Ah, Amsterdam, where the first language has become English because of tourism. That's not a fair comparison. Just go to rural areas in the Netherlands and proficiëncy is a lot less. Being Dutch, I took 6 years of English classes, which included Shakespeare. But I only learned to speak the language properly when I got a temporary job in the US.

The sad thing is that 90% of TV series are broadcasted in English. And it is also considered modern not to use Dutch words for many machines, electronic devices etc. And at universities and colleges, English has often become the main language. Dutch people are not proud of their language and whenever possible, English words and terms are used. It is actually pure language poverty.

Because speaking Dutch is difficult. I know up to a level 2, but it has taken me 10 years.

Their standard is rather low for Dutch..

Dutch, you can go to Belgium, South Africa, and Namibia, and the Dutch Islands in the Caribbean sea, and to Suriname, but that is it...about 25 million people speak Dutch all in all.

That is how I learned German, watching Startrek in German :)

We don't speak English that good, English is a corrupted old Dutch dialect mixed with French, so it is easy..

English tv-shows get dutch subs. Not dutch narration. Thats how we pick up the language too.

c'mon...there are so many similarities between Dutch and English that Dutch people can learn English with little effort compared to other nations (especially in comparison to people from outside of the Germanic language circle). I am really surprised that most of them seem not to notice that.

Dutch is the closest major language to English. The Frisian protolanguage of the Northern Netherlands is the closest; it's practically Old English.

chinese there's just too many dishes to name, japanese cos it's different from chinese cuisine. korean food i'll pass on though, the only thing i like is the BBQ but then again american BBQ is so much better... bigger meat, more flavour, and I can't turn down a set of baby back ribs.
