Regiontog 471 Trondheim - Bodø between Valnesfjord and Oteråga. The train is hauled by a Di 4 locomotive and includes a generator car (which is unusual at this time of year, as the locomotives do provide head-end power; generator cars are more common during winter, presumably to have a redundant power supply).

    The Zürich HB webcam seems to fit well Radio Swiss Classic like music. A number of very popular Venice webcams have classical music for a background sound. Much of classical music compositions are public domain now. Many high quality interpretations can be free too. I noticed that Radio Swiss Classic has at least an open archives policy.

      Hallo Mike, ich verwende eine Lupus Electronics LE221. Dazu ein Intel NUC mit Ubuntu und ffmpeg um den Stream dann an RUclips zu senden; dabei muss ffmpeg den kaputten Audio-Stream der Kamera entfernen und durch einen stummen Stream ersetzen, und den Stream einmal pro Stunde neu starten, sonst bricht RUclips irgendwann den Stream ab. Wenn dich da Details interessieren müsste ich mal die systemd-Unit mit dem ffmpeg-Befehl raus suchen, habe auf das System gerade keinen Zugriff.

    A diamond crossing would have sufficed instead of this fancy equipment

    • @DavidCurrey4
      @DavidCurrey4 5 лет назад

      Diamond crossings are a source of intense maintenance. The gaps in the rails enable the ends of the rail to wear, which in turn causes the gaps to become more severe. The jolt of locomotives and cars going across causes wear on that equipment as well. The crossing track for the cane railroad has very light railway equipment, and so much less wear on this type of crossing. Since the mainline railroad has no rail gaps, there is no wear and tear on its track nor on its equipment.

    • @fmnut
      @fmnut 4 года назад

      @@DavidCurrey4 All true. But also, the use of the bridge instead of a diamond eliminates the 40 KPH (25 MPH) speed restriction allowing passenger trains to maintain track speed. Farther north, where trains aren't as frequent, standard diamonds are still in use and have been renewed in kind rather than with this more expensive setup. They are, however, flange bearing diamonds which reduce the rail end batter and maintenance issues you mention.

    Thanks for filming this! This is awesome! It's odd that the one side seems to move immediately and smoothly, and the other side doesn't. It looks like it could be due for a spot of maintenance.

    • @CraigTrader
      @CraigTrader 4 года назад

      It lifts smoothly enough; I think it's designed so that the left-hand side has to be down before the right-hand side, and so its pausing in its descent.

      yeh thats a diamond crossing we have one of those in the bottom yard at millaquin mill for the transloader and the river line

    • @jovetj
      @jovetj 7 лет назад

      Those are the most common solution, but they are impractical for several reasons. The main reason is there have to be gaps in all four rails for the flanges of the wheels of the other direction to pass. Those gaps take a serious beating when trains roll over them. They're loud, require a lot of maintenance, and trains must slow down for them.

  • @FatMattInAHat
    @FatMattInAHat 8 лет назад

    whats the point of that? railways tracks can cross each other without the need for that

    • @shedman1844
      @shedman1844 8 лет назад

      It allows the seasonal sugarcane trains to cross the government mainline track. It's got a request signal operation where the sugartrain crew have to contact the mainline railway controller and request the drawbridge to be operated by them. The mainline controller won't operate the draawbridge if there is a mainine train due or nearby. This system works very well and is very well controlled.

    • @DavidCurrey4
      @DavidCurrey4 5 лет назад

      Diamond crossings are a source of intense maintenance. The gaps in the rails enable the ends of the rail to wear, which in turn causes the gaps to become more severe. Because of the gaps in the rail, much more steel is required to stabilize the track. There is a larger chance for broken rail in a diamond crossing, which can cause derailments and much more damage than the cost of the crossing. The jolt of locomotives and cars going across causes wear on the equipment as well. The crossing track for the cane railroad has very light railway equipment, and so much less wear on this type of crossing. Since the mainline railroad has no rail gaps, there is no wear and tear on its track nor on its equipment. This type of crossing saves money, lessens maintenance, and is safer.
