, to move the Rivermouth towards 1st point, back in the 1990's - and the surf, up top, hasn't been the same, since. Finally someone opened it up in the right place, this winter, and we had a big deluge, shortly thereafter. I'm hoping that we'll see a return to the kind of form pictured here, and better, before too long.
Was that the first death at Maverick’s? Many say it was a freak accident, because that was just a medium size wave at Mavericks, maybe even a little smaller, and he had definitely ridden bigger waves. Some also said it could of been because he was tired from jet lag and was not used to cold water.
Seeing professionally produced work like this really contrasts with the mountain of mediocrity out there now.
I lived right there in 82-83. My grades got terrible :) Thanks so much for shooting this, and posting it.
Classic footage. Thanks👍🏻💪🏻👏🏼🥰
Nice recap. What chair is that in the video, please? Thanks
Nice tribute, 🙏🏼 He made everyone laugh, I still have one of his business cards. I once asked, is there a trail map? Yeah Oz replied, “it’s in my head…”
Mark Foo was one of the greatest surfers to ever catch a wave.
I was surfing a nearby cove that day, and could actually see Mav's breaking from my lineup. It was not the biggest day, probably a freak accident. Mark Foo was a real big wave rider.
Always liked Mark. It was very sad.
RIP legend
The ruf is on fire!

RIP Mark see you on the other side! 🤙
🤙🏽👑
I surfed it about early '93 and got my ass handed to me... I wasn't surprised to hear about his death the next year.... RIP Foo - you were a charger!
i don't know how i got here. i don't surf but i skated for the better half of the last 20 years, so i can definitely respect the work these boys put in. rest in peace to a legend. i went and watched some of his footage. Mark had some major steez.
I was riding whitewater at rivermouth when I was 10 years old in 1983 winter after the big storm. I remember seeing the best day ever there 6-8 foot perfect offshore winds and perfect peak after perfect peak with perfect left and right right walls and barrels. Like 50 dudes on it all screaming at the perfection. It was seriously like a dream absolutely perfect. I've surfed many epic days at rivermouth but none were even close to these day back in winter 83. It was 4 in the afternoon and the water was clean and dark blue barrels after barrels.
fucking kook broadcast.
Foo would go.
Scary! Such cool footage tho
“If you want to surf the ultimate wave, you better be willing to pay the ultimate price”. Mark Foo.....He knew what he was doing.....
Damn, hard to believe this was 27 years ago. I wasnt even born yet.
Years ago, I believe I read a similar story. During one of the early Ironman competitions (triathlon on Oahu), a swimmer was attacked by a wild boar in the middle of the swimming leg. If such a story existed, I probably read about it in a Sports Illustrated article (mid 1980s ??).
Mark Foo rode waves that were way more knarly and sketchy than this particular day at mavericks, not saying that this wave isn't dangerous or big, but I followed Mark and have alot of respect for him.The way the news crew made it sound just doesn't fit ,if you go on TV that millions watch then in my opinion you should at least know a little bit about what they report. Just my opinion though..R.I.P Mark.. "A LEGEND NEVER TO BE FORGOTTEN "
Well said sir my thoughts precisely written! 👍
I don't think so. Mavericks are up there with Stern, the Right, and other extremely dangerous waves to surf. And clearly, the Mavericks were in fact more than gnarly enough for him that day. RIP
Fish Foo..... How long can you tread water?
Where is this place exactly? How do I get there from boardwalk?
Rest In Peace mark he’s a legend
All im gonna say is these idiots back then had no clue how to wipe out. What moron dives straight down
