How to Backcountry Ski in Bend Oregon
Why am I hearing about heli skiing in BC? Lol
North fork is AMAZING and it's a straight shot to the falls from on skyliners. Everyone who visits bend should hike or ride North fork if they can
If i remember i will be applying this November (expired) EMTB outta southern cali and grew up racing moto at all the west coast tracks. Would love to help out the team!
"roads are smooth" hahhahahahahahahahahaha nut uhh, roads suck, frost heave cracks every 10 yards.
Is there a trail from bend to Redmond?
If you use the app TrailForks you can see all the trails in the area for mtbing
How to? Simply don’t waste your time riding in Oregon. So flat you’ll think you’re skiing in Michigan
Easy! They both Suck! Unless you love riding the flattest of terrain available anywhere in the west! Bachelor isn’t even a mountain. It’s a butte that the resort petitioned the USGS for a name change because skiers knew a place called Bachelor Butte (origin name) would be flat as hell. Oregon is the flattest and worst skiing out of every western state. Don’t ever waste your time and money skiing in the flattest state on the left coast. Go to WA or any other state west of the Rockies for real skiing. Yeah, I live in bend but I travel to ski actual Mountiains! Not flat ass round buttes!
At least the rest of us don’t have to deal with your bullshit attitude while we’re having fun on our crappy “butte”.
If you get selected for the academy and make it through is a paid job or are there only volunteers?
Great question. Deschutes SAR is volunteer only.
Thank you, do you know if there are any academy’s in Oregon that pay you for search and rescue work to start a career out of it ?
I don’t know the answer to that but all official SAR operations are run out of the county Sheriff offices, so that would be the place to check for big counties in Oregon.
Interesante video..
I had the best ski run of my life on the front side! The powder turns were perfect!
very nice video!
Thank you very much!
I’m moving to Bend this coming September. For sure this will be my first route.
Nice! Welcome to Bend Dwayne.
Cool channel! Subbed!
Thanks Z2N! We are going to put out a bunch of new content in the next few months, so stay tuned!
@@thebend8788 10-4 on that!
I freaking love your van!
Awesome to meet you guys and excited to see what happens on the channel!
@@thebend8788 Thanks for appearing in our video! Your kids are great!
Me gustaría saber el paso a paso pero no tiene subtítulos el vídeo gracias por compartir Saludos desde Argentina.
Use a Sawzall sir with metal blade lol
Hey, how about a battery powered hacksaw ( sawzall)? Come on guys, power up!!!
Spot on Mark. There are so many things we could have done better on our first pallet bar build. Impatience hasn’t burned us too bad yet so we often go for the ready, fire, aim approach. You will see that in many of our videos in fact. Thanks for watching!
Says “ can avalanche “ at the same moment a dude is side scraping and pushing snow around in the clip lol
"This bowl can avalanche!" Proceeds to skin right up the middle of it and have multiple people on the slope at once, including uphill and downhill traffic.
Critical to call out, Bryce. Avalanche safety is nothing to be lax about. Of course the magic of film will never capture the hours all of us who go into the backcountry spend researching snow conditions, avvy reports, digging snow pits and assessing layers. Everyone who goes out should take an avalanche safety course to learn more about the art and science of the trade. Thanks for the callout.
@@thebend8788 One of the main points of avalanche courses is that you cannot 100% predict what is happening in the snowpack from observations such as reports, pits etc. The snowpack is outside of your control. The one thing you can control is terrain, and you still choose to commit to the most exposed ascent on the mountain, leaving both of you vulnerable for the entire ascent. My main reason for calling you out is that you are promoting yourself as a knowledgeable backcountry traveller who makes safety oriented decisions, and the decision showcased here using the absolute worst terrain management practices is now shown as a positive one because you made it back home to make the video, when in reality you just got lucky with no incidents. Beyond the egregious disregard for risk management, cutting a skin track right through the middle of prime skiing terrain is also a huge breach of etiquette.
Quick easy access to many projects with woodglut plans.
That trail looks amazing! Central Oregon is so fantastic. I had a framed poster of Bachelor on my wall growing up in Eugene.
Indeed Andy! Look out for more trail highlights in Bend and let us know if you have any requests.
Mitchell smells great.
Um, you mistakenly placed Columbus, OH at Cedar Rapids, Iowa...
Indeed Jacob! The mapping gave us fits on this video. Still looking for a go-to and easy way to build map journeys. But watch part 2 of the van video for (hopefully) and improvement.
Loved it! Sweet van!
Right on Adam! We didn’t know what we were missing until now.
Awesome work! All the way from NZ
Shout out to NZ! Welcome to The Bend!
When all lifts are turning the entire mountain of Mt. Bachelor is accessible. Glorious!
Nice! Is that a DJI drone?
That’s it TBLG. DJI Air 2s with slightly chipped propellers from our 12 hour Drone Challenge video. Performed like a champ.

What colour is that stain?
Great question! I’m going to go with standard Dark Walnut.
Thanks. I will put it on my bucket list of Oregon to do trails. Just checked off Post Canyon, Hood River.
Awesome! The trails are a bit dusty this time of year so watch out for disappearing berms. Go get it and thanks for watching.
Beautiful drone footage!
Best episode!!
Thanks Adam!
Cool and well done video. Good job you people! Alohas from Maui!
Aloha from Bend, Fernando. Lots of Hawaiians in Bend. Maybe we should do a show on that.
2:25 why the heck have you got your fingers that close, madman! lol. I only pull and keep my hands away on the first 5 draws of the saw, if that bounced could get a nasty cut or worse no?
That’s what I’m saying!! Bark was unsupervised for that part of the build. Our new motto: Don’t cut your fingers off.
@@thebend8788 fair enough, great video btw! ❤
This is great. This recent paste season I had my worst ski trip ever at Mt Bachelor. The non stop windy days cut the skiing day in half, but I'm ok with Mother Nature will. The most concerning and really was human factor, disgusting human behavior! The way that drivers acting when we knew that will have to stop at the entrance to check inn! That guy guy/girl doing 80 mph, was nothing but 2 cars ahead of me and the entrance of MTB!!!!! Crowd acting stupid at the lift lines!............I'm glad to watch this video and known that still respectful and peacefully skiing can be done near by Bend!
What a great comment Fernando! As Bend grows it will be incredibly important to for those in the Bend community, as well as those visiting, to treat each other with patience and respect. I remember the first summer I arrived in Bend and saw a woman on the sidewalk gently reminding a visitor in a car that we don't really honk here in Bend. Community culture is a luxury, and a choice each of us will have to make every day to keep Bend cool.
That's cool, I have flown my drone a couple of times around bend. I use my drones half for search and rescue with OSP and half of the time working with ODF fire for fire monitoring. Also a drone can be aerial, ground, sea, or space. My submersible drone has been used for a couple of recovery missions in Oregon over the past couple of years.
Very good call on out the land, sea, space aspect of drones. Maybe a follow up drone video is in order.
Really liked your video. I’m visiting Bend right now. I’d like to fly my drone, but I’m a bit hesitant. I don’t want to upset anyone. I’m just flying recreational, videos and photos are just for myself. I’m flying a DJI mini 2. It’s been hard to find a good spot (at least for me) as I’m not familiar with the area. Do you have some good take off spots? Thank you.
Welcome to Bend, Relentless, and thanks for being so considerate. The good news is you are flying a micro drone (<250g) which is safer around people. The bad news is Bend is crowded this time of year! We try to fly early mornings or late evenings, or off-season times of the year, to avoid people. There are also a number of large parks that allow you to get to the recommended 122 meter altitude without obstruction (Harmon Park, the Pavilion lawn, Discovery Park). Enjoy your visit and thank you for being cool to those around you.
Great video...but building household stuff from pallets? Neah. Don't they use arsenic to kill bugs in them? Use 'em for ramps / features instead.
This is a really good point and worth investigating before working with a pallet. Arsenic use should have been stopped in the early 2000s so newer pallets are better, but the only sure way to know is to check the stamp (see link below). HT (heat treated) is ok, MB (Methyl Bromide) is not. Either way, we agree - use these pallet bars outside! Thanks for calling this out M Modtomic. earth911.com/health/how-to-safely-use-pallet-wood/
You're so cute and adventurous! Are you married? ;) Portland girl here, but hoping to move to Bend!
Views make the MTB climbs worth it!!! Awesome stuff man 🤘🏻 From Klamath Falls... I’ll be riding Bend this summer for sure.
Thanks Jared. Glad to have you as part of The Bend crew. Let us know if you want to see any other trails highlighted!
Great video! How did you add in the backing so that you couldn't see through?
Added some 1/4 inch dark particle board on backside. Easy to cut and very inexpensive.
this video blew up!
Thanks Jude. Keep spreading the word.
You can take out the valve core when pumping it up to make setting the bead easier (less flow restriction)
Outstanding new hack! I didn't think I'd get the bead to set with a hand pump and I'm guessing I got lucky. Taking the valve core out makes way more sense for future chances of success. Thanks Adam!
What an awesome new channel. Glad to have found it. Love the diversity of content!

We have a winner! What gave it away for you?
I live across the street ;-) Great vids, keep em coming. I saw curling was on the docket, killer! Any way you can do hockey(Great league at Inn at 7th) or maybe some pond hockey? Or The Gambler 500 is coming in summer for more car stuff. Cheers
@@NeonLeon9 Hope we didn't wake you up with that 7am film set. There were drones and revving Audi's, but I think we were drowned out by the snow removal trucks. Hockey and Gambler 500?!? Now those are some great ideas. Curling is on the way for sure. Keep an eye out.
Love the video, if only it snowed in California :)
Thanks Colin. Enjoy the surfing! You had snow for 18 years of your life.
I put screws in my shoes in anticipation of the storm this past week, ran the same trail what I can only assume is the same day you guys did and it worked great!
I have to admit Matt, I was blown away by how well this worked. I heard about the trick a few years ago but then thought "do I really need to run that badly in the winter?" The answer was no until we did this video, but I'm glad we tried it! James
Loving these videos guys!!
