Episode 9: Getting Nerdy About Movies with Fred
oooh, Clint Eastwood, 1986 Heartbreak Ridge Good movie 🎬
Yeah, boys, here comes _The Porkchop Express!!!_
Thanks Nacho, that was a very fun movie to talk about.
The checks in the mail
Not often you see Bernard Bresslaw in a serious role. I'm just so used to him in the _Carry On_ movies.
I know they’re a big part of British comedy history, but I’ve never actually watched a Carry On movie
@WizardsWarpDrives-g7j Ooh, I wonder how they'd be regarded by virgin eyes (ooer missus). I believe Benny Hill still works well.
I could not get on with _Krull._ _Hawk the Slayer_ was more my thing. I should watch both again.
Totally fair! Hawk the Slayer has that classic, campy charm. A double feature sounds like a great idea
I remember my mum taking me to this movie because she had heard that its working title was 'Dungeons and Dragons'. She thought the movie was awful and apologised to me. I thought it was amazing because I was 12 or 13. It really influenced my D&D games at the time.
Honestly, that’s what makes it great! It’s like watching someone’s chaotic D&D campaign come to life, plot holes and all
Thanks for having me on the channel. Krull is the movie I wanted to be great and love. Still a re-edit could make a huge difference.
literaly cannot listen to this at les than 1.5x speed, at least you'l get veiw here and on podcast...
It's a slow pace in this podcast, because it's not heavily planned out.
@@sirloin869 thanks Is that because of our accents?
Thanks again for having me, I really appreciated the opportunity to sit down and chat!
Captured dancing owlbear, sweet 😎
Right?! It’s like finding a shiny Pokémon but it will straight up kill you!
@WizardsWarpDrives-g7j _Bite yer arm off, man!!_
44:40 🐶💧
LOL, I forgot to edit it out. I was tired last night
I wonder about the names of roleplayer's children. Are there kids out there called Tiamat?
Going to work _after_ 6½ hours of DMing? _Dude..._
My body was rolling straight nat 1s-next time, I’m saying no.
Khan succeeds mainly because it's not a Star Trek movie. It's Horatio Hornblower with a Trek coat of paint. It's also a good tale. Most future Trek fails because while they attempt a space action flick they bungle the aesthetic. Abrams Trek being a particularly egarious offender.
Yes! Wrath of Khan is basically Horatio Hornblower, but with phasers and space mullets.
Thanks for having me on the channel, was a hoot.
I really wish I didn't miss this livestream. I love this movie because of its slow burn A-story Throughline. This was deliberate because it uses a classic dramatic irony structure. The audience knows what's going on and it creates a wicked tension as soon as Khan shows up and captures Chekov and Terrell and the mystery is slowly revealed to Kirk et all.
You know how people created a single cut of the three Hobbit movies and another for the three Star Wars Prequels? I wonder if ST:TMP could be cut down at all, maybe to something like a TV show's 47 minutes or so.
@@jasperak7076 ST THP: a great episode made into a movie ST TWOK: a great movie made into an episode
I has been.
The canonical Half-Vulcan/Half-Romulan was Valeris played by Kim Cattrall in ST6 The Undiscovered Country. Saavik's Romulan background was only explored in non-canonical stories. EDIT: Posted this before you covered in the show.
In the UK, we have insects called earwigs. Though harmless, the similarities are too much 😱
That scene still triggers me
Where does Capt. Kirk get his cloaks from? _Ricardo's Mantle Barn._
Pretty shit idea for him as spokesman though. Ricardo should never cover up a chest like that. He really should stick to selling fantasies. Although I could see (hear) him selling leather...
@jasperak7076 mmm, leather
oooh, I'm listening on the telly, it sounds like radio 📻
Sorry, this is a extremely low budget production.
@HowtoRPG No man, it's a low-budget telly 📺
The GREATEST Star Trek movie 🖖
I do have a soft spot for the J.J. Abrams one
Thanks Nacho and Dan. The phase at the end. lol.
@@HowtoRPG yeah, still workshopping my outro, sometimes it’s better to ask forgiveness than permission
2:50 🤣😂🤣 no comment 😅
This was a great listen, well done everyone! I'll be looking forward to diving deeper into Shadowdark this year. ;-)
Thanks, Wally, really appreciate the support!
Awesome. I have made three classes and three ancestry's with AJ and Derp today.
Okay. I thought I'd left a comment on this vid, and somehow, it appeared under a jazz fusion video instead. I suspect alcohol was involved, but the jazz artist liked it anyway 😅
Now where did I leave that comment? We've all been there
Thanks Nacho for having me on the channel and the topic. 😊
@@HowtoRPG Considering I only read the quick-start rules the night before, I was worried I wouldn’t have much to contribute, but it goes to show how intuitive and easy this system is.
2½ hours of fine chat 😊
For a rules-light system, a lot to unpack
I was lucky enough to be in the Kickstarter for this. It's a beautiful book. Itching to try it out.
Nice, ordered my copy yesterday
Strap in, strap on & get funky 😁
_Feed the Beast of Argh !!_
We started early, curried turkey on Xmas eve 🦃
Hope you had a good one!
@WizardsWarpDrives-g7j Ditto 😊 🍺
Great video and a lot of interesting points, especially with examples!
Thanks a lot! Glad you enjoyed it and found the examples helpful. Appreciate you watching!
Tracking ammo and rations is the only way to play! I think the players should have to roll daily to see if their bread and / or cheese molds... and have penalties if they eat it!
Con saves everytime they take a short/long rest

_Time is an illusion, so are pants_ 😊
I'm glad that we're all, at least mostly, under the collective hallucination that everyone is wearing pants. :)
_mmm, gravy_ 😅
Dinner & a show
1:13:03 _The Kurgan Rides Again_
A Lobo movie? That'd be cancelled before it even gets filmed 😅
Jason Momoa was born to play Lobo
@WizardsWarpDrives-g7j yeees
Sorry I could not make it.
@@HowtoRPG u were missed

Hi 🐶
Scanners + Michael Ironside = 😎
Need to revisit
Gremlins is a disturbed little movie. 1984 was an amazing year for cinema. Old like to see your take on The Last Starfighter where a boy gets press-ganged into the Space Foreign Legion.
I'll add it to our list
Thanks for having me on the channel.
Paper terrain & minis are great with paper or cardstock. Very cheap. I use _Printable Heroes._
Because DMs are gits 😊
