Oak Wilt Overview - Confirmation Methods & Mitigation Strategies
Hey my friend it is Austin here bringing you yet another video for pesticide applicators.
In this video, I wanted to touch base on Oak Wilt. The reason for this is because I recently was out in the field and had to collect and submit two samples for confirmation with Michigan State University to verify that the trees indeed did have Oak Wilt disease.
This is the first step in the Oak Wilt protocol here in Michigan and many other states.
I will be out at these sites again in the near future once we have confirmation and will likely take video and discuss mitigation tactics and strategies from the field.
I hope this video serves you.

    I live on roughly 20,000 sq ft; and I'm finding the label to be difficult.... At 1600sq ft of coverage per gallon does 12.5 gallons sound like the right amount of product (if i mix at 0.65oz)? And is a backpack fogger the preferred method of application? Your channel has been a great help regarding scion, i bought it and haven't had success yet. I think my rates mixtures were wrong, but i was concerned i bought a bad product.😅

    • @ElevateApplicate
      @ElevateApplicate Месяц назад

      I apply 1 gallon per 1,000sqft @.65 fl oz/gallon (or .65floz/1,000sqft). At 1,600sqft you are stretching the product. This all depends on what insect you are trying to control. Turf and ornamental rates are different than mosquito/tick/perimeter applications. If you were treating 1 gal/1,000sqft you would need 13oz of product per 20 gallons. I use a mist blower, skid sprayer, or backpack depending on the site.

    Going to give this a try this weekend. Small property ( .3 arces) but has a channel in the back which has been proven to be a great breeding ground. I normally use Surface-AC with Talstar-P, I'm assuming it's no different with Scion?

      What is surface-AC? A sticker? Also read the label. Scion requires a 25ft buffer from lakes, rivers, ponds, streams.

    At war with red wasps. Any tips on what to use? I have Cyzmic CS and Tekko. Truthfully I don’t think either one has done much to the wasps population.

      Can you identify the nest? If so, I believe there is a product called delta dust that you use a duster to spray it into the nest hole. If not, I'd recommend Scion.

    Do you use a surfactant? I’ve never used one for mosquitoes, but curious if it helps

    Im currently using this at my own home as a test and at the low rate of .33 per gallon i was able to get about 35 days. Going to try to the high rate with mgk nyguard IGR 12ML

      I have surpassed 75 days since my application and just now I can see some flying around where it's a nuisance. I also run high rate .65floz/gal and Nixlo IGR at 4ml/gal. Works amazing.

    salutations Austin, fellow michigan resident here in Jackson. I recently started at a lawn / landscape business near me as a mower 4 or so months ago its a small but well run company. 14 employees or so. I recently got the opportunity to get certified and get the a certified applicator position. I was able to pass Core, and combo test 3a 3b and 6. I was able to pass and I have been working out in the field with the owner getting some training. hes really nice! I had my first full day out on my own doing some fungicide applications on the fancy ride on cart! your videos helped greatly! I didnt do as well on the ornamental portion but still made it! thank you.

      Awesome to hear that you passed your exam, got your license, and are now implementing what you learned. Maybe we will run into each other at an event. I'll be teaching an in person class in August down in Dearborn for the Michigan Green Industry Association.

      Lots to unpack here. Properties? Standing water? Rain? What was treated? How much property do they have? Did a hatch occur? Was a sticker used? We have had callbacks that were completely unwarranted. I did an arm test for 30 minutes during peak activity and saw 3 mosquitoes in 30 minutes. They had a larger property and about a quarter acre pond as a breeding ground. Call out the call backs. Also, a hatch could have very well occurred after application. In this instance, I tell clients to wait a few days as the newly hatched mosquitoes will need time to come into contact with the insecticide.

    Does this apply to Duraflex ZC?

      This applies to most insecticides and fungicides. I'm not 100% familiar with that product, but if it's a synthetic pyrethroid it absolutely applies.

    So why do companies do quarterly pest control when their products wont last 90 days

    • @ElevateApplicate
      @ElevateApplicate 3 месяца назад

      That's a great question. My business brain says that is sales and marketing. Maybe you can't sell monthly or bi monthly but you can sell quarterly based on their budget. It also might be related to the insect issues they have.
